As a rod designer at G. Loomis, you can use heavier braided lines on the rod with no problem. That max line rating is usually slightly lower than the strength of the blank so as long as you use 8 lb leader on Braid you will be fine because the line will break before the rod.

Malik, Like a kid on his Birthday with a wonderful gift! Excited to see your after impression. Beautiful looking combo. My go to line is FC Sniper 7lb use it for both leader and filler depending on type of lure and if I’m using braid. But also like a Trilene XL 6Lb. Try a nice dragging bait such as a nice Nikko 3inch Hellgrammite, wacky rig a nice 5inch senko with weighted hook or a small topwater spook and then a nice nose hooked fluke! I’d toss a gambit of lures even some crappie lures. Know you’ll be giggling as your casting away! Hope you’re family and parishioners are healthy and enjoying the weather!

Mali….this is such a bad ass combo. Impressive. With regard to your questions….line: as this combo should be used for sensitivity related tasks I would recommend Seaguar Tatsu Fluoro Carbon line. As a consequence I would recommend the following technique specific baits (in general): Ned Rig, Drop Shot, Texas-, Free- and Carolina Rigs, Jigs (of any kind….football, roundhead, cheburashka etc., no swim jigs), maybe blade baits (depending on the real life action of the rod), Neko-Rig, Tokyo Rig (bottom related finesse worm techniques) and finally wacky rig. Gorgeous setup.. ive got 4 stellas and nrx+ rods. This is definitely a setup I'll be looking to get next. I use cortland 5lb braid on all my Stella's for drop shots. But i know you said you dont wanna use braid. I would start with 6lb mono trilene until you see how well it works on the rod, then switch to fluorocarbon..happy birthday to your daughter🎉

Cortland sounds like a great choice. Thanks for mentioning it. You have a VERY IMPRESSIVE arsenal as well. 4 NRX+ / Stella combos is top of the line as well. I plan to upgrade my NRX+ to a stella as soon a deal makes sense, and my savings (lol) builds back up. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

Malik, I love that you did this video. I have a Stella that I bought in 2003 and it still looks and functions like I just took it out of the box. I originally had it on a St. Croix Mojo Bass. My Shimano Stradic is no on that rod and my Stella is on a Conquest. I made the jump to baitcasting reels when Shimano came out with the DC reels because they enabled me to finally spend more time fishing than picking out backlashes. I have a Megabass Tequila Baccarat (paired with a Curado DC), an NRX JWR, an NRX+ Mag Bass and NRX+ BJR, but one of my favorite rods is the Poison Adrena (all paired with Metanium DC reels). At some point in my future there is definitely a Poison Ultima casting rod! For line I use FC Sniper, Assassin, Seaguar Invisx and Pline Tactical. I’ve found the first to by Sunline are my preferred although I’ve heard good things about Seaguar Tatsu. Subscribed and looking forward to more videos.

One of the best innovations in bait cast reels is the DC technology. What is your PB on that baccarat? I have a few baitcasters in my arsenal, but I may just live and die by the spinning rod, 😂👏🏿👏🏿🎣

@@familybudgetfisherman Thank you! It’s taken me years to acquire. I usually treat myself to a new rod/reel every other year or so. As for the baccarat, I bought that to mainly use for frogging and I haven’t had any luck with Bass on it (mostly because I tend to be stuck in my ways and lean towards chatterbaits and jigs instead of frogs). I did however hook a 30 inch pike with the baccarat using a Megabass Vattalion in matte tiger (first time going for pike and 3rd cast of the day). My pb Bass for largemouth came with the Poison Adrena and hooked a 5.25lb largemouth using a chatterbait in New Jersey. For smallmouth, I hooked a 4lb in December 2020 on a reservoir using a blade bait with a Shimano Tekota on a St. Croix Eyecon rod, while going for rainbows and lake trout. I also hooked a 20” rainbow that day. My fishing situation has changed the past 2yrs. In 22, my dad got sick and passed in June, so I only got out once. I took my nephew who caught the first 3 Bass on the bait cast set up my dad bought right before he got sick. He had wanted me to show him how to use it, but never got to use it, so my nephew has it now. In settling my dad’s estate, I bought his condo to keep it in the family, but had to sell my 14 ft Hobie Pro Angler since the HOA won’t allow trailers. This year not too much luck. Trying to find/learn new lakes and bank fishing. I’ll get a new pedal kayak at some point, but a shorter one so I can carry in the bed of my truck with a hitch mount kayak extension/carrier.

