The Shimano Jackall Poison Adrena, Expride B, and Zodias Spinning Rods compared and contrasted
I hope this video helps any person who wonders which of these top of the line Shimano rods to purchase. The characteristics of these rods have moderate overlap in composition and performance. Each rod also has unique performance characteristics that would encourage a person to purchase any one or combination of the rods. So which one should you purchase? The definite answer is in the video.

I have no idea how your channel was recommended to me but I'm so glad that it was! Clear, concise and right to the heart of the matter. I was waffling on the Zodias as I have an Expride casting rod paired with a Curado 71HG. It's great, but I felt that it was just too stiff for finesse (at least for the way I finesse fish). I decided to go with another spinning setup for my next purchase and the Zodias was in my sights. With your explanation I am no longer hesitant and will go pick one up tomorrow. Now the only question is.. do I stick with my Sahara 1000 reel or go for the Vanford 2000? First world problems, I know. By the way, thank you and SUBBED.

How do you find the sensitivity difference between the Zodias and Expride? I picked up a 7' Heavy Expride A casting on sale when the B's came out. It's by far my most sensitive rod. I've had St Croix Victories, Legend Tournament Basses, Megabass Levantes, and with the Expride there's no mistaking when its a rock and a fish. First few times I got a bite with it I was amazed at how clearly it transmitted vibrations. Not that the others are bad at it, but it was just super clear. I was always curious how the Zodias stacked up.
@familybudgetfisherman
@familybudgetfisherman Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching the video and for your question. I believe the Zodias 2020 is more sensitive than the Expride B. I definitely agree that once you hold an Expride (A or B) you will notice a sensitivity difference over other rods in its price category. For example the Expride B is more sensitive than the Daiwa Tatula Elite. That said, since I fish the Poison Adrena, Expride B, and Zodias simultaneously and I notice the ever so slight differences in each rod’s performance. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

Malik congratulations on the new house may you have many years of happiness in you're new home. I have just purchased NRX+ 822s spinning when I tried it in the pool it is the one I would pick. But I am waiting on a Poison Adrenal 6'10 m casting. I fish for spots on my lake in Cal. I have watched many of your videos and appreciate your opinion. I hope to go fishing for the first time in a month to try out my new rods. I also splurged and purchased a Daiwa Steez AGS spinning rod (7'6"MML) for my finesse (Free rig/ Dropshot) rod and that is a bad mofo. You need to try one of those. I like my Tatula spinning, I had Tatula Elite AGS, now a Steez. I ordered a Rebellion MH casting to see if the Rebellion line of rods are like. I really like Shimano, and Daiwa Rods . Thanks again

@@familybudgetfisherman Malik, l haven't been able to get out fishing in August. Sunday I think I'm going to walk the bank. Looking forward to taking my Tatula/Vanford set up with a speed worm on a free rig. I just purchased a Daiwa Rebellion MH rod construction looks beautiful aluminum lock nut spiral wrap, feels very light weight. The tip feel very soft and goes down into the blank very fast . To me it feel like a MMH not a MH. For a rod at $200 price point it's comparable to a MB Levante or a Zodous. I see hardly any reviews on the Rebellion series of Rod. I pair my Rebellion with a Curado 150 this is a great feeling setup you can palm the reel. Once again you're work is appreciated and #outwork yesterday.

What do you think about the carbon drag washers in the Vanford 3000? I find them to stick and slip a ton under low drag settings (for trout, bass, freshwater, etc.). I replaced mine with the old felt washers we got in the Stradic Ci4+ and it is buttery smooth and consistent again! I use a Ci4+ 3000 on a 7' medium Expride and I use a Vanford 3000 on a 6'8" medium light Zodias (the 2-piece model from the JDM). Both are GREAT rigs; Ci4+ and Expride for reaction baits, Vanford and Zodias for finesse :)

The stickiness of those washers on low is a nag for me as well. I didn't think of changing the carbon washers to felt washers. Thanks for the solution! Most of the time, my drag is set pretty high and the carbon washers ar not a problem. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

