BP was actually born with the pearl in the forehead, you can see it in the flashbacks. The “curse” is her losing her pearl and descending into the abyss, as stated from her loading screen. As for her friend, she might have stolen something from them, I believe

So what I could get from it, it was indeed Oyster Cookie's Ancestor whom hurt Black Pearl Cookie. Not only were they made fun off and unfortunately let it get to them, but they also possibly sold the BP's Pearl. And then, out of pain, BP stole something precious from someone else who once was her friend. I'll admit, this was a bit vague, but this is the jist I could pick up. Maybe one day they will go into detail with this lore. Other than that, I'm happy to have BP's Lore, even if it's just a little bit!

look at the lil oyster cookie, she's got that smirk already. so adorable! anyways, i'm kinda shaking rn? my theory is right in some places! also, BP lore! from what i can understand: 1. black pearl's pearl was influenced by those who possess it. as oyster the first (i'll call her ancestor that) sold the pearl, those who had it had a greedy heart. as a result, the pearl perhaps darkened and her personality changed. if she never gave it away easily, she would have stayed what she was. 2. black pearl was free to swim wherever she wanted until she was cursed and bound to the islands where we first meet her. she deleted another mermaid... dang, that's dark. 3. they meet in a cave! you know who else went into a cave to become a cookie? i'm guessing sorbet went to her when she still didn't do what she did. 4. as someone already said, BP never knew that oyster sold the pearl. they just wanted to see them again. it also seems that current oyster found that pearl because of a story from childhood and probably now knew that it had a truth to it. it wouldn't be a far-fetched statement to say that she probably connected that to the duskgloom sea, but who knows? what i want to know is how black pearl got that boat into her possession, now. perhaps a ship of house oyster's passed by the duskgloom sea. smth, like the emblem of the flag thingy (i forgor what's it called 💀) reminded her of oyster. maybe it's the mermaid on the front most part of the boat (i should probably learn what the parts of a boat are called). and, yeah! :D you think the mermaids live in sugarteara? idk anymore aaaaasa

Huh, so it was Oyster Cookie's ancestor who doomed Black Pearl Cookie to become who she is along with keeping the ship in question protected at all costs in the Duskgloom Sea story (which makes me curious if Oyster Cookie actually wanted Captain Caviar Cookie to find the lost ship and return it to her to see if the stories were indeed true or not). She only became cruel and evil because of Oyster Cookie's ancestor being in poverty and needing plenty of gold to survive along with the other cookies being rude to her one and only beautiful friend

Now with the current update, I'm scared of the emotional wreckage that's bound to happen on part 2 of the story, god I hope the mermaid she attacked was not her sister. But there's something strange, the bedtime story and special episode don't match well, especially in the beginning, as if a lot of crucial details were lost to time. What if lord oyster actually didn't lose himself to greed but instead his pearl was stolen by abalone cookie, which is why he was ashamed to see white pearl cookie again? That means it was never his fault and black pearl's grudge against cookies was unjustified

I'm rewatching this after the new event about black pearl's lore just dropped and I'm honestly so confused 😭. First the designs of the cookies are different than the ones in the recent event and the stories don't quite match up, if anybody can explain to me or give me some theories about this i would really appreciate it!

I gues the changes make sense. This here, was a fairy tale. A story "based" on what happened, but storys and their narrative change over time from beeing retold, and considering Caviar recogniced the oister-family ship in dusk gloom to be from an "old era", this story is probably verry old by now. It still holds some true information: Oistets ship sinking, the mermaid saving him, one of them beeing in love with the others eyes, the mermaid giving her pearl to oister. But the details are all wrong. What we are seeing in the event now, is what truly happened. Oisters ship didn't simply sink in a storm: it was a muteny that left him and his companions at the mercy of the sea with a boat that couldn't be steared. Pearl saved him, but he wasn't unconscious when she did. Oister was the one in love with Pearls eyes, not the other way around, and Pearl didn't gift him her jewel as payment for seeing him. Now that we know the fairy tail got all sorts of details wrong, the question that remains is: what truly happened? We know Oister aparantly broke a promise, that's why Pearl is upset. We learned as much in the dusk gloom sea event. But to what degree? And what lead him to break said promise to begin with? He doesn't really seem like someone who would just abandone her if he had a choice... On the same note, and this is more theory crafting on my side, there was a line that stock out to me when rewatching dusk gloom: "I didn't have any visitors since that little one came and wanted to be a cookie" (

