I live on my 2020 freightliner. No house, no apartment. The optimized idle is a function I use all the time. I set optimized idle to battery mode when I’m not driving. I have a tv, galanaz microwave/oven/ air fryer all in one. Laptop. Ps5. I don’t have to worry about draining my battery because once the battery goes below 12v the truck kicks on automatically and charges the battery cuts off at 14v. I also sometimes use the optimized idle comfort mode. You set the temperature in the cab. Once the cab’s temperature goes outside the range the truck cuts back on and cools or heats the inside. Once the cab is back within range the truck cuts back off.

What customize size refrigerator can you get that'll fit? I cant stand those small frig that Peterbilt come with.
@DylanTheDriver Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure for a Peterbilt, but the new Cascadia’s have a massive area to put a fridge if the truck doesn’t come with the factory one. I haven’t measured the size of the area in my truck, but it fits my small fridge plus a 3 drawer filing cabinet. It’s also really nice that Freightliner gives you 2 built in straps for the refrigerator, and 1 built in strap for the microwave cabinet. I love these new Cascadia’s!
@brianjirish Жыл бұрын
@@DylanTheDriver Yeah, I was just curious if anyone knew the biggest size frig you can install in the frieghtliner? Peterbilt refrigerator is just too small for me. IMO, It should be "unacceptable" by truckers standard.
@DylanTheDriver Жыл бұрын
@@brianjirish I definitely agree with you! Truck manufacturers should think about driver's living in their truck when they're designing them. I looked it up and the max size fridge you can fit in a Cascadia is 19"(W)X44.8"(H)X19.4"(D) That's about 4.5 cu. ft. and any fridge that large would include an actual top freezer. Personally, I'd order any Cascadia without the refrigerator because even though the factory one isn't terribly small you can definitely fit a much larger fridge with a true freezer that will help make life on the road a little easier. Best of luck to you and be safe out there.
@brianjirish Жыл бұрын
@Dylan-te9ku Thanks for finding that dimension! Yeah, I like that top freezer with plenty of space. One of the biggest expenses for a trucker is buying food on the go. I try to avoid that as much as possible. Again, thanks!

Looks like 2024 and 2018 is literally same😁
@DylanTheDriver Жыл бұрын
@Jaykick They’re very similar. Freightliner made a few small changes that most people would never notice, but the biggest change is the new Gen 5 DD15 engine, and they made a few upgrades to the DT12 transmission. I’ve had both and I can say I like the 2024 significantly more than the 2018. The new engine is smoother, quieter, regens less, has a new turbo that seems to make acceleration faster, and the torque management actually gives you some torque that you can feel especially when heavy. The transmission is also a lot quieter, and significantly quicker shifting, plus it really does a good job of progressive shifting to take advantage of the torque while accelerating. I’ve never been a fan of the automated manuals, but the new DT12 transmission does a really good job. The thing I dislike about the transmission the most is E-Coasting, and the fact that it wants to start out in too high of a gear most of the time, especially while bobtailing. It shifts so quickly there’s no reason to start in 5th gear and unnecessarily wear the clutch out.

Truck hasn't changed in years and there's a lot of driver amenities that could be added, but that's Freightliner. For driver comfort, I rate it as the worst of every brand on the road right now, and I've driven all. What Freightliner has on their side is their great fuel economy, and the engine is pretty reliable. I’ve been trying to figure out why I thought it would produce its heat from the batteries to the bug heater only does it with air-conditioning for the heat constantly turned on and off the truck definitely can’t sleep. How is that? Good to keep drivers on the road safe driving tired.
@EllieODaire Жыл бұрын
@@whogothit The bunk heater in the ParkSmart unit isn't electric, it works like most other bunk heaters by burning small amounts of diesel to produce heat. To enable that heater, you need to either have Opti-Idle in Standby Mode with "Interior Comfort Off" or have the truck turned off and activate the ParkSmart using the "Park" button on the bunk HVAC controls. If it hasn't been maintained properly and only blows cold air, get it serviced. If you have "Interior Comfort On" in the Opti-Idle menu, the truck will turn the engine on and use the main heater to keep the inside of the truck warm and burn considerably more fuel. (Interior Comfort mode is for trucks without the ParkSmart unit or for when the bunk heater isn't working correctly.)
@whogothit Жыл бұрын
I brought it in to the shop they said the fuel line going into the gas tank for the bunk heater broke. It fell into the tank. This truck is only three months old. Found out quite a few of the trucks. We just got had issues with the system. Can’t wait to get it working.
@EllieODaire Жыл бұрын
@@whogothit We had similar problems with some of ours, the fuel lines to the bunk heater are much thinner than the regular ones, so the fuel in those lines can gel much sooner than the rest of the system if it isn't treated, and then having that geled fuel in the line or in the heater itself can cause all kinds of other problems.
