Men, you two, interpret this as "Wham, Bam, thank you, Ma'am." Women interpret this as soft, slow, sensual, love making. The way he says "When a whole lot of Decembers are showin' in your face Your auburn hair has faded and silver takes it's place You'll be just as lovely and I'll still be around And if I can I know that I'd still love to lay you down." That, gentlemen, tells a woman he really loves you, not just your looks. I am 62 and when my husband sings this song, it works on me every time...for over 30 years it never gets old.

Actually, from a woman’s perspective, at least this woman’s perspective, what starts out sounding like a crass, too direct approach ends up being one of the most romantic of songs. He is saying that he wants her and will continue to want her and find her attractive even as she gets older. And he does say he is going to say everything his woman wants to hear.

Conway is the original OG Smooth Talker! He tells you exactly how it is in all of his songs…. And yes, we (women) definitely appreciate it!! I’ve heard my dad say many times that Conway and Elvis were his go to and they always worked 😂😂

Girl, truth! I never heard Conway until I was close to 30. Ain’t no Phil Collins or Kenny g got anything on his voice. Conway is what wet dreams are made of for females. I hope that wasn’t too crass, I’m just trying to make a point without the appropriate words… Because I’ve been listening to Conway and have other matters on my mind. 😂

You guys are so cute when the subject of sex comes up and you go full-blown 14 year olds! As for how well that approach works for women, I can only speak for this one, and it depends: approached in a bar, 98 times out of a hundred the guy gets shot down. Alternatively, 100 guys using smarmy "lines" ALL get shot down. Now, leaving aside the first verse, the rest of the song, obviously being sung to his wife - yessir, that approach always works - and the longer the marriage the better it works. Every woman wants to believe her man still finds her physically desireable. Don't take my word for it, ask your wimmins.

Re: do we appreciate that approach from the start Guys, I have always perceived that song to be one from the aspect of being well into a relationship, and not a first time meeting kind of thing. In a long term relationship and/or marriage, hell yeah the approach is great -- to know we still turn our other half on, that he ain't bored with us, that time and aging hasn't diminished that, etc ... ::dreamy sigh:: Oh and I'm not so sure the bit about being in the kitchen, faded cotton gown, hair in curlers thing would be controversial even now... For me, it brings to mind a barely awake woman pouring herself a cup of coffee (or these days waiting on the single cup maker) Thank you for making my Monday morning shine brighter than it otherwise would have been.

I also didn't take this as his approach to seducing a woman he barely knows. I have always taken this as his continuing appreciation and love for his longtime wife/lover. He says she thinks she doesn't look her best in her faded nightgown and curlers in her hair, but he is saying he thinks she looks the best in her natural state, no make up, no fussy hairstyle, no designer clothes, she doesn't need those things to be beautiful.

Another beautiful song by Conway & Loretta is their duet "l still believe in waltzes." C & L were great together. Their chemistry was fire! Hope you listen to the duets they did. Oh l almost forgot. Conway wore his hair(same style)for many year. If l remember correctly he had to change it because it was ruining his hair. It was a big deal when he styles his hair differently. I asked my hubby if he'd put some lotion on my back. Jack Azz said no, he didn't like the feel of lotion on his hands. 3 hours later he asked if I wanted to have sex ( but blunter) .. I said no, you missed that ship a few hours ago. He said I was to subtle. < incert eye roll> I told him next time I'll come out with A B.O.B and Let him chose between the lotion or it.
