I cry with my soup too sometimes. Half-Korean, only child here, now 60 and the last of my family. Mama had made my favorites all my life so I never learned how to cook Korean. When suddenly she passed 20 years ago I fell apart in every way imaginable. Back then there were no cookbooks or recipes in the US. It has taken me many years trying to recreate her food. Now when I eat what I make, I can smell and hear my beloved mother, the memories are fresh and clear - never diminished. I only cry because I can’t touch her.

I think about this too and it also makes me sad. So, I’m trying to learn more about my culture so that I can try to pass it to the next generation 🇲🇽
