I like doing this super flush in summer and run the car for a couple of weeks with tap water and without a thermostat. I did this on my mk1 Octavia over the summer. After getting rid of the coolant entirely i ran my car with tap water and changed that every week. That did wonders for my cooing system. The heater now gets a lot warmer and does so a bit quicker.

Excellent approach. Nice,slowly and precisely. In my service they never did this like you,everything is so fast,without flushing,man,they are in hurry....good to know this. (Also,I've never did the oil change by myself,first is plan to buy those yellow safety stands and maybe some cheaper mini-OBD scan,just to see the codes...)

Thanks for another masterpiece, I am thinking this should be the next project for my little fabia, as my coolant is more like a thick mass and not so watery-like xD I was wondering, is it necessary to remove the thermostat, or can you do a flush without removing it? :) Have a great day mate! :D
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, You're welcome. If you change the coolant and then have issues with the thermostat you will then have to drain it out and do it all again. For the extra cost of a thermostat and the effort, it is worth it as you then know it has all been done :-)

Excellent timing is I’m swapping coolant, thermostat and coolant temperature sensor in my vrs (which I believe is an almost identical engine) would you consider doing a heater matrix flush video as mine didn’t feel overly hot over winter? Realise this may be a bit of a faff after just swapping your coolant out...... Keep these videos up they are informative, clear and easy to follow!!!!!!

AC works independently to heating system, try changing the thermostat as it could have jammed partly and flushing or replacing the heater core :-)

Add 3CV TL-774 organic refrigerant directly to your motor. Don´t need mix or use any clean products it´s a waste of time and money.The old liquid is helpful for windscreen water tank so don´t need to recicle it. Greetings from Catalonia.

HBH Happy New Year. I have a fabia 1.4 8v mpi. I want to mirror your video. Do I have to remove the thermostat whilst doing the flush or can I wait and change the thermostat after all flushing done. Reason being my thermostat is kind of integral to its housing, the new therm has housing attached. Many thanks in advance 👍
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, What you want is the coolant flowing around the system and the thermostat is like a switch that blocks the flow when cold. Debri can also block its function, so it is best to take it out and run the engine.

@@HatBoyHarvey Thank you so much for your swift response, I really appreciate it. As I was going to use like you liquid Moly I didn't know if running the engine for 30-60 minutes could potentially cause a problem with NO thermostat. Forgive my ignorance I didn't know if your fabia being diesel and mine being petrol made any difference. Cheers HRH 😁,👍💯

Harvey,I have got fabia 1.4.mpi.I will take out the thermostat from the housing,but since this engine catches it's working temperature pretty fast,If I run it for about 5-10 min without thermostat I cant make any damage.Longer than that with this engine would be risky ,right?

Am I right in thinking you wouldn’t need to remove the thermostat in a petrol 1.4?
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 2 жыл бұрын
It is always a good idea to remove the thermostat when doing this as particles can get stuck inside the thermostat affecting it's function, but it also makes sure you have a fully open system to flush. You can actually do it without, but you might get problems after or later. Take care with the plastic housing and don't over tighten when putting it back, it only need to not leak so clean everything up before reinstalling, making sure the thermostat is seated correctly. Hope this helps :-)

@@HatBoyHarvey very helpful thank you, I think I’m going to flush it by taking the rad hose off and leave the thermostat in, then when after empty the flush a few more times I’ll swap the thermostat and temp sensor before I refill rather than taking it off then putting it back on.

Iv got a question about the small lights on the front doors( lights up when you open the door) mime doesnt work, btw im driving skoda fabia sw 2002 so if there is some fuse bcs i changed the bolbs and its still not working. Any advice will be good
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 3 жыл бұрын
Do the interior light come on or not? these are linked. check fuses 4 and 5 and check interior lamps are all good. If all ok then the door microswitch maybe the issue, but check the wires/connection behind the bellows by the hinge first.

If the thermostat is ok, do you have to take it out for flushing? It's in a difficult spot to take out
@simonsena1378
@simonsena1378 3 жыл бұрын
It seems it's under the fuel pump
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 3 жыл бұрын
It is false economy not to as if it packs up you will have refill the system again and flushing removes deposits that could lodge on the thermostat and stop it working properly. a new one costs very little and then you know the job is right for the next 5 years
@simonsena1378
@simonsena1378 3 жыл бұрын
It wasn't for economy reasons, I was more worried about the green coolant, the thermostat housing is in a pig of a place to get at, under the fuel pump. But I was worried might have trapped air behind the thermostat, am I right in assuming when you put a new one in the system is empty so it must be self bleeding. Thanks for your assistance
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 3 жыл бұрын
No, once you run the engine the air gets vented (pumped) out. Sometimes steam pockets get trapped in the pipes and a bit of a squeeze of the top and bottom hoses will move these.
