If it continues it’s most likely the thermostat sticking open and actually over-cooling the engine. That also triggers the fans • Thermostat Replacement...
Yukon / Tahoe / Suburban / Escalade Owner’s manual Bells & whistles
• Yukon / Tahoe / Suburb...
Thermostat (verify compatibility on checkout) amzn.to/3U05E4E
Engine Coolant Temperature sensor 12608814 (Verify it's the same for your vehicle) amzn.to/460MEs8
If your temperature gauge isn’t working, showing cold when the vehicle has been operated, the temperature sensor may have failed, which makes the fan run at max speed as a safety feature not knowing if the engine is overheating. Also, the thermostat may stick open and over cool, or closed and over heat. I replaced both for hood measure, but it was most likely the temperature sensor

I cannot thank you enough for creating and sharing such a helpful, informative video! You just saved me THOUSANDS of dollars! I am 1200 miles from home, on vacation. I have to purchase a few tools, but between your video, and my husband (a mechanic) at home, on video chat with me, I am confident that I can change my sensor out, on my own! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart! As a female, the dealership tried to tell me that a whole bunch of things need to be replaced and that it will cost me and arm and a leg! My husband throughly checked& tuned up our truck before I left for vacation, so we know the dealership is lying! My Yukon Denali is doing EXACTLY, EXACTLY what your wife’s truck did. I am forever grateful for your help! Bless you Sir! 🥰

When you get it home, the thermostat can also stick open and show cold as it over cools the engine. If you continue to have trouble, the thermostat would be the next thing to look at. Yeah but how many miles are on your truck? Sometimes they do things based on service intervals. Dex-cool doesn’t last forever and needs to be changed at specified intervals.

Excellent video, thanks. 2016 GMC yukon XL 4 X 4 WITH 5.3. Mileage = 125,000. 1st time this has happened. I purchased the new coolant temperature sensor at Auto Zone for $17.00 and a gallon of the antifreeze concentrate for $21.00, I applied the tape, and took about 90 minutes to set up, do the job, put everything up and clean up. Working great. Total spent $38.00.

Wanted to leave a comment to say thank you! Seems like my 2015 Yukon XL has been riddled with common issues & it's just one thing after another. KZbin has become my go-to place for solutions. I came across several videos for this issue, but none as easy to follow & quick to the point as yours. I'm trying to learn to fix the smaller details myself. I took this as a learning opportunity & got my hands dirty with my dad. Not only did we get the issue resolved, but it was nice to bond over his intrest too. So thanks again!

This video is absolutely perfect, thanks for sharing. My 2016 Yukon did the same and I received a quote from the dealership and they wanted 1300.00 to diagnose and repair. (THEY ARE CRAZY). I did purchase the GM Brand sensor for 53.00 and replaced it in merely 10 minutes. I don't know why you had to remove the entire intake silencer or drain off the radiator hose. I removed the intake connection and left it connected to the air filter section, removed the sensor with towels around it to keep fluid from going over the entire engine/ground; and I only lost about 3 tablespoons of fluid and put the new sensor on. Reconnected everything and now runs perfectly. THANK YOU FOR THIS AMAZING VIDEO.

@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 2 ай бұрын
@@mississippioutlaw2285 the fans will continue to run because the vehicle has noticed. It is more hot than usual, just like how they will also run if it thinks it’s too cold than usual. I would try to burp the system as you saw at the end of the video by pouring coolant directly into the radiator hose that goes into the radiator, you don’t want to only have coolant in the gas tank, but in both. Make sure that the engine is cool when you’re doing this, so it doesn’t spray coolant and burn you.