Luckily I can still give BPC a squid/cookie husband and make Squib their love child because yes. Now about that.. other oyster cookie.. I assume BPC had this pearl she kept with her for good luck. And she gave it to that cookie. But that cookie wanted to sell the pearl and become rich. However she knew that would upset the mermaid. (BPC) Did she do it anyways? Yes. Why? Because greed is too powerful. In my headcanons this cookie is the reason BPC lost her spouse (a different cookie) and a friend she thought she could trust. As I mentioned earlier, I'm still smitten on Squid Ink being BPC's kid. So I made a squid/cookie husband for her to make that happen lol. If this cookie was in the BPC plotline, then I bet he got taken away by Sailors for the pearl on his back after the whole thing with that oyster cookie happened. That's like double oof there man. The only thing she has to remember her spouse would be Squid Ink cause they are her offspring with them. She kept the House Oyster ship intact to remember who ruined her life.

Extremely tiny Oyster is cuteness overload 🤍🦪 That aside, I feel the nanny isn't telling the whole story (or hasn't been told herself). Black Pearl's side of the story feels overgeneralised. She just sees a random pretty girl drowning, trusts her because she looks like an oyster then WILLINGLY gives out her pearl like some gift card even though doing that would curse her (something her in-game description says); then gets fully mad but not because she gave someone a pearl to keep as sign of their friendship and now the person's selling it, not like she just realised the consequences of giving out her pearl, but because she just wants to see that cute beautiful face once more. Also, at the end Black Pearl randomly decides to kill a mermaid even though her hatred is targeted towards cookies only (by what I've gathered from the "Legends of the Duskgloom Sea" event story). While in the girl's part we're still shown why she did things, she got the pearl from a mermaid then sold it (or at least thought about selling it, Oyster still has the pearl so maybe she didn't sell it at the end of the day) out of pressure from others and a desire for prestige. Knowing that it's being told from the girl's perspective; it's definitely possible she could've left out or added in some parts and twisted the story.

So from all the comments, videos, lore etc. What I’ve gathered is that oysters boat sunk and BP saved oyster and fell in love or something. BP gave the oyster her Pearl and lost hers cursing her to a black Pearl. Then oyster and bp became friends/lovers. However oyster becoming a poor cookie tempted them to sell the Pearl to live in luxury. Oyster stopped seeing BP and either kept the Pearl or sold it (probably sold it). However BP still loved oyster so she stole her friends(mermaid) Pearl because she couldn’t give her black one to oyster to become friends/lovers again. Unfortunately she was cursed even more for stealing a pearl. She was possibly exiled. She was then filled with rage for what oyster did to her sinking hundreds or thousands of ships. However she still cared for oyster so she kept a boat from the house of oysters. Overall this is a pretty sad story but I love it.

if i am wrong about this you all can point and laugh at me to your hearts' content but i'm calling it right now: the part of the story where black pearl steals something from her friend and that being the reason why she's cursed is complete and total bs made up by oyster's unnamed ancestor in a vain attempt to make themself look less like the bad guy in this situation. exhibit a, black pearl's loading screen: the quote on her loading screen literally says, "...when a mermaid loses her pearl, she will be cursed to descend into the lightless abyss." but that's obviously contradicted here with the whole "she was cursed because she stole something from her friend!!" narrative. tying into my next point, i find it easier to put my trust in the loading screen than someone like Mx. Unnamed Oyster Bigshot over here. exhibit b, common sense: to put it simply, how does the oyster family know that black pearl stole something from her friend? from the way the whole theft scene is set up, one would imagine that it takes place after black pearl left the beach and went back underwater to go sulk about what just happened. unless Mx. Bigshot was able to make enough money from our dear sweet black pearlie's pearl to be able to afford an entire underwater camera crew to spy on her via film, then i would like to call massive stinking bs here. also i would like to point out that this is literally a story that's been passed down through an extremely rich and shady family for literal generations, there's absolutely no way this is 100% accurate. exhibit c, unnamed mermaid friend themself: this one is very nitpicky and english major-y of me to bring up but i'm going to bring it up anyways because this is my comment and i can bring up whatever i want. during the "black pearl commits theft" scene, i noticed that there were question marks at the end of unnnamed mermaid friend's name. why would they put question marks there? are they unsure about unnamed mermaid friend's existence? idk man something about the fact that they felt the need to put question marks at the end of their name just doesn't sit right with me. anyways i have about 5 million more thoughts on this matter but i'm not in the mood to unpack them right now. thank you for coming to my ted talk and i hope you have a nice 2023 ^-^

I like this take actually. Not every narrators are actually reliable and believable, Oyster’s ancestor could be one of unreliable narrator who knows
