I watched this video and loved how you went through each step. We caught a nice big burbot and heard of it being the poor man's lobster. We did exactly as you said and it turned out absolutely perfect. 👍

I like the fact that you used the whole filet instead of just the back strap.

they also use pollock for imitation lobster or crab in a process called surimi which also uses sugar and salt etc so maybe pollock can also be a poor mans lobster the same way you made it here, i would put the raw fish in a brine of salt ,sugar and lemon juice(helps remove the fishy smell and taste) and a bit of vinegar does the same then after a day i would remove the fish and cut it into chunks and boil them in the same brine
@LTOutdoors153 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea! I bet that would be excellent!

@@LTOutdoors15 give it a try,,hey maybe you can try with pike too who knows ,they do tend to have a somewhat rubbery or plastic like taste and texture that might absorb that kind of flavour from a brine too

Burbot get a bad rap. They are great fish. We have them here in Alaska and I used to catch them growing up in Minnesota but they call them eelpout. Walleye fisherman get mad when they catch burbot and act like they are a shit fish. They are great eating.
@LTOutdoors153 жыл бұрын
Dude I totally agree!! I dont understand, I mean when fisherman are out to catch fish. We should be happy with everything we catch, burbot are incredible and i hope people learn to appreciate that
@ARCSTREAMS3 жыл бұрын
seems to be an overlap in audio and video ,i would suggest also adding sugar to your brine it enhances to a whole new level, also maybe try skewering the chunks on the grill next time like swordfish if they will hold and not fall apart,mix in some herbs,spices and garlic and oil etc then skewer them like shish kabob
@ARCSTREAMS3 жыл бұрын
never had burbot looks good, but my catfish def taste like fried chicken too hehe ,did you use salted butter? maybe a lil lemon would be good with the butter and some herbs but id think they should be salty enough from the brine why did you add more salt to the pieces?

Great tips, but I've never caught or even tried burbot. They kinda look like a snakehead or them snakefishes
@LTOutdoors153 жыл бұрын
That's part of why I wanted to do a video on them. They're often mixed up with snakeheads which are a non native problem species. Burbot are native to our great lakes and definitely arent an issue. They catch them in Minnesota too. They're also known as ling ling, ling, and eelpout
@greglanders60483 жыл бұрын
@@LTOutdoors15 Cool, good to know, yeah I know them snakeheads aren't good, most people catch them and throw them on shore to die or get eaten by something.
