You’re crushing my soul with all this gorgeous German food. I can’t get that kind of quality here in the US. I’ve made a decent schnitzel mit spätzle, but I need to work on some of these beef dishes.

There's some lovely memories brought back by these videos. I grew up in North Germany in the 60s and 70s and travelled around the Mosel, Rhein and Bavarian regions during the 80s Been away for a few days so just catching up on your channel 😃

I remember having beef fondue growing up (I live in the USA). We had 4 or 5 pots going as I'm from a very large family. Loved it, even though it did take a bit of time for every one to get their dinner cooked. But it did bring our family closer. We would have it at Christmas time when every one came home.

It is only 3:30 PM and I am starving thinking about all this! A few restaurants around Baltimore, Maryland serve Sauerbraten! We have made it ourselves. I think the delicious ginger gravy is what puts it over the top. A favorite of mine at a little restaurant that we frequented, was German style goulash. I do not think you can beat it! It was served with spatzel and red cabbage. I think there are a lot of variations on your beef roll. I once was served them in Finland, and something very similar by a Norwegian American. The ones my Aunt, of Wurttemburg heritage, made were also tops! I would love to find any of this on my plate tonight! Thanks for the inspirations!

In Czechia we call roulladen "Little Spanish Bird". And we also roll a quarter of boiled egg (vertically sliced) inside each roll. The pickle selection and quality are supper important, even after cooking the pickle should still be somewhat firm and with the correct degree of acidity. The most common side is rice, or mashed potatoes. Yum.

My dad, from Steinheim, makes a sauer braten, uses ginger and it is awesome! Roladen has mustard, sauté onion, bacon and a diced dill pickle. Tante Frieda added red cabbage and spaetzle. Sunday dinners I long for 40 years out.

I am a pilot for a living, and am now in Poland. As I flew over Frankfurt last night, I sent a wave from up high! I will get out to walk soon and hope to find some of the cuisine you have taught me about over the past few years :)

Oh Solber, I completely forgot, and haven't had in a long, long time, yum, yum. Btw, there's also a few more complex beef gulasch recipes. We use to make what is called a fruhlings gulasch. If I remember correctly, it includes peas and carrots, maybe mushrooms, and more of a paprikash type sauce.

For a time Beef tartare was popular in Southeast Wisconsin for bachelor parties. It has since fallen out of favor. Every time I'm invited to a bachelors party in the 2000s I am disappointed that it is missing.

Being from Texas one of my favorite beef dishes is authentic Texas chili con carne. Without beans if course and I make my own and am never without it. Can yoy tell me what the favorite mayonnaise brand used at the French fry stands is in Germany please.

Moin Marta, I missed your post last night. We still make all of those except Sauerbraten, we can't get it here. Our goulash recipe is a Hungarian paprikash but sounds very similar. I've never heard of Solber but I'd like to try it. We're making plans to go to Hamburg and visit family soon, sadly there are no direct flights from Birmingham to Hamburg any more so we'll have to fly from Luton which is a pain.
