We have these all over where i live. You can't drive anywhere in open spaces and not see one or 15. They're absolutely magnificent birds and love how they soar high in the sky content as can be. My all time favorite winged species. Thank God for them.

Probably in a minority of one here, but I think turkey vultures are pretty birds. I always like watching them fly around.

I love watching them fly and photographing them. I want to learn as much as I can about them. They may not be pretty but I do think they're nice to see.

You're lucky you get to see them a lot, I've only seen one around where I live, though a nice pair of red tailed hawks live right by my house, and I do get to see Cooper's hawks around sometimes

A week or two ago I saw two vultures gliding headlong into the wind. They almost looked like they were hovering. Then they would turn around and go at it again. One of them did a barrel roll when the wind caught its wing. It was so cool to watch.

Agreed. I saw a dozen of them up close the other day, for the first time. I took a video of them and put it on my channel. I wasn't sure what i was even looking at, when i first saw them. Lol. They look prehistoric. I live in St.Louis area and we don't see them often. I think a storm may have brought them...

As I type there are 50+ roosting in the 100+ft poplar trees in my backyard. I love them, so big and the way they "float" on a breeze looks like fun. --Ane

True story: On my way to my job one day, I passed a cemetery where one of these birds was perched atop one of the headstones, like something out of a bad gothic/horror movie.

Gotta love 'em. They're like the undertakers of the animal world. Drop dead anywhere, and a vulture will be by shortly to see to it that your innards are properly recycled.

I saw 2 of turkey vultures on my way home the other day, and it scared the absolute shit out of me. I'd never seen vultures before - not even at the zoo - and then I see 2 gigantic black birds hanging out in the middle of the street eating. I was in the comfort of my car and still afraid to move. Apparently, everyone else knew we had turkey vultures. I can't believe I've been out here my whole life and never encountered these guys before.

I saw a gaggle/flock/whatever of them along a rural bike trail in southeast Nebraska. They were all nesting up on a rock bluff above the trail and got spooked when they heard me coming on my bike and took off, swooping down over the trail. Huge winspans!
@SuperChoronzon6 жыл бұрын
That would be a colony of vultures, other terms are kettle(when circling), committee and congregation. There are numerous, but neither gaggle or flock(weirdly enough) aren't used. I was pretty certain that conspiracy has been used, but the two pages I checked didn't list it.

They like to roost in groups in large dead trees. Since you can't plant a dead tree, I suggest building a perch for them.

0:56 vulture tries to make great escape. 1:01 tries to bite off the leash that prevented her great escape. 0:25 = vulture using the tactic for scaring off wild humans - try to make yourself look big by spreading your arms.

Where I live they have really been growing in numbers. On a good day, you can see as many as 100 of them resting ( or soaring around ) our main satellite communications tower which is about 200 feet tall that has 2 walkways near the top of it. They use the railings of the walkways as perches. Really neat to see.