Wow! You have lived a lot of life in the last 2 years. Losing your dad must be still a challenge to accept. I will be praying for your continued strength. Praise the lord for preservation. That is a huge sacrifice to give up your boat to keep dad’s house. If you are interested in throwing braided line, power pro does sell super slick V2 in 8lb test. I have that spooled on my vanquish 2k for trout and panfish on my 6’4 light panfish legend and it does fantastic, I tie a fg knot and add 10ft of fluro and I run that down to like 3-4 feet

@@familybudgetfisherman that Stella will last forever! I love good quality gear and like to give cash to the local guy but lately I’ve been having fun with Ali express and temu rods and reels! The rods are great value but for baitcast I’ll usually rebuild with better guides, some of the reels are pretty good too! On par for quality now with mid range big brands but at entry level price! And the performance of some is pretty impressive!

Just watched the video and OH MY GOD that is a gorgeous combo! I'm happy for you. I had the Stella FK 2500HG since August 2022 and have it on an NRX+ 852S and got the combo as my birthday gift to myself. I was looking at the Poison Ultima over here at my local shop where I get my high end rods and they have pre-orders for the 7'0" ML and M for $1290+ tax. Thats a rod I may have to grab next year and being so light I may grab a 2023 Vanquish 2500HG. But once again, congrats on that slick set up. I love it! I'd love to get the 7'0" ML like yours for a secondary dropshot rod with 5lb fluorocarbon. I completely understand what you meant about the whole boat thing and instead you get high end gear and I am the same way. Between 2 vehicles on my driveway and a small garage, I hardly have room for a boat. Maybe on my next home. As for the suggestions you asked for, here is my picks - Line (Fluorocarbon only) - 7lb Sunline FC Sniper. (That line weight is literally the perfect all around rating if you plan on using, dropshot, ned rig, wacky rig, neko rig, smaller shakeyhead and even spybaits. Baits - Roboworm Straight tail worms 4 and 6 inch and 6" fat Roboworm 4" Sculpin Roboworm Ned Worm 3" Roboworm Alive Shad 3 and 4 inch Missile Baits Magic worm 4 and 6 inch ZMan - Finesse TRD, BugZ, CrawZ, TicklerZ Jackal Rythmn Wave 2.8" Yamamoto Floating Ned X Zone Ned Zone I am going to have to come back to this and find more baits lol. Nice set up. Late response, but if you go braid - I'd say Power Pro Onyx 10 lbs or any black color line to match the beauty and sexiness of the rod and reel. Throw senkos, ned rig, drop shot, jerkbait, light lures, etc. Hopefully you have a nice rod sleeve and reel cover to protect it. Plan to get same combo, but Stella 3000 XG instead. Fish On!

@@familybudgetfisherman I definitely agree if it’s a priority to anyone to have it I think there’s enough side hustle you can do to get it with out breaking the bank I think I told you before but I’ll say it again my fist combo is the new Expride with the 23 vanquish and it was such a experience opening up that box. The same face you had with the Stella was the same face I had when I saw it in hand.I had I recently got a Daiwa presso ultra light paired with the new revros and idk that spark wasn’t really there Shimano really stands apart from other companies. One thing I do wish is that it would be nice for them to explore different colors for reels that way you have more options when it comes to wanting to match the rod

15lb braid to 6-8 lb fluoro would be solid on that setup, the line rating is basically calling for the DIAMETER of 4-8 lb mono, so ur looking for braid that's equal to the diameter of 4-8lb mono.

If you tried bulling a 15lb fish using heavy line the rod has a great chance of failing before the line would. Diameter of line is not called for. If they wanted to recomend diameter they would. You should be playing the fish in as oposed to winching them.

