Follow along as we diagnose and replace a AC clutch coil on 2004 Vw Jetta with 1.9L tdi Bew engine. Any mk4 jetta, beetle or golf would have a compressor like this and might be fixed this way.
If you would like to buy a clutch coil for a sanden sv7v16 compressor then find the "Tdi parts for sale new" page on my website in the following link kansascitytdi.c...
If you would like to donate to the continued production of these videos find the donate icon on my website at www.kansascitytdi.com

Just ordered the clutch coil from you. You are a life saver! Spent hours on Amazon awhile back looking for one on a UAC compressor on a honda. UAC wouldn’t sell direct to me. Finally found one on Amazon and when it arrived it wasn’t as described. Sucker was over 1/2” bigger diameter than description. Look forward to getting my customer up and running 👍🏼

repairs are much more difficult where rust destroys. We have rust but no where near what I see on SMA and other channels. Cost of maintaining a car there must be much higher due to rust and cars devalue quickly.

Great video - I appreciate you doing it! I have this same engine/year except it's a Golf. Have you ever seen a faulty clutch coil blow the 30A (S180) fuse intermittently (that fuse on the top fuse block that you point to in the video)? When engaging the AC in mine (engine running), it blows that fuse. All fans work fine, I replaced the FCM, that entire upper fuse block with a new one, and even up-sized the alternator wire to it. Oh, and the alternator checks out fine. But...intermittently, that fuse blows ONLY with engine running, blower fan on and AC engaged. Won't blow the fuse with engine off and fans/AC engaged (which makes me think clutch coil). But the AC will work now and then, or go through a number of fuses in a row...no pattern and it's maddening! Tonight, blew fuse. Disconnected clutch coil and fuse didn't blow. Reconnected coil, fuse blows...but not every time. Curious if you've ever seen that with a bad clutch coil. Thanks -- good stuff!

So I did this job today, not sure where I could have messed up but some insight would help. At first removing the clutch was a pain rusted to the shaft like you mentioned. I unfortunately bent and warped the clutch a little more than I think I should have "the problem I think is happening" once I was able to get it off and reinstall everything at initial start up, the clutch did engage but did not engage properly I had a buddy start the car with the ac on and off on and off and I could see the clutch wanting to engage but continously get caught up and have resistance once left on and let the clutch slip around I started hearing a grinding sound immediately stopped the car. I took the clutch back off in fear I may have over tightened the center nut and retighted and less torque but now when I go to kick the ac on, the clutch does absolutely nothing. Not sure what I could have done wrong. But im assuming the clutch itself may be bad especially after I mangled it up trying to get it off.

Richard. Another great video. Similar problem with my 2003 2.0, Bad fan ruined the compressor. Replaced the fan, fan controller, receiver/dryer, and compressor. A/C worked for about 5 minutes. Checked the high/low pressure switch and fuse on top of the battery. Both good. Clutch simply does not engage. Ran 12v from battery directly to the clutch and everything works. Obviously, the car isn't sending 12V to the clutch. Any idea why?

There's a ton of stuff that relates to the AC. You'll have to familiarize yourself with everything that could potentially turn off the compressor. Watch all my AC videos. The one thing that comes to mind is one that we had that a mouse had chewed through the wires to the ambient air switch. Its located near the wiper "stuff" under the cowell. The ambient air temp switches are super reliable, and I've never seen one fail. It can be tested from the fan control module if you have a schematic and understand how it works and have a voltmeter ect.

I'm having a heck of a time adjusting the air gap since the clutch sits flush inside the pulley housing. Any suggestions? I've already burnt one replacement and the second won't engage so I want to get it right.

On a ALH YES! Leave the lines connected and let the compressor "swing" down after unbolting it.

I get a parts car every now and then so I grabbed one from there. Usually it would be cheapest to walk through a pick and pull and cut one off. I'll try to remember to post the part number monday.

There is only so much I can do. If the car or specific engine wasn't sold here I would have no experience with it. Tell me year make model and engine and definition of the code, and what the car is doing wrong and I'll try to answer any specific questions that I can.

I have a problem with my 2008 2.0t FSI. One day I was driving and I had almost no power at all I could barely get up to speed. Then later i tried to start it and It cranks but won’t start, I have low fuel pressure I only have 4 psi. I replaced the in tank fuel pump, the high pressure fuel pump, fuel pump module, and the fuel filter. Do you know what else it could be.
