Just to note: This sensor will allow failure of the fan to run under normal operation (driving), but a good scan tool will tell you under "live data" that the fan is only about 20%-40% "requested" and never goes higher despite coolant temp on scanner going to temps over 224 deg. F. and your interior temp gauge in the dash showing normal range or slightly less than half point. (NOTE: On modern Chevy's the temp gauge actually doesn't read correctly due to how they are wired into the system, so you cannot rely on them like old cars were--you can be overheating and they may not alert you at all in cases with this sender failure :( --- (ANyway: In order to test your fan motor ,turn on AC (unless an intermittent issuel. (once fan resistor or motors crap out--it wont work at all.. or only on high speed, if resistor is bad, they deteriorate due to water exposure and rapid temp cycles) common failure.. , yes, just the resistor is available if you don't want/need a whole new assembly.. Amazon has 1 seller currently.. ,dealers do not sell it separately.. 😒

This video showed complicated way to change temperature sensor for this car, all I need to do is from the top side disconnect intake hose and push it to a side then unplug the temperature sensor then plug it to the new sensor, as soon the old sensor moved from the engine quickly light in the new one and secure the clip, small a mount of coolant come out depend how quick you are. No need to drain the whole coolant system.

I’m changing the temperature sensor for the ecm that’s on the thermostat housing and it appears very easy to do and I see any reason to drain the antifreeze because if you are quick enough to put the new one in there should only be a minimal amount of leakage. But if for some reason you can’t get the new one put in place fast enough it’s always good to have some new fresh antifreeze around that’s compatible with the coolant in your car.

I think your thermostat valve is not opening @80-82 degree Celsius, so the coolant is not flowing through the radiator, and hence its overhearing. You can check it by touching the engine to radiator inlet pipe(if its not hot after 10 mins of starting the engine there is a thermostat valve blocking the flow of coolant ).

I have Opel Vectra C with Z18XER motor (1.8, 140PS) and problem of throwing coolant out (like overheating). But it is not overheating at my case. Problem is in radiator cap expansion: i.ebayimg.com/images/g/e~IAAOSwtphc4rNM/s-l400.jpg More precisely, smaller O-ring does not keep the pressure and allows to throw coolant away at working temperature (103-108 Degrees Celsius). I bought several original Opel caps (once part of GM, same as Chevrolet) and none of original caps kept pressure. So look at it, if it is easy to unscrew, then the cap doesn't hold pressure. If you have the same problem as I have, then this is my solution: I put thread seal tape: 5.imimg.com/data5/KW/UF/MY-39233334/teflon-tape-2f-ptfe-tape-500x500.jpg in O-ring groove (wrapped about 15 times - thickness of my tape is 0.075mm) and put O-ring 23x4mm in groove. Works like a charm. Bought several O-rings more for substitution when needed (O-ring costs me approx 1$/piece and original cap cost me more then 25$ - and doesn't work). Hope to help if someone has same issue.