@@b12n23 the point of the leader is that it creates a weak point, if im using 15lb braid and a 8 lb leader, the line is only rated for the 8 lbs like the rod suggests.

That’s an excellent recommendation. I have found Braid that is in the 8 and 15 pound break strength. Since I already use 8 pound test fluorocarbon, I can Jess tie it on as a leader. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

The best thing at I cast was the bates hundo. If it were a Daiwa or shimano it would be a $600-800 reel. Their a steel at 375.

Thanks for the response. I suggested not using strait fluoro because depending on the brand, it can get very unmanageable on a spinning reel. Have you had any issues with line coming off the spool and tangles? I usually don't run strait fluoro on any of my set ups. Believe it or not, I still prefer mono for a lot of the things that I do, I like the stretch. That poison rod is a beauty, I'm thinking of picking one up....

You are welcome! I definitely agree. Straight fluorocarbon is a nightmare on spinning reels in general. I meant to say in my first response that I use a combination of straight braid on some rods, straight fluoro on some rods and braid to fluoro on some rods. What I have also done is replaced some of my combos that I had straight fluorocarbon with P-Line Copolymer for the exact reason you mentioned. On three of my highest end rods though I use Seaguar Tatsu fluorocarbon which I must admit is amazing on spinning reels. Unfortunately, is extremely expensive so I usually buy it when I have major discount options and I buy as much as I can. Yes, indeed this rock is beautiful. I recommend that you pick up one just because you thought of doing so. When I post my review you will see why I will say is worth every dime. However, there are ways to get discounts so look for them. I will talk about a few on my video. Heads up, it will be posted on Thursday. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

Any Japanese 0.3 sized PE braid There is a brand called AMIKA their smallest size is 0.3 -8lb Shimano pitbull has a 0.4 sized pe which is 3.8kg or 8.5 lb There is a Chinese brand called Jindo Wolf. They have braid as thin as 0.1 sized which is 5lb test

I want to buy this rod, but the only thing holding me back is the 1 year warranty. In your video you mentioned insurance. Does Omnia offer insurance that can purchased alongside the rod? Normally I stick with G.Loomis and Megabass because of their warranty on rods.

If you want this rod, don’t let the manufacturer׳s warranty limit you from this unique experience. I have separate insurance specifically for Fishing. It covers all of the issues that I would have with the rod after the manufacturer’s warranty expires, and in addition for theft and breakage. Remember G Loomis is Shimano and the warranties may be longer than 12 months, but they are limited in terms of what they would replace beyond manufacture defects. Mega Bass is even more limited than Shimano. I suggest that you find a local insurance company that just deals with fishing equipment. Ask your local tournament anglers who they use for their fishing equipment insurance. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

I would not use strait fluoro on a spinning rod. Stick with braid with a fluoro leader.

I do understand your perspective. However I do actually use both straight braid and braid to fluorocarbon leader on my rods because I throw spinning rods 95% of my fishing time. My megabass White Python, paired with a Daiwa Zillion is the only baitcaster I throw (occasionally). Consequently my frog rod is straight braid while my Expride B and my 13 Fishing Envy, and my Tatula Elite are braid to leader. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

If any of you own this rod let me know if the stiffness of the rod is the same as the Poison Adrena. I own both the expride and adrena in spinning medium power and they are both the exact same stiffness which in my preference I like.

The model that I have (the medium light) is not as stiff as the Poison Adrena however it is stiff for a medium light and it does pin those hooks in the fishes mouth very well. I’m in the process of doing my 40 hour on the water review, and I take my NRX+, my Poison Adrena, my Expride B, and my Legend Extreme for those meticulous comparisons. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

Throw the combo in the water. NRX+ is lighter rod. So the ultima isn't the best. Conquest is even lighter than that. The companies have got you fooled. Conquest is the best with a better cork handle. Try fishing that ultima in 100+ degree weather, hands are gonna burn. Or even try to fish in very cold weather , hands will be super cold . Or when the handle gets wet and slippery. Cork minimizing all of those concerns. Go Conquest then you'll know the truth. Yes I also have the Ultama in both spinning and casting.

