I love this! I noticed how you made some jumps and a tunnel out of popsicle sticks. I make a lot of houses out of popsicle sticks for my girls as stimulation to look around in when free ranging. :) P.S. I'm really excited for Christmas because I'm getting a lot of rat stuff :D

I'm actually planning a new series that will do just that! That being said, anything in particular you think I should go over first? I was thinking I'd do videos on each of the "easier" tricks first so I can reference them in the more complex trick videos, but I have a ton of "reading and video" tutorials so I can also always reference those until I get around to doing a voiceover.

These aren't rat tricks, it's human tricks. This video just shows a defenseless rat being manipulated by a superior human.

No, this video shows a rat and human communicating. There’s no way to force a rat to do any behavior, let alone something as complex as Cookie was doing, and as prey animals they will just shut down if they feel threatened by you or any activity. So when you see rats performing that’s because they enjoy it and want to work with you, plus of course they enjoy the rewards. All my rats have 24/7 free access to food and water and yet they still come over to ask me for training time when free ranging - they just enjoy it a ton, as do I, which is why we do it!

@@ShadowTheRat A human being being able to hold and train another creature is far more impressive than a creature learning trick routines. It just doesn't seem that way because we are human, and to us it's just an every day thing, so it seems normal to us.

​@@firstnamelastname-oy7es Ahh but that's where you are wrong - animals train us just as much as we train them, but because you aren't looking for it, you don't see it. Take for example a cat wanting food - they may wake up 5 minutes earlier each day and meow, getting us to feed them and essentially training us to wake up earlier and earlier to do this. Or take the example of rats - even as caged pets they can "train" us humans, and mine have taught most of my family to give them treats before allowing handling or touch. It takes two to tango as the saying goes and training is never a one way street - whenever you train an animal they are just as much training you as you are training them, and it is just a matter of perspective. So no, I wouldn't say us being able to train them is more impressive then them being able to learn to follow our cues because all that shows is that both sides are willing participants and willing to work together. Besides, training and being able to learn from one another is not so much a sign of intelligence as it is a sign of being social. Social animals like rats and yes even humans have a drive to work together and even a drive to work with other friendly species - this drive is what makes it so rewarding for me to work with rats, and what makes it so rewarding for rats to work with me as well. Yes there are other tings involved - I for example love seeing other humans get past their biases and see rats as more than a pest, and the rats for example enjoy getting special treats - but that social drive is what really makes training so fun and rewarding for us. That's not to say solitary animals can't learn, because of course they can, but the motivation and enjoyment come from very different places than with more social species. Anyways I'd say you have some biases of your own - just because people keep certain animals as pets doesn't make us better than them, heck ants often keep and breed aphids together and yet I've never seen anyone say ants are the superior species!
