explained step by step. Today's recipe is Prawn With Lettuce Stem Stir Fry. You may have seen lettuce stem in Chinese and Asian Supermarkets. It's about 2 to 3 feet long and about 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide. The formal name of stem lettuce is called celtuce. Also called celery lettuce, asparagus lettuce, or Chinese lettuce. This stalk has a delicious nutty flavor. It can be eaten raw or cooked. Recipe is below:

PRAWN AND LETTUCE STEM STIR FRY 炒莴苣
1 celtuce lettuce stem sliced (1 1/2 to 2 cups)
1 tablespoon ginger sliced
1/2 cup celery sliced
1/2 cup onion sliced
3 to 4 tablespoons peanut oil (or other cookoing oil)
6 to 8 jumbo tiger prawns (or 12 to 15 smaller tiger prawns)
1 to 2 tablespoons regular soy sauce (light soy sauce)
1 teaspoon Maggi (optional)
1 to 2 tablespoons Chinese oyster sauce (or other sauces ie. hoisin sauce)
1 to 2 teasoon sesame oil
Cooking Method:
Preheat a wok or pan at medium to high heat. Add 3 tablespoons cooking. Then add ginger and stir fry briefly. Add tiger prawns and let sear 15 to 20 seconds each side. Add celery and onions and stir fry 1 minute or longer. Add sliced lettuce stem. (For more tender lettuce stem, boil up to 5 minutes before stir frying.
When desired tenderness is reach, add soy sauce, maggi sauce and Chinese oyster sauce. Do a final stir fry to mix in the sauces. Just before serving a few dashes of sesame oil to bring out the fragrance. If you like add 1 to 2 teaspoons of cooking oil to up the vegetables and the prawns. Serve on a nice plate. Enjoy!
