When I first saw these Soundstream Tarantula Xtreme amps, I knew I had to get some in to test. I mean, wow, just look at them! Such an awesome design and finally something different than the plain black or gray amps sold for the past 30 years.
Currently Soundstream has 6 models in the Tarantula Xtreme lineup including; (1) 2 channel, (1) 4 channel and (4) monoblock versions. We decided to try out a popular size, the TXP1.6000D, no, not a 6000W amp, but a 2300W RMS amp. Still not sure why they must confuse people with the "6000W Max" rating?? Anyway, this amp is rated to deliver:
700W at 4 ohms
1200W at 2 ohms
2300W at 1 ohm
Let's take a closer look at this amp and see how it performs.

Gotta say, I'm shocked to see soundstream put out 2k watts and beat the 2 and 4 ohm ratings certified. Looks like going to a full bridge design was the right move, even if they did steal the design from soundigital. Nice video Big D! I wasn't expecting this and It was a fun video.

oi3 Vehicle not running will run @ 12v. Vehicle running will provide 14v. That’s why BOTH ratings are provided. Get the amp that makes the most power for a sub. 2 channel or 1 channel is fine as long as it has enough power. The 2 channel amps are bridgeable to one channel.

That amp does look good. Would love to see the 4 channel get reviewed, but also do a subjective listening test to let us know if it's really viable to run midranges and tweeter or if the amp sound is a bit harsh on the top end. I'm looking for really good resolution and details and I'd take some warmth as well :)

I would love to see you test the 4 channel version. It’s crazy how small these amplifiers are getting and still making big power. I’ve got an old school reference 405 sitting in my closet that I’ve been thinking about bringing out of retirement, but it’s literally 4xs the size of these amps. I’m sure the quality isn’t what it was back in the day, but it also wasn’t a cheap amp back then either.

Alot of the older (ten years back) PPI and SS amps did or exceeded rated. Issue was when the people that cared left they just started rebadging junk. Nice to see these are actually decent. I wanna see a test of the Rubi Nanos and the new PPI Power Class. Though.

I love my soundstream splx dual 2-ohm subwoofer 12", I'm a fan of the upper end models, just don't like the entry level stuff. Human reign amplifiers, and DaVinci amplifiers are my favorite amplifiers

I got one on the way for my 2 sundown sa 12s. Cant wait to try it out. Edit: 2 years later and its still going strong. It pushes my sa 12s to the limit and sounds pretty clean. Its not a sq amp by far but well worth the 160 bucks I payed. Mine is fed using 1o cable power and ground on a stock 140 amp alternator and a napa gold agm battery.

@popspowell4981 nope but from no fault of the amp. I lifted my back seat and it snapped the terminals in half because the cable was caught on a bolt. Ive already bought and installed a 2nd one and its going great. It snapped because the terminals are like 4 guage so you need a pair of offset metal adapters to run 0 guage.

I recently installed one of the stealth models in my motorcycle. I made the mistake of assuming max power meant half or less in the real world. I blew a $200 set of polk audio speakers in a few days. I now have to take it easy on the new ones, and every time I smell anything close to a hot coil, I shut it down fast. If interested, I have a 2nd one I am not using. I could send it to you for a test video.

I may be in the minority for saying this but I think it looks ugly... from the gaudy Tarantula logo that Soundstream has been using for years, all the way to the acrylic panels. Maybe those cheap Legacy, Pyramid, Mobile Authority amps from the late 90s/early 2000s era have soured that see-through amp aesthetic for me. That being said though, power is good, as expected from a full-bridge. Reliability on that one will be a question still up in the air.

I would really like to see the 4 channel tested. With the way this one looks and performs I can see myself running 2 4 channels, 1 for my mids and highs, and the other in 3 channel mode(if it has it) for midbasses in stereo and bridged to a sub

I gotta be honest, who cares about the efficiency after it made actual power ratings. When was the last time Soundstream did that? I am in shock and actually excited. Maybe they have been watching BDW on KZbin and actually listened. Very cool, very impressed, and actually excited for the industry again. As you say it is a copy but honestly, the entire guitar amp industry is based on 3 basic amp designs, just tweaked and modified for certain attributes so that doesn't bother me. Awesome channel and I love it!

Well...it ain't no Ref1000. It actually makes more power!! LOL Seriously though, they can't be compared. The Ref being 1/8th ohm (.125) stable and can run a bank of subs without burning up! BUT having said that, for Chinese crap and for the price, not bad. I just hope it doesn't sound harsh like one of those class D tripath chips.

@@VentureWelding a lot of subwoofer amps these days are full bridge. Also you can use crossover in most head unit's for low pass (sub) instead of the amp (80Hz is typical). It's often to tell what frequency the crossover is set on the amp due to the large range it covers.

I would like to know your take on the bash 500 bass plate for home audio sub enclosures. Sense I regularly fry bass plates that come factory. I'm running 7 subs on my my home system and it hits seriously hard but every couple of months I'm on either Ebay or Amazon ordering factory replacements. So I'm thinking about going to the bash 300 and 500 bass plates over the stock replacement for my JBL and my Weldon 12" subs.

Soundstream has lost its old reliability cred, in my experience. I bought a used Rubicon from the 90's and that thing was already beat up but took a ton of abuse for years. It died around mid 2010's, so I bought a new 5 channel Rubicon to replace it. It was wired conservatively but blew up in less than 3 years. If they're built in China now, that would explain it.

hey man. i'm checking out a soundstream stl1.1200d model from 2009 second hand soon. dude allows me to fully test it as i please. it's 130 euro which is about 137usd. you'd say worth it? from what i've seen and heard it does it's ratings.

I don't understand why budget companies say an amp is 6000watts and rate it less than half knowing it puts out less than 2500 watts. Everyone figures out the fakes pretty fast, like Boss or now soundstream. Seems when you are honest and rate your shit properly you would have more customers.
