Hi Jen, I love this series on Church Cookbook Recipes. I remember going to church dinners and chowders as a child with my aunt. Everything always was so delicious. There are no better cooks in the world. I love your videos and your family. You all seem so friendly and hospitable. We are also a family who loves camping. I can't wait to get started this spring. I've multiple Church cookbooks and I love them! These are real people who work and have families to feed when they get home. I've got my grandmother in laws from her Church and she passed it on to me and it has a recipe to make sweetened condensed milk that is really good! Also I pick up junior league cook books from used bookstores!

Your pinch cake story reminded me of something my daddy use to say. He'd ask us if we wanted a wish sandwich - some bread and you wish you had some meat. I think the pinch cake story is sweet, I can understand why she called it that! For us, it was that jello fluffy goop salad that we had a lot growing up going to a northern Baptist church. What I love about church potlucks is trying something new and getting all of the difference recipes that we liked so we could make them at home. Going to potlucks now, I try to make something different and not so commonly seen, that way it mixes things up a bit. For the giveaway, maybe a bigger gift card to some kind of online store or for one that is in just about every state, or a list of a few places and the winner picks whichever place they would like.

Buy a pre-made angel food cake next time & use the clear lid as a bowl for your trifle. You won't have to keep track of it at a potluck, etc. Just throw the 'bowl' away when it's all gone for easy clean up. 🙂
