Having recently walked 106K around the Isle of Wight in a day, I know how hilly some of the area is. Well done for being persistent and finishing the coastal path. There has been significant erosion on the coast, and parts of the coastline are quite muddy, particularly this year. I am one of those old ladies ( in my 60's😂) but an ultra marathon individual. Age just being a number 😂

I used to know this guy in the IOW Ramblers called Harry Peel, who would walk the same number of miles as his age each birthday along the coastal path until he was over 80. He was an e- Durham miner & when we organized rambles, he used to leave old folks (often younger than him) behind if they could not keep up, on account of them being "Tories".

This has brought back memories of when I was on holiday in the Isle of Wight in 2011, always remember thinking that there was so much and so many varied things to do in such a small geographical area and watching this has brought back a lot of good memories (will need to look on my backup drive for the photos now). Got me thinking this is needing a revisit in the next few years as my photo skills and camera have improved. How much did it cost you to hire the red arrows? 9 Sausage baps perchance?

I'm joining a group of walkers to complete the 2nd half of this challenge. They started in December 2022 and managed about 37 miles in one day, through ice and snow. Unfortunately there were some injuries due to the conditions. So the decision was made to complete the 2nd half in April 2023. All to raise money for a good cause. Fancy joing us? I've never done anything over 10 miles before and found this video entertaining and oddly motivational so it would be awesome to have you on board xxx

Well done. You did a fantastic job. I can sympathise with you, as I celebrated my 40th birthday by walking 97 miles over 7 days, doing the full length of The Kennet and Avon Canal. I think you have given me my next hike, as I will now add IOW to my list to do next year. Regards Peggy 💜💜💜

One of my favourite Marek videos! Due to my complete incompetence, I have spent the past half a year casually wondering where the Marek walking videos had gone ... then found your walking channel! Never done the whole route but covered a good 75% of it in smaller walks. Loved the way you slated Ryde to Cowes! Diced with death myself between Brighstone and Atherfield! It is mandatory for it to rain between Blackgang and Niton! Fisherman's Cottage is a great location for a jolly summer's evening! Top work and a hilarious watch!

I'm an ex-pat of 25 years moving from Naples Florida to the IOW - I won't be doing that walk :), but aim to spend 20 years criss-crossing the Island and the best parts of the coast. The criteria - at lease two pubs a day. Good job on the video - enjoy your Island humour! A bit depressed about your comment 'even in rural areas, crime is rife.' Thankfully the stats don't support this - appears that Island thugs perfer a bit of concrete and a mate (two definitions) to assault.

Hi Marek, I'm really enjoying watching your video - you are just like my pals who are not happy unless they have a gripe! My ancient pals and I will be on a week-long walking holiday on the IoW in May 2020 to coincide with the last couple of days of the IoW Walking Festival. As we are all into our 70's can you give us an idea who to contact to be able to perhaps join in with some of the walks? The idea of the coastal path is interesting but some of our group couldn't manage much longer that 8 - 10 miles a day. I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give. Regards The Glastonbury Ferryman. P.S. We've been doing these walks for 30+ years and (as a group) have never walked on the IoW! However, I bring my family there when ever I can afford it - usually every other year.

Hello there. Glad you liked the video. You have picked an excellent location for your walking holiday. I don't have any contacts I am afraid. I used a GPS map and planned out the distances. This is a good website: www.ldwa.org.uk/ldp/members/show_path.php?path_name=Isle+of+Wight+Coast+Path. My advice would be to skip the Ryde to Cowes part as it is just road walking. You could even start at Yarmouth as the south part of the Island is much nicer. So you could stay in Yarmouth the first night then walk to the Needles. There are some great places to stay. One B&B I stayed at in Brighstone has loads of rooms and they even pick you up from the coastal path: westcourt-farm.co.uk/ . The B&B I stayed at in Yarmouth was also excellent: www.medlars-bnb.com/. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

There are still loads of these vids that I haven't got around to watching. So I've decided to start watching them from the beginning. Oh bloody hell, blisters are horrible so to plough through and do 70 miles was amazing! My chiropodist told me years ago to put surgical spirit on the parts of my feet where I'm prone to them before a long walk. It helps a bit. My son really wants to visit i.o.w because one of his fave youtubers did a vlog from there recently. I went once years ago to visit my mate who lives in Ryde but it was only a flying visit. We'll have to have a hol there at some point.🙂

@@cdwc Thank you for the inspiration. You strike me as a similar soul - one who’s happy to be alone with one’s daydreams and stupid thoughts, occasionally free from the pressures of a civilisation you have accepted the obligation to exist within, but need to remove yourself from every now and then for the sake of sanity 😊 I get that same anxiety when well-meaning, perfectly decent people want to interact with me against my wishes, but I’m too polite to tell them to get lost lol. I know I’m the odd one out, not them. Or maybe I’m barking up totally the wrong hymn-sheet. Thank you so much for this fun walking trip. Have you heard of the TransWight Challenge which Scouts/Guides used to do on Mid Summers Eve (Shortest Day/Longest Night) sunrise to sunset? I did it 1985, 27 miles? West to East, an achievement but not much fun in the dark. Perhaps a future 2 day excursion plus beautiful scenery.

Yes that definitely rings a bell. I was in Cubs around that time. 27 miles is a killer. I think it is the route they use for Walk the Wight. Not sure, but will be attempting it soon.

@@cdwc I can verify my blisters had blisters! Maybe the Scouts don't do this walk anymore. God bless you on your walking jouneys. So nice to see the Island, haven't been able to get home for over 2 years 😔

@@cdwc It was absolutely brilliant. Who knows, perhaps we'll do it again, too. Clockwise and finish just after The Needles, so that we get a grand finale.

Just do the Tennyson Down bit and the Needles. The South coast is the best. Or you can just go on the 2p machine in the arcade in Sandown and drink some White Lightning.
