Thank you Noah!!! A topic idea: books (or other sources) that have informed your approach to interior design. For example, I'd be curious to hear your take on A Pattern Language by Christopher Alexander.

Have watched The Modern House video on this home several times (it is one of the best channels on KZbin, I think) and you gave me a great excuse to indulge myself again. Your commentary, on the plans especially, made me appreciate the architecture even more, thank you. With you on the materials, the palette, the carpentery, woodwork, and the connection to the site and outlook.

I'd be worried about flooding after severe rainfalls as this lovely home is situated in a valley and dug into the ground to top it.

12:24 You could make a video where the topic is you making a model for a space (real or imagined) by hand? I think it's well within the scope of the channel, so don't limit yourself

Who wouldn't want to live in an ice cream factory? 😊 Love the site and the connection to the outdoors from inside the home. But, most of all love, that they used natural materials to compliment the cob. Really sympathetic use of materials, that allows the furniture to be highlighted and shine. I'm a sucker for a courtyard 😅 Edit: wow, and visiting the mecca of mid century modern in Palm Springs 😮 I kinda hope we get a video out of it. But also, just hope you have a lovely and relaxing trip with your partner. Happy Thanksgiving 😊

One detail you didn't mention is how the pendant wires connects within that little recess, along with the recessed puck lights. They seem to diminish the plane of the ceiling. I do not mind the bare block courtyard at all. They could have succo'ed them white like old building, but that would have been too much or even trite. I agree, the varied levels make all the difference. Thanks for including the plan and elevations, it makes it easier to understand. I agree, to-scale models communicate much more than a 3-D rendering. I seem to get a much better understanding and feeling of actually being within the space. Flowering vines, like clematis give a lived in look and soften the vertical planes and corners, should they want that in a few spots. I didn't see any.

I’ve just found your channel and I love your take on modern and postmodern design! Just wondering if you could say a bit about premodern design? For instance can the strengths of a premodern buildings (eg ornamentation like stained glass, plaster moulding, high ceilings, smaller rooms) work with modern furnishings (which seem designed for more spread out, smooth suburban architecture)? Thanks!

Hi Noah! Regarding the channel "The Modern House," which I have also been following for a while, do you know the channel "Open Space"? It's American and focuses on Mid-Century modern houses (mostly in California) very well preserved by their owners. Their videos are amazing. I also like modern architecture, but the houses on Open Space leave me speechless. Best KZbin channel for those who love Mid-century modern. Highly recommended! 👍Happy Thanksgiving❤

I really love the architectural design of this home!! I watched the H&G tour after watching your video and couldn’t believe the architect was never mentioned. Maybe it was an editing fault of H&G…. They do credit the landscape designer, so it felt very odd and in poor taste, especially with so many opportunities to acknowledge the level of involvement by David Kohn.

Thank you Noah, I love this house! I have a question: I bought a small house in the south of France, the only one I could afford with an exterior so I didn't get to choose the style. It was built in 2006 but it's quite traditional. I know you say to not transpose a style to a house that don't match it but I don't like traditional french furniture. I tend to love danish "clean", simple furniture. Is there a "rule" to not go overboard. I found a dupe of Royal System with the complete wall panelling, clearly not as pretty as the real thing, but at least I can (almost) afford it. Should I refrain from buying it? Do you have any advice that you could share?

Do you know what a landscape architect is? Most think from the name it is landscaping. But it IS often tying the bldgs. to the environs by responding to the topography, and maximizing the indoor outdoor integration, as this one does. A team of landscape architects, architects, and interior designers, WORKING TOGETHER, from the very beginning, you get results like this. Hindsight is 20/20, but I feel like that long lintel above the glass wall with the large stone portion above that is just too thin. 1/2 as thick as it ought to be. When there is a heavy stone mass supported by glass, that is just weird. The columns or posts holding it up are properly proportioned, but the lintel in no way looks like it is enough to support that heavy mass, VISUALLY. It would sacrifice view but really a third post in the center of the two columns would make it look substantial enough, visually, to support that load. Visually, a glass curtain wall cannot support that weigh. (of course a steel beam is doing the work, but it is hidden.) I have seen all brick or stone bldgs. with obviously vinyl clad chimneys. This is almost the same thing here, it works, but is the opposite of what we are used to seeing and therefore, disconcerting. This ruins the repose of that façade. I would also have liked to see a little of the lime washed wattle on some of the new portion. Just a tiny subtle echo of it. Like only the short leg of that retaining wall, maybe? These are very small things, but overall a wonderful design. THANKS.
