For people who don't know this, the bread crumbs she's using are referred to as 'soft'. This is 'Nama' Panko, and is probably easier to make yourself than it is to find in a store! The type most people are familiar with is Kanso Panko, which is dry. Kanso Panko will work, but it's easier to get a good and even coating if you use Nama panko. This is because you can press it around the shrimp. Think about molding a slice of soft white bread around a shrimp. Same concept here. Bon appetit!

You can use corn starch instead of the potato starch. Rinsing the prawns with the salt and starch will help to remove the sand (dirt) and fishy smell :)

potato starch or flour is used to clean grime and poop from shrimp in this case... it also help neutralize fishiness. you can also use starch or four or mixture of both to clean fruits and vegetables..., it acts like a natural detergent help rid oil and pesticides from fruits and vegetables.

You might want to touch the raw prawn with a bit of your hand first. I can eat and touch cooked prawns but I didn't realise i had and allergy when touching raw prawns. So if you've never handled raw prawns before I'd test it on a small bit of skin first.

+Tabitha Akers Careful when you remove the sharp bit if that liquid gets in your eye, it will swell like crazy and burn like mad... its weird I have no allergies to shrimp or any shell fish, but my eye swelled shut and I ended up in the ER I should research if its a toxin in any way...I just remembered I poked my finger once and it too swelled up THANK YOU I just put 2 and 2 together Also if using farm raised shrimp the poop chute is much smaller and its mushie its like doing surgery to remove it and often you have to cut down the entire back, which is okay easier to flatten but less crispness This is way to long sorry
@Alethiometer9 жыл бұрын
+1Alethiometer Yup there are toxins in not only salt water shrimp but freshwater as well I think the shrimp I mentioned above were freshwater hence the poop chute..I found this site www.medic8.com/healthguide/food-poisoning/shellfish-toxins.html The stuff the FDA allows is shocking Many of my food issues went away once I got organic and went steroid, hormone, and antibiotic free foods, Non GMO and grass fed and other properly feed livestock Shame on our Government..go figure
@DaveSmith-cp5kj7 жыл бұрын
Well I think your issues are more due to an allergy, not general health safety concerns. All health measures are based on probability and most people will not be harmed by eating what is out there, but we all are individuals with our own needs which differentiate from the norm. We cook foods to denature bacteria and proteins inside our food which makes it easy for our body to break down. Lots of people can have reactions or illnesses from consuming or otherwise being exposed to raw ingredients when they can safely eat cooked or prepared ingredients. Your situation isn't uncommon. Keep in mind organic is not always safer, and organic does not mean they don't use pesticides or antibiotics (and the concern about antibiotics is not the use of it, but improper use of it). There is a lot of info written about the organic stuff, while we do want "higher quality" food, we do have to realize that a lot of the organic ideals are propagating old farming theories that have been proven to not be sustainable in the long run, especially on large scales. It is always a balance between quality and quantity. Also realize that GMO is just genetic recombination. No issue has ever been linked to GMO, as all living things are technically GMO. GMO is the only thing I can say with confidence that is not a concern, and the people promoting the fear of it are either just not educated in genetics, or are less than honest in that they want to sell you a premium price for sub standard foods.

Nice idea to clean onion. One tip for onion that might be too strong is to cover with cold, lightly salted water with a teaspoon or two of vinegar and let stand in refrigerator for a couple of hours and drain well. This makes it mild and almost pickled in taste. Very nice in salad.
