Another great sharpening video. Thank you Mr. Robert! I will be trying the vinegar on my blades to get the rust off. And, I'll try to oil them so they stay that way.

He would love the woodmizer sharpener with cbn's. Thousands of sharpenings, they don't wear out! With as much as he is doing its worth checking out. Thanks again Thomas O'Bryant, tell Mr Robert I really appreciate his knowledge 👍

We use Timberwolf Cobalt blades and use synthetic transmission fluid with the Cooks drip lubrication system. We have a 3 man crew with a log infeeder deck. We mill logs everyday and a brand new blade will last for two weeks (75-80 hours) before we take it off and sharpen it. These blades are amazing.

Keep your blades oiled with TF fluid and they won't be rusty. Since we run our blades so long we may only get 1-3 sharpenings out of them and we are only able to run a sharpened blade about a day. After running the blades so many hours they will eventually crack from the metal fatigue. Our blades are 222" long so they are long blades.

This a real slice of good ol' Americana. Thank you, and Mr. Robert, very very much for making the effort to document this area with the intent to help others rather than sell. You might want to look into Evapo-rust® , I do not think it has the acidic attack on metal that vinegar has. I recommend it, use it for gardening shears/pruners where I can just leave them in to soak. haven't tried it on my collection of rusting blades -- yes, I was going to send them back to TimberKing for sharpening and then realized the shipping costs would kill me.

I Have been using those ruby red grinding rocks from Suffolk Mach. for 20 years and no problems. The metal dust is worst thing to worry about. Hos does he know that the arsenic poisoning cam from the rock and not the metal dust? I am going to research this.

Thanks for the red rock info. Just got my Cooks Cat Claw a couple weeks ago and I wondered about using the red rock. Not now! I found on my Timberking UltraMax blades I can barely adjust the set or the tip of the tooth breaks off. Hardened steel I suppose.
@TCSawmills2 жыл бұрын
We see that often on the blades with extra Hardness. You will have to adjust the height of the blade so the anvils hit lower. That will prevent you from breaking off tips. Just remember to back off the anvils because you will need less to achieve the desired set.

Ask if setting after grinding works and if not, why? I use a CBN wheel on my home made grinder on WM blades and have not made or used a setter yet on my blades. thanks.
@TCSawmills2 жыл бұрын
It does, but if there are burs from the grinding, it could throw dial indicator readings off. Not a big deal, but it's the reason why we clean, set, and then grind in that order.

What does Mr Robert or you suggest to do to keep the blades from rusting.

I bought a cat claw this spring. I wish I could get a few hours experience with Mr. Robert. My sharpener is frustrating for me cause I don't know what I'm doing lol.
