It’s now official. A coroner has ruled that missing Sydney con woman Melissa Caddick is dead, although precisely how, where and when she died remains a mystery. What also remains is the misery of those who were duped out of millions of dollars of their savings by Caddick’s simple scam. She claimed to be a financial whizz, promising huge returns to investors. Instead, she spent their money on herself, purchasing designer dresses, custom-made jewellery and lavish overseas holidays.
Tom Steinfort has been reporting on the Caddick case for more than two years and this Sunday on 60 MINUTES reveals new vision he has obtained showing Melissa, her husband Anthony Koletti and her brother Adam Grimley on a night out before her disappearance. Steinfort’s latest investigation has also uncovered information which could provide a long-awaited glimmer of hope for Caddick’s many victims.

They know more but I think the husband was really hurt. And the son. Her son has got to be devastated. Anthony is a good man to continue raising the boy and giving his all to see that the boy receives a good education and grow up well. Of course the brother is in shock. I hope those 3 men stick close together and get through it. I believe Melissa is alive. She will never show her face again. Just hope she doesn’t manipulate things from whatever she is.

The parents should also get only 40-45% back of the money they paid, just like the rest of the investors. It's very sad for them because it was their own daughter who ripped them off, but they may have benefited from her scam in other ways while it was still going on.

I think they should not get that. No proof she passed at all. We are talking about a ruthless woman who could well be alive. More chance of that. Let's face it her so called partner didn't look too bothered during that investigation. And she made her money the dirty way so why should her parents have any of it. It's dirty money. Her victims come first. But I suppose they can have the left overs. I just think she is alive. A woman who cunning seems like a psychopath and that rich they can rearrange her whole face with cosmetic surgery and give themselves a new identity with ease.

@@jeanlaubenthal698 -- Hopefully the court will make sure that forensic accountants are involved, tracking purchases made by the daughter on behalf of the parents while she was running the scam. Her parents should relinquish the house to the creditors who should then sell the house and put it into the pool of money. because she conned them. From what i seen in another interview they wanted to be closer to her but didn't really know how to go around doing that. So she stepped in and said she would help with the sale of their house, the paper work and getting the new penthouse. I mean they are a lot older and well when your kid offers to help you don't really say no especially when she had the finance career. So at the end of the day they though it was theirs and didn't know melissa put her name down not theirs. You don't think you would ever be conned by your own family. I know when my grandma wanted to sell her house to us my mum took over all the paper work and stuff to help us both out. My mum never conned me and our house is in my husbands and my name.

@@user-allanH Yeah my Auntry had a husabnd for 25 years he was taking money from the company he had worked at and sending it overseas to some lady in Canada. Apparently it was a huge amount. Just when the company had started to investigate into where their money was going he fled the country and that morning when the cops knocked on my Aunties door and was asking her where he was she didn't know she thought he had gone on a work trip at the last second like he did most of the time. I remember her calling my mum and my mum going to her house she was in tears. She had no idea this whole time what he had been doing. they had a house together, everything was in both their names. The cops got him he had fled to canada where he had married another women and had a child with and apparently he had knocked her up before he came home and that was why he was sending money over to her. They found him 2 years later and brought him back to Australia now hes in Jail and will be for a very long time.

In the US, the law says that anyone who benefitted from a ponzi scheme needs to give the money back that they made. That would include any of the early investors who started seeing a return on their so called investment. Any money they were given due to that, would need to be returned. So all the law suits here wouldn't even be necessary as law enforcement would be the ones responsible for getting as much money back as possible.

So very true, my Dad’s own brother did this, I’m just thankful that they talked to me before they just handed over $10,000 to him. I made my parents look at their own home and reinvested back into the home, my grand parents his in laws his sister they all lost everything and yet he still managed to live in a lovely expensive home, my Aunt managed to keep her home just. She still talks to him but we have not spoken except at Grans funeral which I stood in for Dad as Mom was by this time to sick to travel. His brother was the youngest of them and Gran would not hear anything negative about him even when he had cleaned her out and left her to live in near poverty, she still covered for him and still gave him money. I was asked by him to do data entry before it all happened, I’m not good at maths but I am good at data entry, I thought I was going to get paid, even worked in the office for a month, as I was punching in the data, I started to question things, but not understanding it I let it slide, it was when I went to get paid and was asked if I could wait a week thats when I started to really look at what I was doing for him. I talked to my Mom because I was scared to upset Dad as it was his brother after all, it was about this time his brother wanted Dad to invest into the company. I copied everything in the office and sent it to the Tax office and left the company I got a real job that paid weekly not monthly or in this case never. I learned also never work for family. I felt bad for Dad but when he found out he said I did the right thing, I did what he taught me to be and that was to be honest. It caused such a rift in the family for such a long time, but when he was charged for embezzling the others came around and talked to Dad that was over 30 years ago, and my uncle still thinks he’s done nothing wrong, but even his own children do not give him money any more going by what my Aunt has said. Unless the parents can be proven accomplices, they should not be held responsible. Although I do believe one all 'available ' money has been recouped by the sale of all of Mallisa's property, the money should be split equally or calculated by the sum of their total loss (with the exception of it not exceeding their original total financial loss). It does make sense that the auditors should be held partly responsible (because they are policing it), they can also afford it being a multi-million dollar auditing company. But has previously mentioned, the only people at the moment gaining financially from this is all the clients lawyers. Whatever way you look at it, they all need to get their money back in full.

She would need someone with a medical background and a surgical facility to amputate her foot and the recovery would take a long time. You do know that in water that the feet are the first thing to detach from a body and Any Corner could look at her foot and ankle and know exactly how it detached and it was natural. Also the money she had hidden away was not hidden very well and please have been able to access most of it so she wouldn't really have anything to live off of

Someone killed her? That sounds like the consequences of her own actions. Her parents should be living in shame, not a penthouse. They raised a greedy, lying thief. She didn't get those traits from a cornflakes box now did she?

Why would someone who decides to commit su*c*de avoid cameras or was it just luck? When she left the house at 5:30 that morning not 1 camera on any of the neighbouring properties picked her up walking/jogging down the street. However no1 seen her leave the house, her son said he heard to front door shut so he assumed it was his mom going for her morning jog.Reports say that not all the area has CCTV cameras but an extensive portion does & still she was not seen. When she was classified as being just missing every $ she stole in every account she had was frozen,no1 could touch any of that $. Then 3 months later a foot shows up on a beach 500k away from Dover Heights near the area she used to go to as a child, no longer a missing person the $ is released. I think its possible she was m*rdered, after all this time the only remains found was that foot, just enough for her to go from being missing to being dead. The rest could be buried somewhere. As for parents getting 95% & the rest getting 30-40%, i think that bs. They shouldn't be treated any different than the rest of her victims. If they get more, than they r benefiting from their daughters crimes. The only way we give up our condo is if we get 950k? well thats extortion. Makes me think the apple didn't fall all that far from the tree.

Canadian here, tuning into this story for the first time. Firstly, I feel terrible for all of the victims, and really hope everyone gets what they deserve, positive and otherwise. Secondly, I don't think its foul play. Without knowing anything about this woman outside of this, ending her life would be yet another escape, and with herself in control of her outcome. Not having to face the victims, or the consequences of riches to prison. I doubt she would let herself go to jail. She may have had enough cash money to escape, but perhaps she never planned for that.

It would be interesting if 60 Minutes Australia, or some other news agency, could do a piece on how Melissa Caddick was as a child, young girl and young woman, growing up. Was she a bully? Attention seeker? Aspirational? Did she have a history of taking from other people and only keeping it for herself? I guess I'm asking for an in depth analysis of her behavior during her formative years. Lastly, I am an American. I really enjoy 60 Minutes Australia! I wish I could move there and live out my retirement years.

In my opinion she would of had food amputated at a top hospital in 5 star comfort then preserved. The amputated foot would then be made to look like not was not surgically removed and dumped where it would be found. It was found a substantial amount of time after she disappeared = very suspicious.
