N.M. The torx head was developed as a replacement that would wouldn't fall off the bit allowing for better production applications. Today most cheap screws sold in stores aren't worth their salt. The torx screws you find in building supply stores are more expensive, but well worth the cost when building things to last. The other "standard" for industry is the Robertson bit most people know as the square bit. Stick with these two and most times you have good quality screws.

Just a little tip about glue cleanup. If you clean it off when it's still wet, it spreads out and is requires sanding before you can finish it (Unless you use paint). If you let it cure completely, it's a real pain to clean up. But if it is not too inconvenient, try waiting about 15-20 minutes after you have made the mess, until the glue has a rubbery skin on it, then scrape it off with a cheap chisel, or knife. It's the cleanest way to do it.

I would clearly say that I wouldn't have any problem betting great deal of money on the fact that those perfect tight exact fits , bring Cody a great deal of pride .

I'm in the same boat, but one thing that drives me nuts is the name "Samurai Carpenter" this just does not make sense, it is difficult to explain, but in Japanese (I've lived here for almost 27 years) it is really, really strange to say "Samurai Daiku" I don't have a ready example on hand of how strange this is in English, but I know when I asked some Japanese shokunin (tradesmen) they sort of laugh and think it is strange too. I'll attempt it, but really it is strange, how about "Aristocratic Plumber" or "The entrepreneurial Bureaucrat", do you get the idea? I guess he was just going for the whole "Japanese like" effect, I get it, like Sushi shops in NA that sell gyoza, trust me that is strange LOL. In the end his work is very good, but I just wish he had not mixed the metaphors so badly LOL, really it is a small complaint. Cheers!

Nice hand router, you could use your square as a fence to keep the router from getting to close to the saw kerf as extra insurance. I would hate to have a mistake with a power tool after all the hand work you have put into the braces and really the entire room, not just the bench. I'm really enjoying this series, stretch it out as long as you want.

I'm not sure that I could technically be called a fellow woodworker as I am female : ). I love so much about working with wood and I get so inspired by the creativity and ingenuity. I love the sound of the hammer hitting the chisel and the wood chipping away, the smell of the wood and the speed that some modern tools offer. I enjoyed your enthusiasm for your project. It all just brings back fond memories as a little girl sitting earnestly near my Dad just watching his every move waiting to hand over the hammer, the wood saw, the sand paper or our old hand crank drill. We were very poor. I didn't know that these were projects for hire. All I knew was that I loved every minute. Thank you for sharing your work.

I was poking around the old KZbin yesterday & saw a workbench feature you may consider incorporating. To save your bench top while drilling through material. He had a 2" wide strip of 1/8" aluminum on the front edge. Secured with countersunk screws. This was sacrificial & to be replaced as needed. This may be an option to keep the top purty. It sticks out in my mind; Jimmy Diresta was visiting for a shop tour. He asked the gentleman "What was your start in becoming a maker?" He replied without missing a beat "Breaking things." great answer i thought. Nice work on the shop & thanks for your continued great content.

I bought the Bosch Colt hand router to fit a piece of laminate and thought I would hardly use it again. But it seems to be coming out of the cabinet on a regular basis over the years. It has more than paid for itself. Blending the old ways with the new is really about keeping what works. There is more to life than speeding it up. Especially with woodworking that you enjoy.

I don't often comment on your videos, but I think this video needs special acknowledgement. I think your skills have come on in leaps and bounds. This bench is not just put together perfectly, the design has been well thought out. I just want to say it's excellent and I can't wait to see you use it in your future videos. So once again keep up the good work. On a side note if you are not already a Freemason I think you should look into it as I think it would appeal to your personality and the way you think.

Wranglerstar is like the Bob Ross for Craftsmen. We just need to make a happy little wood bench or cut down a happy little tree.

Clamping at 10:56 will cause the two boards to have a curved stress introduced, because of the lack of continuous support. It could be useful to do that upside-down so the bench would have a crown, but I suspect this will result in some mild cupping.

If I'm not mistaken, Diablo is made by Freud. And your Stanley razor knife, I saw Paul Sellers using one like it on one of his vids and searched it out and ordered it. Who knew. I use that thing all the time. It is a great tool. I got into relief carving and use it for my relief cuts. Can't tell you how good it works. You can get great detail with it. Just some observations there. But I've always enjoyed watching you work, especially when you were doing the tree harvesting to make your own lumber and timber framing. Good stuff.

You might end up putting some legs down to the floor to act as deflection control members. With all the support coming from the wall the bench may bounce a little when you apply downward forces. (That's why leg vices go all the way to the floor.) It will depend upon the bench's final purpose. Anyway, the craftsmanship looks to be great quality...keep up the good work.

You can actually use the DeWalt compound mitre saw to do the side cuts for the dado (actually I have used it to create the whole dado if it is not too wide). There is a small lever on the right side that flips down and then you use the screw and nut to adjust the depth of the cut. Repeatable, accurate, and a fast.

Nice bench...dados+ extra thickness but screws in shear attaching the knee braces to the bottom of the bench support probably could have been a mortise.

Maybe you could give a basic idea of what you are looking for and a price range for starters? I got my son a Volcan Coronado for Christmas recommended by a Nutnfancy video for $18 and I am so impressed by that knife! It gets attention everywhere he goes and it is a sharp blade of AUS8 steel. I want to by one for myself but they are sold out now. I EDC Opinel folders, I like the no7-no9 sizes. Again, these knives are like $15 each and have very good blades, but are anything but tactical. They just suite me and my needs. Can't much go wrong with Spyderco. Wranglerstar likes his Benchmade 940 but that is getting up in price for me. Seriously, this is an impossible question to answer, knives are just so personal.

( I would have put the under-workbench shelf on BEFORE hanging those three supports, and cut it to wrap-around from the wall-side to make it all one-piece. ) Looking forward to seeing your finished product. Tis so good to have a workspace with all one's tools neatly organized and accessible. The proper tools make jobs so much easier.

Small tip on the router, clamp a carpenter's square or a straight edge on each side as a guide and you'll be able to use the router right up to the line.