Wow! You’re pretty hard on new innovation. 1/10 of an ounce in favor of the NRX + is hardly enough to say that the innovation the Ultima brings should just be thrown in the trash. I never mentioned in any of my videos that the Ultima is the best. However, I mentioned clearly that the innovation the Ultima brings will challenge other rod companies to improve on their productions to make better rods. The NRX+ is still a premiere rod however, there are bait presentations that are much better presented with the Ultima than with the NRX+. I can say that conclusively because I have both rods and have used them for at least 50 hours each. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

Thanks for watching the video. I tend to like both Daiwa and Shimano. I don't have the same experience with Daiwa products overall being more durable than Shimano. My Zodias and Curado rods are very durable. Also I have lot's of video's on rods and reels that can be purchased for less than $100. The subscribers of this channel have incomes of $0 to over $500k. So family budget money available for fishing is wide ranging as well. Consequently my presentation of equipment is equally varied. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

$900 + dollars, a ONE year warranty, made in China rod? You can buy this from Japan for +/- $650. JDM Ultimas were made in Japan in the past, I'm not sure about this year. I'm tired of high end China rods having less than a lifetime warranty. Also tired of you-tubers making backdoor deals with OMNIA/TW Shimano to get next to or free gear. Tactical Bassin already does shimano commercials and Punch does the Omnia commercials. Please don't sell your integrity.

There is no difference in a company trying to sell any of us a $900 rod and they would to try to sell us $50 rods. The only difference is what we are willing to pay for the rod. This particular rod was introduced to the world in 2014 in Japan. I recognize that it is not new to the world. However, the United States offering is new this year in 2023. As a “Me-Tuber” I don’t have any back door deals with any company. I mentioned that in the video. If I ever establish a deal with any company, I will let you know upfront. I Brian, a.k.a. PunchFishing, and Matt Allen & Tim Little, a.k.a. Tactical Bassin have both stated upfront their relationship with companies with which they do business. The business model of companies doing business with producers is old is television and commercials. I find a perplexing that there’s a compromise and integrity when it is done by small producers and not discouraged by multinational producers. Lastly, nearly 50% of every boat in the United States of America. Has some production parts in China. Nearly 70% of all clothing has some production in China. This includes expensive and so-called “cheap” merchandise for boats and clothes. So the idea that fishing manufactures can pursue the same sources is again perplexing. I’m wondering why you didn’t challenge my integrity when I talked about my Ugly Stiks, my Field & Stream, fishing rods, or any of my other sub $100 pieces of equipment. I’m treating this rod and reel combination the exact same way as I treat every other rod and reel combo in my arsenal. If you don’t believe me check any one of the 125 videos of already produced. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

You should change your channel from budget Fishing to millionaire fishing what’s get me is a $900 Rod and don’t have any torzite guides my st croix legend elite panfish it only cost me $385 it has them I know it’s light I really don’t care about been light like as a feather I just don’t care about that like that ugly stick I can fish all day long with it and it will not bug me if it’s bluegill crappie bass I fish with it all day long and that’s not heavy Some people say it’s heavy, but not to me. I will never buy a $900 dollar fishing pole that’s stupid I bought a G Loomis back in 99 it was so light I sold it because I didn’t like it it’s too light I cannot fish with light gear I just can’t and I had a stella 2500 on it 4 oz rods 👎

Well, I disagree with your perspective. I don’t see how it is smarter to buy a $385 rod then it is to buy a $900 rod when you and I both know that we can catch fish on Ugly Stiks which are $30-$50 rods. The purpose of this channel is to introduce people to opportunities to buy expensive equipment for affordable prices. Not to go out and pay full price for fishing equipment. You have been a terrific supporter of this channel for a long time. I hope that you realize that I am not trying to get people to pay full price for any equipment. I am not trying to get anyone to break their families budget to buy the equipment. But if you could buy a $900 fishing rod For $450 or would you do it? Since I know that you spend $385 on a rod that’s just a short trip to $450. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

It's a smart investment. This rod's resale value is still gonna be at 80-90% after 3 years. A St Croix rod is probably fetching 30% after 1 year if you're lucky. NRX rods that came out over 10 years ago still hold an 80% resell value.
