This can’t be news to you but that’s a lot of work! You had such a variety of veg and potatoes, then the puddings. I’m sort of glad you said you were getting hot because that is what puts me off in the kitchen. I usually do a pot roast in a dutch oven or, like you, in my slow cooker. Then I’ll throw in potatoes and assorted veggies. I’ve never made a huge meal like you do. I’d do it in a tag team with 2 or 3 people though. Looked delicious!

Just a tip I've found I thought I'd share :) when part boiling the roast potatoes give them a shake in the drainer when they're done boiling and then add them back to the original pan and add a couple spoon fulls of flour, put the lid on and then just shake them backwards and forwards ect to coat them evenly. Then bake them in some hot olive oil/goose fat or whatever you usually use. They come out lovely xx
@WrightAtHome7 жыл бұрын
Hey Mrs Smith Yea im sure I said in the video I do part boil them on a special occasions like Christmas but for my normal Sunday roast I don’t bother with the extra effort lol 😂 also what’s even more tasty than flour is tossing the potatoes in stuffing mix that tasted so good but again that extra effort is saved for a special occasions thank you for watching and taking the time to comment to me :) xx
@mrssmithx8437 жыл бұрын
Yeah I just meant when you do part boil them that's a tip to try :) Not tried the stuffing mix before might have to try that some time :) cooking a roast now that's why I came across your video lol I usually watch your meals of the week grocery hauls ect but hadn't seen this one before xx

Never use olive oil other than in salads and drizzling over things. Olive oil produces carcinogens when heated (as in frying and roasting). It spoils its flavour too. I use rapeseed oil (which is grown and produced in the U.K.) or goose fat.

I had just got married and still have it some where. So that's my advice write down the meal your having and try to stick to the timings it will soon become automatic. Like Helen does clear your workspace, prep ahead, clean and clear as you go. it's what all professional chefs and cooks do. Hi Helen It has been quite hot in the uk phew I'm not good with hot weather. Like you I still like my Traditional Sunday roast even in high temperatures lol filling boys up especially my grown up ones Hollow legs eh! Mine work out and do lots of sport so need lots. Barbecues and such don't seem to fill them for long. I did my beef in the slow cooker this week as well to keep the kitchen cool it does make it delicious but it shreds and hard to carve. Cooler days I rub with oil whack mine in the oven 20mins for every 450g plus 20 take out of the oven cover and rest 20mins. It carves into slices easier when rested. I may fish out my halogen oven to cook the roast if it's keeps this hot. Great video I felt I was standing there in your kitchen with you. I would need jobs to do though as a can't stand idle lol

What's the obsession with washing your meat and veg? None of it is necessary especially the veg you had just peeled. I am 72 and healthy despite never doing all that. One thing I would do is keep all the good veggie stalks that you cut off and Chuck away and cook them together to make a vitamin rich veggie stock which I can use to make soup or even for the gravy next week.

Hey Susie you know I've had the jug so long the measurements have worn off it's a pirex jug... I just googled its one litre.. I would use 4 table spoons an add hot water to the thickness you like but it depends how much gravy you like an you could always frezze it I've done that before because honestly those beef juices in that gravy makes it so tasty you could use it in a beef stew at a later date :)

Hey gurl! Was watching while i was eating lunch. Just curious, have you ever used Guinness in your braised beef? Its so yummy. Also one trick i use to wash veggies, if cut em, and put them in a plastic container/ tupperware with lid, add water and some vinegar and shake it about, then do 1-2 more rinses with plain water, I find that it uses less water and shaking it in a closed container seems to give them a proper washing. Works with fruit too. For smaller items like a bunch of herbs i have even just put them in a drinking glass, close the top with one hand and give it a good shake and rinse. Haha the things we do :) You are great company even if its just videos.

Hi Helen : ) I’ve got a quick question on times for a larger piece of Beef cooked in the slow cooker. Your original slow cooker recipe using Aldi beef was what finally taught me how to do Roast beef as I’d always done it in the oven and it was awful, so thank you for this. However I bought a huge piece of beef for part of our Xmas lunch, it’s double the normal size you use, so what I’m actually asking is how long should I cook it for? Longer than the 5 1/2 hrs I normally do? Have you ever cooked a larger piece in your slow cooker?? Sorry for million questions xxx

Hey Katie Hun aww I love hearing feedback like this I know right bees tastes like a old leather boot in the oven haha I would up the time your better off cooking it earlier and then puting it on keep warm till your ready to eat it than the other way where it's not ready on time I'd up it to 7/8 hours you can always test it by puting a knife through it :) xx

Wright At Home Yeah, to be fair it just adds to the washing up. Going to do exactly what you did and see what happens. Still got the feeling it won't come out as nice as yours though.

No need. Salt in the gravy granules and in the margarine & cheese. I never salt as it's in everything nowadays. Drives me bananas when people salt n pepper before tasting their food, it's just a habit.

THE SEASONINGS

Why the capitals? Why spread over two comments? A traditional English roast isn't cooked with seasoning but of course any recipe can be adapted to suit you! Here's a video link to my typical week of family meals I use seasoning a lot in the right meals they are suited to (in my opinion the taste of food is obviously a personal choice!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/el7CnXaboap_aJo

Hey Tiffany I do season foods Hun but not my Sunday roast traditionally it's not a seasoned dinner but if I'm cooking Italian or Caribbean etc type food I'll definitely season them I even season my salads:)

but you didn't season any of the food ):

Hey Bunsy no with a Sunday roast I don't the type of dinner that it is a meat gravy and veg it's just got a classic taste salt and pepper are added by preference after the dinner is dished up I once went to a fancy pub they done a roast with a modern twist loads of herbs and spices it wasn't for my family it's just not what a British Sunday roast is to me guess it's personal preference:)
