I applaud you opting on putting a new coolant reservoir in. That's a pet peeve of mine that the orange coolant stains the reservoir badly, making it hard to read the coolant level.
@roversnolan13 жыл бұрын
Just to add, above 205°F isn't overheating on a 5.7 Hemi. The thermostat starts to open at 203 and isn't fully open until about 219 which is about where the high fan comes on. They can safely run at 220 no problem. I'm not trying to criticise, just wanted to throw that out there as it's a common misconception.
@hschick33 жыл бұрын
I typically run 215 all day, I think the thermostat I have opens up around 190-195, not sure about the fans exactly... although they are on well before that stat opening up.

Just a tip, if you ever do it again, but, for people watching, there is a bleeder plug on the water pump housing on the backside (engine passage side) of the thermostat. It's usually in the middle, an 8mm allen plug, just above the LEVEL of the bottom of the big coolant hose. When you fill the res with this out, you actually get water into the motor before starting the car, and also will make it painlessly easier to fill. It can be done cold as well..
@guardiandogoargentinos13853 жыл бұрын
It's rusted on mine and I'm scared to try to open it. Plus i don't have any sealant even if i could miracullusly get it open
@alexmarquez3482 жыл бұрын
@@guardiandogoargentinos1385 Don't even BOTHER with the bleeder on these cars, you'll be stuck for HOURS waiting on all the air to stop coming out, just use a spill-free funnel on the overflow tank, get in the car and keep the revs above 2k or 3k for a few minutes until the bubbling stops and i promise you you'll never look at the bleeder again.

@pochomachuca96292 жыл бұрын
You don’t need to take the whole bumper out. There is a detachable lip on the bottom of the bumper (five 7mm screws and 2 clips) and that gives you enough space for your hand to reach the bleeder valve with pliers. Also, if you have skinny forearms and tiny hands, you can reach the valve from the engine bay. Btw, hope you bought a decent pair of jack stands.
@roberterpelding63916 жыл бұрын

Agreed or take two wood 2x8's- 2ft long and place them under the tires, one by one with the jack. Then get the jack under the chassis frame from the front side, jack it up and slide the ramps under the car. Reverse to get the car back down or just drive it off the wood boards when the jobs finished. This is how I do it with my Magnum.

First of all, your car looks and sounds Bad Ass!! I have a 2011 Challenger R/T 5.7 and will attempt a coolant flush/fill and thermostat replacement tomorrow morning before it warms up to nearly 100° here in Northern Nevada. I appreciate your efforts and acquired a lot of useful knowledge and informative guidance from your video. I've previously watched a few other videos of the same and while bringing the engine up to temp, they would turn on the heater to speed up the engine warming process, and also when filling with coolant, they'd remove the bleed screw after the engine has cooled down, located on the high point of the water pump until fluid started to come out, which removes any excess air in the lines and then reinstall after putting some thread sealer on it. Just a suggestion for future high temp issues, but thanks again for a super informative video!! My first Rodeo, prior to a long road trip, so I want to cover all the bases and do everything absolutely to the T, and that being said, a successful one.

There's no bleeder valve mine has a bleeder valve it's an allen Bolt right in front of the engine u have to get the air out or just use a vacuum when u fill it if not I'll hear bubbles and you don't wanna let them 5.7 s run hot cuz that's what causes the drop the valve seat at 32:18 it's next to the thermostat housing on the right

Is this Jose at Mod FX?? Look at all of that red billet bling. No need for the correct plug to plug in your fog lights, just cut the wires and use a splice. Good video man, thats pretty much what I did too. Later on ill do it one more time and that should be enough. Getting the drain plugs out of the block is a pain in the ass. Oh hell I saw a nitrous system!!

You should look into the 180° thermostat and tune the fans to come on earlier to keep engine temps down. I noticed a slight increase in power and reliability.
@Rayzaa1014 жыл бұрын
This is false and doubt you are getting more power and reliability will bite you in the ass. Putting in a 180 degree stat is a bad idea because.... Your PCM uses a logic system that enriches the mixture at lower coolant temps to aid in starting and warm-up driveability. It lengthens the injector on-time and basically acts like the chokes on a carb vehicle only better. If you put a lower temp thermostat into this not only will you set a code, if you continue to drive it like that where it cannot reach the operating temp it is engineered to reach you will constantly run rich. All that fuel isn’t getting burned and isn’t making you more power. What it is doing is going into your cats, which are extremely expensive, where it creates a fire inside the substrate and wrecks them. So you’d end up needing a grand or two in new cats, possibly new upstream O2 sensors as they can get damaged as well from this, and a stock temp thermostat to keep this from happening again. If pieces of the broken substrate migrate down the pipe a bit further, you could also have to replace the muffler that would be clogged up with broken catalyst. Hope you have extra cash laying around for down the road.
@azmrblack3 жыл бұрын
Rayzaa is correct. The 180 t-stat is an old tweak from the days of small block Chevys and Fords. These cars are engineered to run on a 203 deg. factory thermostat unless you retune the PCM. You will actually loose fuel economy - it results in exactly what he stated.
@guardiandogoargentinos13853 жыл бұрын
@@Rayzaa101 i never heard that. Hundreds of people from the Chrysler 300 club recommended a 180 tstat, so i got one. I used the 93 octane diablo tune, tuned my fans, and disabled MDS.
