My dad always told me, chrome don't get you home, but I told him, If I'm going to be broke down, might as well look good doing it. : )

I really enjoyed this. I’ve been working on my 34 Ford truck that I inherited from my dad. I can really relate to a garage like yours!!!!!!

Dave when a modern cooling system purges fluid out to recovery tank a vacuum is created in rad because of the design of rad cap it is able to suck fluid back into the radiator when it cools. You will notice on the plastic bottle one hose. Your overflow chrome tank should work as long as you don't loose to much coolant into tank letting it come out of overflow tube.

About the Dodge. The day it back fired looked wet from rain . so maybe the ground lug for the computer lost its ground due to high reseatens and fired one of the plugs before the in let valve seated. and shocked the engine back wards skipping the timing chane off a gear or two. Good lusk with that Sir Tony Z

Lookin good buddy a little chrome here and there just accents the whole thing I'm not sure but I think you have the right kind of tank I think the other kind that puts fluid back in the system only has one hose hookup 👍👍

Hay Dave, nice little tank. The tank should work as a recovery as long as the cap is made for it on the rad. You need to have enough fluid in the recovery tank that will not let it suck air. I also alway heard, if it don't go, Chrome it!

The cap on the radiator will determine if the fluid in the overflow tank gets sucked back in to the rad when it cools off.
@ScottRods
@ScottRods 3 жыл бұрын
hmmmm. So if this rad is a modern design, which was intended for a ***cough cough*** civic, then it should have a return vacuum cap right?
@ted5415

@@ScottRods probably, they have been used for at least the last 30 years. it will have a seal on the outer cap and a spring-loaded projection on the inside that seals the lower part of the rad neck. add coolant to the overflow bottle, about 1/4 to 1/2 full.

For for a system like this how do you determine how much fluid to put in your radiator? Is it just to the top of the radiator when it’s cold?
@ScottRods
@ScottRods 3 жыл бұрын
When you find the answer, let me know! hahaha. I have an overflow tank, so if there's too much it will puke it out the rad cap. I don't know yet if it sucks it back in like a modern system, but so far so good. But remember, when you fill it when cold, the thermostat isn't open, so you're only filling it about two thirds full.

I'm curious on what size engine you have and if you have a long or short water pump im building 28 ford with a 1968 327 with a short water pump and having problems with placing the alternator inside the engine compartment
