LV started out as a member of South Central Cartel. He’d sing a lot of their hooks. Coolio started out as a member of WC & the Maad Circle. When they collaborated for this song I knew it was going to be a classic because they were both extremely talented

Yes I was 8 and in 2nd grade in 1995 and I remember one time I was at a roller rink one night at the time and when this song came on, the DJ said “I want everybody to scream if you wanna hear this song!”!

French white dude here. That song is the first I learned by heart, I was like twelve and the song was out, and it was huge. The movie is Dangerous Minds, and the blonde chick is Michelle Pfeiffer, one of the biggest Hollywood star of the 90's.

Coolio brilliantly sampled a Stevie Wonder song, "Pastime Paradise" (from his amazing 1976 album Songs in the Key of Life) to create this powerful version, which was the title song for the 1995 movie "Dangerous Minds", starring Michelle Pfeiffer. Growing up as a white person with a fairly wealthy family you'd think at first sight that I was someone really well off but this song very heavily relates to me. Between the abuses I've suffered, having to find my own way in life with no family support, and ultimately joining Blackwater after I had nowhere else to turn. My life is just very relatable in the words of this song.

This is not even about being black or living in another continent… It’s so weird that y’all don’t know this song. Gangsta’s Paradise was that one song I couldn’t get out of my head as a kid and grew up to realize that it was one rap song that helped bring in more white listeners to the genre because of its positive lyrical content and message… and YES, it was the official soundtrack for the movie DANGEROUS MINDS which was incorporated into this music video.

@@Amicy Yes, I did. If you also read my comment carefully, you’ll see that I did not fault you guys for not knowing the song. The only thing I did not make clear was that I lived in a very rural area in Nigeria when I heard that song… meaning if I could have heard the song back then, then there’s a high possibility that other rural areas in other parts of the world could have heard it too. Hence, the reason I used the word “WEIRD”