Thanks for making making this video. How’s the zodias vs the phenix m1 ?
@familybudgetfisherman
@familybudgetfisherman 5 ай бұрын
The Shimano Zodias and the Phenix M1 are two completely different rods. They almost never compete with one another and almost always complement one another. The Zodias has a more limber (moderate) action and the M1 is a more fast (stiffer) rod. When handling the same baits the Zodias is better with slower moving baits, such as tubes, and the M1 is better with faster moving baits such as underspins. They are both very similar in sensitivity and casting distance (reels and line being the same). Consequently, there’s almost no difference between the two rods with bottom contact baits, such as Ned rigs, except in setting the hook. I hope this helps. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

Zmans popping frogz is & has been my main go to frog for past 2 years now. It can be fished like a weightless texas rig. It comes through & over vegetation with ease, you can speed it up & legs have a good kicking action. The elastech floats with 3/0 ewg hook & throw it on a med-heavy spinning rod with 14lb mono. From spring through fall the rod only has that bait on it! Those poison adrena rods I bet are amazing but that's way above my budget. I've been extremely happy with zodias & Expride B's.

@familybudgetfisherman Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the video and for your comment and question. The medium would be the best choice; especially with that 2000 size real. The medium heavy will be too stiff for your finesse applications, and the medium light would not be enough backbone. You’ll have the most flexibility with that medium power Zodias. Definitely helpful reviews! Im a kayak angler, mostly largmouth, but I'll target striper & crappie at times when I wanna do something different or come across them. I have a spinning 6'9" medium zodias that I enjoy very much. I also have 6' 10" casting Expride B med-heavy. I just ordered a 7' light spinning Expride B. Everyone says the expride B's action is a little higher so if you want a med light get a light, if you want a medium get a med-light. I've only had higher end rods for about year n half. After using them, there's no going back. The sensetivy is so much better, I absolutely catch more fish because I can feel more bites & difference in bottom features.
@familybudgetfisherman
@familybudgetfisherman Жыл бұрын
Thank you for such kind words. I like your technique for choosing an Expride B. You are correct on the use of high end rods. However I've noticed a plateau in that sensitivity once you get north of the Poison Adrena price point. I cannot feel the $225 more in sensitivity in my NRX+ than my Poison Adrena. That Expride B is one of the best high-end workhorse rods on the market. Many times I have just taken that on rod with me. However If I want to concentrate on finesse in the $200-400 rod range, it is hard to beat my Zodias. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

nice comparison. i also own all 3 but in 7' M, and expride b 7L(this excels in finesse out of all the rods for sure you should try it) and also another new expride b in 7MH+ 2pc which is heavier power slightly. i agree i would pick the adrena as the all around, at first it felt so different than my other rods how it transmits vibrations, but after getting use to it, its a very nice rod, i can feel more vibrations than the expride but not by a huge margin. expride is growing on me more because of the comfort of the handle. i find the adrena the lock nut i don't like it in that position as i hold it towards the front much more. next set of rods you need to test are daiwa steez compile x :D theres a very special 7'6 one i like so far. keep up the good reviews!

Great question. Generally, as the price of the rod goes beyond $200 the sensitivity of those rods increase dramatically. So assume sensitivity is to your liking once you consider rods over the $200 pricepoint. So to answer your question, The Daiwa Tatula Elite is more sensitive than the Zodias. Where the Zodias excels is being a more complete package for finesse fishing. The rod's responsiveness, the casting distance, as well as the sensitivity make the Zodias a more premiere higher end rod for finesse fishing. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

Happy New Year! I pray for peace, safety, and opportunity for you and your family. The 7 foot medium Shimano Zodias spinning rod paired with the Shimano Vandford is the best drop shot rod in my arsenal. It has enough power to drive that hook into a fish’s mouth and the most controlled flexibility keep that fish pinned until I land it. My budget friendly option would be either the medium powered St Croix Bass X or the Dobyns Fury paired with the Daiwa Legalis LT. Just a note, you might already know this, but it’s worth mentioning that whenever we get into technique, specific rods and reels, they are always going to be a little bit higher than the more versatile combos. I think that all those blanks are supposed to have probably the same sensitivity the biggest difference with the zodias is you don't have cork on the handle so your hand is going to receive direct vibration a little bit more in your fingertips. that's just the theory or my guess why you picked it as the finesse sensitivity rod. I haven't really gone through what the guides are on all... I was listening to Gary Dobbins and he said that you could feel the difference when you add to torite guides to the XP line and turn it into an ecstasy. it has to be the dampening from the cork especially on the new x pride b reaching way in front of the real seat. is the other thing that people are thinking is the carbon fiber frames on the new AGS guides are more sensitive but at the cost of being more fragile.