Thanks for this video. I bought the part a while back after watching how to replace it on an Escalade, but then I realized that my Tahoe had the air silencer (which the Escalade did not). I was not sure how to proceed with the air silencer, but your video was very clear and helped a lot. I did not do the optional part of removing the hose -- when I removed the old sensor I was prepared with some paper towels. Things to note for others dealing with this: 1) if your check engine light remains on after replacing the sensor you typically have to start/stop the car 3 times before the car recognizes that the previous problem causing the light to illuminate no longer exists. 2) if your situation is like mine, when the sensor is bad the fan will stay on for 5 minutes after the car is turned off. For a long time this was just annoying, until it happened so often that it drained my battery and my Tahoe wouldn't start. I saw someone ask if this must get fixed - I don't know about if it is bad for your engine to let the can continue running all the time, but it definitely drains your battery.

@rwwade Жыл бұрын
@@stpx yes. It was very easy except I didn’t do a great job collecting coolant that spilled. I hosed my driveway off and it didn’t leave any marks. Make sure you replace coolant with correct type. Also try and fill the hose up before you reconnect it so you don’t have too much air in the system. I assume it matters.

This was helpful in diagnosing my 2018. Only difference in steps I followed… 1. only remove the right side of the air intake, use a bungee cord to suspend in the air to the left. 2. Place rags around the sensor when removing to minimize spill. 3. Clamp the large hose going into thermostat housing. Little to no spill, completed in 20 minutes, no more high fan and temperature on dash properly reading now. 👍

Excellent video! Just a little PSA here. Replace your thermostat also! The same guy here has a similar video for replacing a thermostat, which is right next to the temp sensor. It's a part that is likely to eventually fail so replace it! Expand his description of this video, he says the same thing, I think I just never saw it. Also you find the handy links to order the parts there. I found this video and carried out the steps as I thought it would solve my trouble code which seemed to point to the temp sensor. For some reason, I was too dense to heed the fact that in his video, his sensor was reading zero while mine seemed to read ok. I let myself be confused by the trouble code. It was P0128 "engine coolant temperature is below the thermostat regulating temperature". I thought maybe my temp sensor was intermittently failing or off. Nah. A new thermostat is what fixed that. The temp sensor was fine. The good news I have excellent hindsight so it's all perfectly clear now what I should have done!

Great channel. I subscribed! Had this issue today and these videos explained everything really well. Only recommendation is to edit the comments to ensure people reset the cpu by pulling the negative cable on the battery. Also, for anyone else out there, when removing the small hose from the thermostat housing to get that clamp out of the way, be careful. When removing it the piece my hose was lcamped to may have been on the verge of dry rot, or i didnt have the clamp opened all the way and the nozzle broke off in the house so i had to get a new thermostat housing and install. Oh well, probably good i changed the thermostat anyway :) BTW Danny has a video for that as well :)

Yeah, disconnecting the negative battery cable is covered as the first step in the video, but people comment telling me they didn’t do it as shown and short it out. It’s always a good idea to disconnect the battery when working on anything with an electrical connector but having people follow the instructions is another thing lol

P0128. Your thermostat is stuck open. Coolant sensors only break if you smash them with a hammer. Buy a new thermostat and disconnect your battery for 10 minutes. Most thermostats wear out at the 150k mileage level. Change your Coolant its overdue.

Hello, thank you so much for this video. I have actually replaced this twice within the last six months on my 2015 Tahoe. The problem seems to keep coming back however :( first we thought it was a faulty part and replaced it again but now the fan is running again and the car is not overheating. What do you think this could be?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage

It’s not overheating, but is it over-cooling? If not at 210 degrees when warm the thermostat may be stuck open kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3bJmJ6ujMl1j9k

This video helped tremendously for the repair and once we ran the vehicle; the temperature gauge worked great. Now however, every now and then; the sensor will trip and the gauge won’t work again. Ofcourse the fans will come on again, but each time I disconnect the battery terminal it rights the system again for a few days or more before happening again. Any idea? Only thing I can see different is we used an OEM replacement and not the part from the dealer, but I’m not convinced that is the issue.

It’s possible the new sensor is also faulty or the wires or plug on the vehicle side have a short and once it loses communication it faults out
