Hey Kenny... I remember as a kid my Dad and I would go Squirrel hunting. We would skin, and clean the Squirrels then go to my Grandma's house. She would fry the Squirrel then throw them in the oven. She would make milk gravy from the drippin's. fried eggs and homemade biscuits. Even though I grew up in Illinois my family was from the Ozarks Mountains of Missouri. True Hillbilly cooking still runs deep in my family. Thank you for a great video really took me back to a time when my Dad and Grandma was still here with us.

I've never eaten squirrel until today. A neighbor gave me 3 and I came across this video. I picked up some Old Bay seasoning and followed the recipe. I didn't have a thermometer, but I guesstimated (I fry chicken a lot), went with the long simmer, and everything has come out tender and tasty. I didn't have any thoughts beforehand that I may not like squirrel, and having eaten it, i'm actually very pleased with trying this meat. I'm glad that I came across this video. Thanks Ken.

Shouldn't need to ask this in a free society, wish I didn't need to, but is it legal to hunt on your own property with a pellet gun? (most of America doesn't allow firearm discharges in suburban areas of course) but with a pellet gun would it be legal?

They usually don't grill too well. Life or death, go for it, but trying to make an at home meal? They need to be parboiled or in the case of the video, flash fried before actually cookin. I may be mistaken, but the flash frying causes a crust which locks in the natural moisture of the meat. I personally don't like parboiling, but grilling will most likely make the meat tough.
@SouloDoloMusic

promod114 is right. As long as you parboil them first, it's just fine. Great with bbq sauce.

I've eaten squirrels twice in my life. I killed, cleaned, and cooked them myself both times, and I did not care for them either time. I just came from another video where they pan-fried a couple of squirrels in a cast iron skillet just plain except for salt and pepper, which looked delicious and now this video with pan fried squirrel that has a coating, and that looked delicious as well. I am now convinced I didn't know what the hell I was doing when cooking my own all those years ago.

Loved the video and made me quite hungry! I have not eat squirrel since I was a kid, but you have inspired me to try it again! I live in a cabin in the woods and they are everywhere. My dad and I used to hunt them all the time and Mama would fry them up. I cook for myself and have for some time, but you taught me something new. I never knew that corn starch would make such a great batter and I love old bay seasoning but had only used it for crabs and shrimp. I have all of Mama's old iron skillets and I am gonna break them out and try your recipie...which I think would be great for chicken also! Thanks a lot. I love your style! Oh...and thank you for your service!

Have five in brine waiting for this recipe tonight. It looks delicious! My 12-yr-old girl cleaned a couple with me yesterday for the first time, and she's looking forward to trying this as well. I thought she'd be grossed out, but instead she said it was just like science class. I said except you don't get to fry and eat the frog! Thanks for the recipe and your service, Kenny.

@@KVUSMC-KU4SMC I tried it out today and it was a hit. I did do it a little differently by pressure cooking the meat first then frying them the same way you did, just without simmering them in the oil. The kids loved it and so did I. Thank you again!

This was a great video. Every man's dream is to have his own kitchen cave right next to the welder ha ha.
