We are making Satsumaage, deep-fried ground pollock and vegetable mix. Enjoy the freshly-fried satsumaage with a tiny bit of the ginger soy sauce. Delicious!
How to make Satsumaage
cookingwithdog...
(2 people) Cook Time: 20 minutes
Seasoning cod fillets with salt is not included in cook time.
150g Pacific Cod or Pollock (5.3 oz) - net weight
1/2 tbsp Sake
1/3 tsp Salt (1% weight of the fish meat)
1/2~1 tbsp Potato Starch or Corn Starch
1/2 Egg
1/2 tsp Ginger Root Juice
10g Carrot (0.4 oz)
50g Onion (1.8 oz)
1 tsp All-Purpose Flour
Frying Oil
Soy Sauce
Grated Ginger Root
1 tablespoon (tbsp) = 15 ml, 1 teaspoon (tsp) = 5 ml

I LOVE your show! Keep up the good work! Best part of your show is that you don't have fancy utensils or appliances! You also make everything look so simple with only few ingredients, you are not wasteful and I really appreciate that! Please make more bento box recipes for kids, I'd love to prep easy ones for my child.

in this episode you can really see that someone is coaching the chef's dog with a treat. Dog is still so cute but he is ready to jump from his stand for that treat!

Oh Look so good, Chef and Francis! We usually cook like this.. fillet alone or mixed with potatoes but I will follow your recipe soon as possible!!!

I may be crazy, and I'm no food scientist, but I would think that as the fish starts cooking, it firms up and pushes the potato starch, flour and egg mixture to the surface of the fish cake which creates the crust. If so, that's fascinating. I will definitely have to try this recipe.

So you can use almost any types of fish? I really love Talipia. I think it would be really good with it :) I will try this as well. :) Cute puppy too he looked hungry in this one lol. Ive been watching your videos for awhile now, hes so well behaved.

i made this today! when i was blending the mixture it came out extremely mushy, i was scared maybe the water content was too much, so i mixed in some flour. I also found wetting your hands with oil was much better than water. It was delicous ! VERY soft inside :3 (i hope it was meant to be like that ) LOL Defs will make again ~ ^__^

I also encountered the same problem. I was thinking of the egg size that caused it to be mushier. But after adding more cornstarch, it came out perfectly fine ^_^

This looks so delicious :D and how come its called "Satsuma", in England, Satsuma's are little oranges, kind of time softer tangerines.

Jakiladd Satsuma-age is a specialty dish in Satsuma region, Kagoshima Prefecture :) I didn't know satsuma is a type of citrus in England. Interesting! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satsuma_age

The fruits are called Satsuma because that's where they were first found, in the Satsuma Province in Japan, probabily is the same with the fish but not 100% sure.

Are there cooking utility recommendations as far as cutting, turning things, or even tools/machines that make cooking easier? I do have a knife set at home, but some of my knives suck and yours seem pretty good when I watch your videos.

Pollock is found in the Atlantic waters and I'm not sure if similar to tara. To me, tara is closer in Pacific black cod - gindara. The texture is the same. It is a popular fish amongst fish lovers in the West Coast.
