@@CoolClassics As I recall, it was on a Saturday matinee double bill with another comedy, the Jerry Lewis movie "Way, Way Out". The former was a spoof of beach party and spy movies; the latter was a sci-fi spoof which took place on the moon. I had actually gone to see the Lewis flick, but this one came on first. I liked the start of the movie, which had a serious spy thriller tone, but then it quickly devolved into beach party bingo nonsense. It did have a few memorable scenes, including the really futuristic house he lived in (Garcia House) and a lot of hot babes like the late Deanna Lund (Land of the Giants). I was also an early fan of the star, Jonathan Daly (we share the same birthday, but different years). I'm sorry, but you just can't make a good beach party movie without Eric Von Zipper (Harvey Lembeck).

Larry Hovis had been singing at least since High School. While at Reagan High School (in Houston, Texas) he was in a 4-member group called the Four Spades, where 3 of the members (including Larry) were in a grade higher than the 4th member (Jerry Lloyd). Larry played drums while Jerry played bass, Winning a contest at school allowed them to go to New York and appear on the Arthur Godfrey show where he convinced the group to change their name and they became the Mascots. The group released 4 singles on MGM in 1955. After that, both Lloyd and Hovis became part of a Trio by 1957 called the Bill Gannon Three, Bill Gannon being the 3rd member. It was during that time that Larry's songwriting talent became known by CAPITOL Records with a song he wrote that was recorded by Joel Grey ("Everytime I Ask My Heart") where Larry was signed a contract in 1957 as a singer by himself for the label soon after. It was after his contract ended that the Bill Gannon Three recorded an LP for CARLTON Records in 1959.

I just watched Dual of Honor where Carter, Larry, played a German General. Classic to watch.
