Wonderful review, Roger, touting the rods fabulous pluses and exposing it’s glaring weakness. I’m totally with you on the virtues of a comfortable foregrip on spinners, eg the Steez AGS 7’6” MML, and my Orochii XX Whipsnake. Happy to see a trend towards these grips, especially since I’m fishing now with 3 or 4 fingers in front of the reel stem most of the time, and, I’m fighting bigger fish on lighter tackle the older I get! BTW, your review of the Adrena 6’7” BFS casting rod has got me seriously considering canceling my Edge order and committing to the Adrena! I
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
Haha thanks Mike!! Yeah that "reversed" tapered foregrip is key on a spinning rod these days. The Adrena (and probably Zodias) BFS is more of a moving bait rod, and I would imagine any NFC blank from Edge would be more suited for single hook plastics like finesse jigs/tx rigs etc.

For anyone that is watching this video. Different people have different feelings about handles and grips. I have this rod, the handle to me is one of the best I have owned. I have used Poison Ultima, Glorious, Adrena, Evergeen etc..
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
That may be true but I don't see how a hard aluminum lock nut in front of the reel seat is more comfortable in hand than contoured cork or eva. Hands are soft, aluminum is hard :)
@Justin-zw1hx Жыл бұрын
Because the lock nut is on the tip of the handle, it's fart away from your fingers if you hold the rod like most people do, with real seat after the middle finger, and if I hold the rod with the ring finger in front of the real seat, my index finger falls right inside the groove of the lock nut, the groove is well contoured and very smooth, if fits my index finger like a glove. These are how I hold the rod, and I'm Asian, I don't have polar bear's huge fingers. Do you really think a mature company like Shimano will design a product without any basic ergo tests?@@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
LOL you give Shimano too much credit. And not all Asians have small hands - mine are pretty polar bearish :) I guarantee the next iteration of PA will have some kind of contoured foregrip, just like the new Expride/Glorious/Ultimas, and the reason is people generally prefer it, and people prefer it bc it's more ergonomic. Look at MB's P5 spinners - great actions but a bump of a grip ruined that entire lineup. Promise you Ito will go back to the drawing board for the next gen rods.@@Justin-zw1hx

I have 2511UL ultima, to me the ultima's handle feels worse than Adrena, and my 2510UL glorious is the best. I was just telling people don't ignore the rod because feeling is really subjective, and I answered your question why Adrena feels really good in my hand than ultima.@@CookingandFishing

i would say try the shimano 7' Light expride B. its way more comfortable than my adrenas. and i don't find it any less sensitive.
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
I've heard people say the 7'L B is more like a medium powered rod, which I take with a huge grain of salt. What are you using it for? How heavy a payload do you cast on that rod?
@spinningrodfisherman Жыл бұрын
@@CookingandFishing i cast things as light as 1/16 on it and it does fine, sometimes even lighter stuff for trout. i would say its closer to a ML for power. its very similar to my glx 842, maybe feels like even a bit more power. it can handle small fish to steelheads. i found it was better than the poison 6'7 simply because it was so comfortable to use.
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
@@spinningrodfisherman Yeah that 7L is definitely on my radar, mostly for 5lb fluoro + shad raps/high cuts and other small moving plugs. Thanks for the info!!

I’ve been wanting to try a Poison Adrena spinning rod, but there’s not enough options. The 6’7 ML is too short so I grabbed an expride 7’2ML and it’s stiff like a medium power. Guess I’ll just keep dreaming.

I've heard that about the new Exprides - I can't imagine Shimano forgot how to label a rod lol. Did you load up the 72ML on a fish?

what about one of the IMX Pro 7'6 spinning rods? they have a 901S (I just bought this one but haven't used it yet) but also a 902 which is 7'6 medium power.

