You convinced me, I'm definitely getting in on round 2. It's so cute and ortho has been the bucketlist for too long. The shape is so cool and that top bar with the knob, oled, and 4 keys with the cute size is tugging at my heart! There is a sailor moon themed keycap set on ali that I need to put on a detour Speaking to what was said about trust and group buys, it's been a problem for a long time. My first and only group buy (at least until detour's round 2) was for DSA dolche ~10 years ago on geekhack. After about a year or two of updates, or what felt like it, dude ran off with everyone's money. Thank bob signature plastics ended up making a dsa dolche set. Speaking of which, still using that set to this day with dsa cmyk modifiers on my main kb which is a hhkb plate case kb kit that ymdk sells on ali. Ended up cutting and filing the top plate into an ISO 60% and I love how cool it looks with this orange iso enter key

I'm so sad that my dream keyboard doesn't exist, and I lack the time and skills (which necessarily increases time spent learning) to prototype and design my own version. Basically I'd love to reproduce a Commodore 64 C styled case, but more ergonomically laid out, with space for a full sized keyboard, complete with media keys, a USB hub, and a built-in internally mounted high quality DAC. Absolutely in love with what other mfrs have done but none are EXACTLY what I want.

I'd had my eye on Mercutio for a while - MW makes some cool keebs, I think I'd still like to build a Clunker. I don't think this is really much smaller than Mercutio though, they're both 40s?
@JollyAndy5 ай бұрын
@@yourcoolunclemarisa I loved building the mercutio! They are both 40s, but it looks like the Detour shaves off a few keys. I think the clunker is hilarious and cool, but I wouldn't have anywhere to use it. Either my coworkers or my wife would kill me.
@nickthaskater5 ай бұрын
@@yourcoolunclemarisaMerc is neat. Note that it must be soldered as the PCB essentially floats on the standoffs. I Mill Maxed mine, but found the PCB would eventually slide down off the switch pins. I then modded it to be soldered and plateless and now it's a literal trampoline - video on my channel. The Clunker is awesome and the solenoid can be turned on and off. It has a few extra keys up top unlike the Merc, but they're both generally 40s unlike the Detour which is QAZ sub-40.

I was looking in slow-mo to try to see how you were typing numbers 😅and I noticed you swapped out four Super Keys for two Shift keys. Was that to make it easier to hit when typing at speed?
@yourcoolunclemarisa5 ай бұрын
Haha, yeah, two 2u keys is much better than four 1u, I use the left one for swapping layers and the right is space. My Saturn60 is also ortho but I have 2u/1u/2u with the middle 1u being the layer key.

What do you think about those Princess keyswitches? They have interesting specs, if only they were shine-through I would try them immediately.
@yourcoolunclemarisa5 ай бұрын
They're nice and very chunky feeling and sounding but they're fatiguing unless you pair them right. I had glorious pandas back when and they work great in my gf's flat acrylic board with cherry caps, but they were really fatiguing in my saturn60. The princesses are easier than pandas but can get fatiguing in the detour with SA caps. Very overkill on my end lol

I'm curious, when it comes to orthos, do you ever worry about losing your ability to touch type quickly on staggered layouts if you get too used to ortho? And vice-versa? Wanted to make my Naked48 my endgame 40% keyboard, but ended up going for a QAZ uwu30 because it felt more natural for me. Also, the real copium is the assumption that "endgame keyboard" means that you literally can't buy anymore keyboards LOL
@yourcoolunclemarisa5 ай бұрын
Not really, it takes a bit to warm back up on a different keyboard but you never forget 🤓

Is there a reason why you screw in the plate then add the switches followed by the pcb? I've been building and watching keeb content for almost a decade now and I've never seen anyone do that.
@yourcoolunclemarisa5 ай бұрын
Hahah, I was hoping someone would catch that! I like to turn my brain off when building keebs and just follow the build guide and for some reason that's what the build guide had. I don't quite understand it myself either. Usually I'll put the plate and PCB together and then the switches.
