I remember when he passed away. I was at a friends house for the night and when we woke up in the morning her mom was playing Conway’s music and crying. We had no clue what was going on until her dad told us then the whole house was crying.
@jonpalmer726220 күн бұрын
He was almost cancelled in the 70s with the song You've Never Been This Far Before a lot of country stations refused to play it. This man in my opinion is the GOAT of country music. His drummer use to introduce him as the Best Friend a Song Ever Had.
@1145ontop21 күн бұрын
You're friendly drummer here again, the tempo didn't change, it was a key change which a lot of artist do but typically they change and go up a key but instead he goes down a key which is what makes it so unique!
@MrNiccholas20 күн бұрын
Coming from a musical background of singing mainly old hymns in church, I am very familiar with key changes in-between verses. I'd never thought about it, but you're right! I can't think of many (if any) examples of downward key changes with the exception of Bass singers and that's just so we can show off our low range!

One of his grandsons was singing this song in school. The teacher asked what he was singing and he said a Conway Tweety song, that's how a 5 year old says Twitty. He said Conway was his grandfather and the teacher didn't believe him, so she called his mom and told her what happened. She said the same thing and once again the teacher didn't believe her. Conway happened to be in town that week and took his grandson to school, and asked his grandson where his teacher was. He pointed at her and Conway walked over and said "hello darlin" and after that his grandson could sing whatever he wanted to.

He has the only number one song without a chorus. The Rose. Over 40 number one hits. Straight up legend! Don Williams and Gearge Straight are right behind him in my ears. P.S. Thanks to my momma, I had his last 8-track tape as a rock singer in all of his black leather on the cover.

ConwayTwitty was my aunt's neighbor here in Oklahoma and when my mom visited her during her pregnancy with me he "patted your butt" as my mom liked to tell me. So I grew up on his music as a kid in a family who listened almost exclusively to country music. When I was little, under the age od 10, we went to a diner that had a jukebox where I would, EVERY TIME, pick my songs and I'd Love To Lay You Down and his song Tight Fitting Jeans were my first and last picks to ne played when we went in to eat. And Hello Darlin' is awesome.
