The one from Africa is actually from North Africa, where an old and beautiful country named Tunisia is located, a couple of hundred miles away from Europe. That land has thousands of years of old, rich tradition of producing olive oil since the Roman Empire and even before, just like the regions around the Mediterranean Sea.

I believe they say that Tunisian is amongst the best. Highest in polyphenols, antioxidants, etc. The harsher climate stresses the plants more and makes them produce more of these compounds in return. Which just happens to be the stuffs that are good for us

The name of that olive oil from Tunisia is Terra Delyssa . It sold in my local grocery store in Virginia for 10 dollars , on sale 4 months ago , when it first appeared on the shelf. It now sells for twenty dollars . It reads on the bottle Gold Award Best olive oil in the world 2023 . The earlier bottles in the store read the same, but 2022 . Apparently the testers for that competition like it .

Tunisian olive oil is the healthiest, and easiest to confirm for extra virgin quality properties since Tunisian farmers have extremely traditional, hand picked less manufacturing involved and the olives contain the most antioxidants out of all. therefore Spain and Italy buys most of its exported oil from Tunisia and sells it packaged, under their country labels. You are consuming 90% of the time Tunisian olive oil if it's only "imported to Spain or Italy".

My favourite is from Tre Colonne in Giovinazzo just north of Bari in Puglia. Lord knows how many prizes they have won over the years. There are also some very good lighter and more peppery oils from the area of Tuscia (NOT Tuscany) north west of Rome where I live, made from the Canino olive - which is generally well regarded and growing in popularity. Love the video very much. you had me intrigued by the first oil. when I looked it up on their web site first think was it was from Portugal, but didn't say where from. funny thing was this bottle is not on their product list so it must be made for grocery stores. they had a few different bottles about 8 or 9 all different descriptions and one that stood out was late harvest olive oil that they were selling as a premium olive oil special edition. What we learnt from you was that late harvest ripness give more oil but less nutrients. thank you for that. what I would love for you to do a video or video series would be on the uses or the 3 different presses of oil and what you would use them for in different cooking methods ie. salads beef chicken fish. where you would use a mild flavour like just virgin olive oil for rapini or salads and use the better extra virgin olive oil for dips or finishing off a great meat or fish dish when you need the power of the flavour for and extra depth in a dish. LOVE YOUR VISEOS I put it in caps to emphasize how much I enjoyed the informative video and thank you for not jumping around and dancing like there is in most tick Tok and reels these days. thank you again.

I've been living in Italy for 25 years and this is perhaps the best guide I've seen in English. We here have the advantage of local recommendations, but without that advantage, the looking for a website is a good strategy. The duff ones will certainly have no web presence. If you can't find anything online that would be a worry though not definitive as there are thousands of producers big and small. I would certainly avoid cheaper oil, the process is expensive and not easy to circumvent. In fact it would be worth getting the first oil checked. It MIGHT be Aok, there are indeed delicate oils available specifically for things like fish but it may be a blend with rubbish oil. That said, the quality has improved in recent years in leaps and bounds. Good video!

I really enjoyed your video. Lots of great information. I especially appreciated the info on the trans fat and the longevity of olive oil! Have you ever reviewed any olive oils from the States? Is there any way to find out the polyphenol levels of an olive oil?
@CookingwiththeCoias8 ай бұрын
I have had some extra virgin olive oil from California but not a lot as I tend to lean towards Europe but there for sure is good olive oil made in the USA - as for testing for polyphenols, that's a tough one, but the odd company will actually post the phenolic content 👍

My husband and I became olive oil "snobs" a long time ago, lol. I understand that high quality usually means high price, but for us, it's one of the things we splurge on. Nothing better than fresh bread with amazing olive oil....that's all you need. Thank you for your video...I'm going to go check out the labels for the ones we have. We have been purchasing an EVOO from the regular grocery store that we like for everyday use. It may not have all of the things you mentioned, but we like it. Then we have our special EVOO that we spend more for and it's a treat, but we have to buy it either online or from a high end store that specializes in that type of product.

I love your style👍👍 So glad you are enjoying EVOO and besides being so tasty, it's really good for you 😊😊

Fortunately enough, i bought the cold pressed olive oil in a dark glass bottle intuitively before watching your video...thankyou btw 🙏 One think came to me during your video though which was remembering how the old school European folk's naturally prefer to buy in bulk as they have big families more often than not as we know, so they naturally cook a lot more than regular families, which brings me to the question of the large tins of extra virgin olive oil that even many restaurants use also. How do they fair in tins, is it better, worse or no different to glass ?
@CookingwiththeCoias6 ай бұрын
So glad you picked out a good olive oil and glass is number 1, tin is number 2 and plastic is in the bottom at #3👍👍

I've lived in the south of France near the ltalian border for 12 years. For me, tasting and learning about olive oil is way more fun than doing the same with wine....maybe not the snob value - you can't swank in restaurants.....but a lot more rewarding. So l really enjoyed your video - thank you - and yes - l did learn a thing or two! 🙏😁

I like the Terra Delyssa brand because it sells briskly enough that I can get it even at WalMart within a very few months of the harvest date. I'm pretty skeptical of the usual claim that an unsaturated oil like olive oil could ever have a shelf life of two to three years. True, it's monounsaturated, not polyunsaturated like the typical toxic waste seed oils that are rancid before they hit the shelves at the store, but personally I wouldn't pay a dime for it more than six to eight months past the harvest date. Brands that show only a meaningless expiration date I won't touch. Sorry if it sounds racist or closed-minded, but I'm turned off enough by the corruption that pervades Italian society from top to bottom that I would never touch anything that *claims* to be from there, either. Some of the most crooked people have the highest quality fake credentials. The same can apply to food. An outfit that doesn't mind falsifying the ingredients list won't mind phonying up the trans-fat content and everything else. That tasteless oil may not even be olive oil.

I live in a small town and can buy Olive Oil at only two location, they basically have the same selection, but theTunisian brand is available. Also not mentioned was California Oil, which at least the variety made totally from CalifornIan Olives is rated well.