Well said. I most definitely agree with your point, regarding the zodiac that the handle material allows for better sensitivity than the X pride in particular. Honestly, I don’t know how much more sensitivity that the guides would add to the rods. They are so sensitive that there may not even be enough difference because my hands have a limit as to how much sensitivity I could feel. You are correct, AGS guides are more sensitive than Torzite guides, but there are those complaints about the fragility of AGS guides by comparison. I have three rods (now four with the St. Croix legend, extreme) that have AGS guides and so far I have done well with them. I don’t have any cracks or compromises of any time after two years of use. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

I definitely understand both of your points. However, I don’t dabble in the international markets for fishing equipment, because the warranties are unenforceable in the United States. At least if I purchase a rod in the United States, from a manufacturer or retailer who is in the United States, I have some recourse. As great as those rods are in the international markets, warranty is a big deal to me. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

i just got the medium 610 expride A.... what all techniques do you think I can use it for? Trying to be as versatile as possible.
@familybudgetfisherman
@familybudgetfisherman Жыл бұрын
Your 3 best reaction bait techniques will be the crankbait and jerkbait (up to 10ft), bladed baits such as the chatterbait and the spinnerbait, and poppers and other top water baits up to 3 inches long. 3 great finesse techniques are the darter head, Ned rig, and paddle tail swimbaits up to 4 inches long. Now depending on the line you use you can adjust those techniques to your preference. Let me know how well you do when you fish with that new Expride. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

I think u feel like that about the zodias because it's made with cheaper materials which makes it softer than the other two at the MH power . A medium or medium light power spinning rod would be better for finesse applications. The sensitivity on both the expride and the adrena is light years beyond the zodias . I think you'd hav a different opinion if u went with lighter powers. Medium heavy and heavy power rods for your power fishing applications like frogs and jigs etc. ..would be better on baitcasting rods. Can u not throw baitcasters or do u just not like them?

It’s not the cheaper material (which I would dispute), it’s the performance in the same power category. There may be a difference in favor of the Expride over the Zodias with two medium light models (which I do not own), than the two medium heavy models I currently own. Maybe one day my family budget will give me an opportunity to make that comparison. I do own several baitcast combos. They are fantastic combos with which to fish. However I only use them for special applications such as throwing heavy swimbaits. My preference for spinning combos part personal and part practical. Spinning combos are widely used rod combination in Fishing. It can present the most wide selection of baits than any other fishing combo. They tend to have better drag systems, and are much easier to help introduce our passion novices interested in the sport. That said over the past 40 years I learn to be better with spinning combos than most people are with baitcast combos 🤣👏🏿🎣

@@familybudgetfisherman well the cheaper material isn't really debatable ...it's the biggest reason for the price difference in the rods. The lower grade carbon used to roll the blanks makes the zodias slower(more parabolic) and less sensitive than the Xpride and adrena. shimano wil tel u that themselves. I totally understand ..and respect your reasoning on the spinning vs baitcasters tho. One more question if u don't mind ...in your opinion ..which is more sensitive between the croix legend elite and the shimano adrena?? Thanks for all the great content ...best wishes on the upcoming season ..and Peace and Blessings to u and yours sir.

Thanks for the question...keep them coming. The Shimano Poison Adrena is slightly but noticeably more sensitive than the St. Croix Legend Elite. That said, Each rod has different duties, so they compliment each other very well. The Adrena is more universal and leaning toward reaction baits and the Legend Elite is more of a slower bait presenting rod. Thank You Very Much for your continued support! 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

If you use braid, they're all sensitive. Use fluoro, and there's a massive difference between the adrena/expride and the zodias. The Zodias has a really crappy blank compared to the other two.
@familybudgetfisherman
@familybudgetfisherman Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I agree they are all sensitive but there are different degrees of sensitivity depending on the equipment, your hand, and the element under which you are fishing. BTW, the blank for the new Expride and the new Zodias is the same. The blank diameter is wrapped tighter for the Expride and wider for the Zodias. Also the wrappings and guides are different. So while I see your point I have a different perspective. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣
