My Ashmore ( Ashmere) family sailed from the Isle of Wight on, “The ship Ark and the pinnace Dove, set sail from Cowes, Isle of Wight, England on November 22, 1633.” Landed in Maryland. I lived in Maryland for a number of years and did not know it at the time. So much rich history there. Sadly, I’ll never be able to return there to Maryland or The Isle to investigate.

As somebody from the north east of England, may I just say that the most important thing about the Isle of wight... Is the Rainbow Chippy But I do have another memory. My friend and I were touring the 3 towns on the south east, probably Shanklin, we had stopped for an iced lolly. we sat beside a minature golf course, where a 3 year old lass was having a day out with her 4 grandparents. this kid swung the golf club, not even looking, and the ball shot down the green, bounced off three sides, and scored a hole in one. My pal and i cheered, the grandparents cheered, passing seagulls did a Mexican wave. All while the girl looked bewildered. it was adorable.

You're absolutely right about just how beautiful the island is. I'm lucky enough to live here, and you will actually see me enjoying the sun at Colwell Bay on my mobility scooter (video marker 6:53). Yes it's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for in life. The owners are great people, with the right balance of engaging and chatting if you want or completely leaving you to your own devices for privacy. It's their refurbished amazing dream home and they're happy to share it with you (and yes for a fair price helps keep up the maintenance of this lovely residence). If you want a high-end relaxing peaceful holiday in an amazing location on the Isle of Wight this is the spot.
