I have a cousin that was signed to Warner Brothers back in the early 90s and the band he was in was selling millions...had a hit album and were riding high...until(naturallly)the the hype died down and it was time to put in work to stay popping. So naturally, my cousin(whose use to grinding to maintain so it was no biggie, right?)and the band start lining up things to start the grind...and thats when they started getting approached by people in the industry in their ears saying..."Well, you know all you gotta do is get in with that crowd...they've got an in with this label and that exec and you really wouldn't have to do it on your own. But....nothing is free so he/she will probably require a small ask of you but thats no big deal."...except you don't know its some weird sex act and plus....you're thinking..."how bad could such and such request be?"....so you jump right in. And guess what? Your back on top....and now its time to pay up. My cousin and his band turned it all down and wanted to grind it out with the fan based and just let it grow organically and they never went platinum again...mind you Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones actually discovered them when they had a gig in a NY bar called CBGB's and got them the Warner deal. The band is called Living Colour. They had videos on MTV and everything and it was all snatched. But, because they played rock they maintained a lotta their fan based(rock fans are loyal....sorry but its true)but the chart and mainstream success was completed deaded. They still get paid well but they ain't on the short list no more and they got taken off early in their careers.