Hey, hi there greetings , you have been my teacher in the introduction of how to catch my favorite fish ( porgies), the finesse method with artificial lures using the spinning reel method , so now im searching for one spinning rod , 1pc model , shimano rod anything from poison adrenas to exprides , zodiac model etc , that you would suggest for the porgie finesse fishing method that i consider you a pro in , lure weights up to 3/4 oz at most possibly 6"3 or a bit more of length, fast or extra fast , that porgies wont shake off ,i also have small hands and handle the reel seat between the middle & ring finger, with the backbone and sensitivity , wen will you have more finesse porgie fishing videos ? thanks & blessings.
@CookingandFishing3 ай бұрын
3/4oz is very heavy for porgies, if you are using the little crankbaits I use they're like 1/8 - 1/4oz in which case the Expride 610ML is perfect for porgies.

Nope, but I think the refresh will have a soft touch tapered foregrip
@anthonypacion-chanthabouas8186 Жыл бұрын
It's a shame that the foregrip is a downfall, I think the Adrenas are one of the more aesthetic looking rods 👌

I agree, and more's the pity that the blank is so lively...hopefully they fix it in the refresh!

How does this poison adrena compare with the 610ml expride. Which one feels like a lighter power? Asking because they didn't have the expride in the store but had the poison 6.7ml and the tip is a lot lighter than my 6.6light expride. Also you had both the expride a and b in 610ml, which one is softer. Thank you
@CookingandFishing9 ай бұрын
The A and B Exprides 610ML have identical taper/actions in my hands, both of them are lighter through the tip than the PA 67ML. The PA has a great taper, more gradual than the Exprides which are basically dropshot rods while the PA 67ML has a more versatile taper imo.
@zveryok1Ай бұрын
You see how your finger magically extends and lands on the blank and you seem to always want to hold it this way? This is by design. That's how Japanese anglers hold their rods. Usually two fingers extending forward and touching the blank for more sensitivity. It wasn't designed for the US market.
@CookingandFishingАй бұрын
Lol...what about the Expride/glorious/ultima foregrips? Daiwa uses a reverse foregrip on all their JDM spinning rods as well. Olympic, studio composite, evergreen...raid...MB...the list goes on. Were all those rods designed for American instead of Japanese hands?
@zveryok1Ай бұрын
@CookingandFishing Some of them, absolutely. Some are just designed differently. But if your watch the Japanese fish any of these rods, they still hold it the way I described 😊
@CookingandFishingАй бұрын
@@zveryok1 I don't care how anyone else hold their rods lol, but since the vast majority of current JDM spinning models come with a tapered foregrip, I'd say your theory holds zero water :)
@zveryok1Ай бұрын
@@CookingandFishingThis type of handle is very, very popular among the Ajing rods. Not as much the bass rods, but habit is habit.
@CookingandFishingАй бұрын
@@zveryok1 yeah it's fine for microfishing catching baitfish, if you have to fight a 5lb bass for 3 minutes on light line I don't care how many fingers you rest on the blank that lack of a foregrip is a deal breaker.

Good vid, thank you. Off the topic question: You mentioned you will be getting the new Vanquish in one of the previous vid. I have pre ordered the C3000XG but now I have second thoughts if I should order the 3000HG without the C or even the 4000XG instead. It will be used with lures and metal jigs on 9' MH Shimano Genos, fishing from shore and rocks for sea bass. I will appreciate any advice on the size of the reel.
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
I think you will be happier with the 3000MHG on that rod.
@Jack-tn8im Жыл бұрын
@@CookingandFishing Thank you for your thoughts. It will also be sitting on my new Daiwa Labrax 9'ML - bought it thanks to you. The only thing about the 3000mhg I am not sure is HG gear ratio and not the faster XG.
@CookingandFishing Жыл бұрын
@@Jack-tn8im I prefer HG - it's by no means a "slow" speed but it will stay smoother longer than the XG, have more torque, plenty fast enough for consistent jig hooksets, and most importantly it helps me keep pace when I'm slow rolling moving baits like spybaits/swimbaits etc. If the 3000MHG holds enough line for you (plenty of PE1 for me), that's the one to get for both the Labrax and Exsence Genos 9fters.
@Jack-tn8im Жыл бұрын
@@CookingandFishing Thank you very much. It was a dilemma for me. It is good to have advice from an experienced angler. I will amend my order to the 3000mhg. All the best, tight lines 🙂
