Ive been listening to eminem for 18 years, since i was about 10 so i can see how someone might put this at 4 and not afraid at 20. Its not that not afraid isnt gold its that em has put out so much that there's plenty even better. Crazy thing about this track is that if im not mistaken, em was working at a fast food place and on his first day got fired. He went home that night and wrote this banger. This was back when eminem was literally HUNGRY and you can hear it

exactly 100 % we brazilian can relate to him because he was as poor as we are... we are not rich like you americans are... Eminem has most hits of all time from all musicians that ever lived... his list of hits is really infinite... i mean you can listen to him your whole life and you will NEVER know all his super hits he wrote. the guy is different. but we know he did the contract with the devil and will never get the respect he deserves. i mean he is not human as a rapper, he is like an alien and i think the devil helps him to be so good. it is not possible for a human to rap like he does. i mean did you ever listen to the song with joyner lucas!? i speaking Eminem feat Joyner Lucas - lucky you (video is shit but the song is unnormal)

This is number one for me. So many Em tracks are strictly about lyrics. This is so relatable for people from the struggle. That is not a common thread in his music. This song is a little more simple lyrically but, the content is through the roof. Love this song to death.

The reason for it's number one for me is he actually wrote this in 96? or 97 when the demo of it released (kinda different but you can tell it's the exact same song). It's before Dre, before fame, before riches, back when he was dead in this struggle, failing in rap battling losing out on that 500$, and climbing in through his window of his old place to try grab some belongings in a trashbag. In fact, just after Infinite flopped entirely, and around a legit suicide attempt. This is Em when he actually 100% thought rap would never work out, his only talent he felt he had, and that he would actually be living as a no-name, could have made it, rapper, trying to scrape by a living in Detroit with zero qualifications (outside of his rap ability) and no Dre machine or any money behind him. This is raw shit you can feel on a certain level if you been there. "....but they threw me in the mix with all these gloomy lunatics, who walk around depressed - and smoke a pound of cess a day, yesterday went by so quick it seems like it was just today, my daughter wants to throw the ball but I'm too stressed to play, live half my life and throw the rest away" for me on a given day is Ems most relatable and real lyrics ever, period. We all been there doing the same shit, same drugs, same people, same neighbourhood, same gloomy lunatics, who have no dreams, no ambitons, but while you feel different -- you're stuck there. And while you desperately try to maintain a low paid job, or hope a hobby (rapping in Ems case) takes off, and you're pulled between childcare, hobbies, work, sleep and hanging with the same people....man, I get it. This song always fucks me over, I only escaped that because I met a girl who lived across the country and I could abandon it all. Arguably Em's rawest song up there with Mockingbird for me, and even that was written kinda in the safety of money, but also hitting on the different issues even that caused.

LP = “Long Play” It’s synonymous with album, the “long” being the opposite of a single, which traditionally had two songs, i.e. short. Anyway, this is one of Em’s greatest deeper cuts. He was truly at his wits’ end and strongly considering giving up around this point, then was signed by Dre shortly after recording it.

Its semantics, but sp is standard play. Lp is long play and ep is extended play. It is from the old album rotation and "45" records. But sp is, like ya said, usually the 1 or 2 songs, singles were released like this. I Remember when I was a kid and bought a busta rhymes single, was so hyped cause I only had a few bucks and found this CD at sam goody and it was so cheap. Didnt read it all, never had seen an SP cd, and man I was disappointed. But I wore that disc out

I've commented a few times cause you young men for real give me hope for the next generation. This is from 1999. That's before the 9-11. Things was different. This is what broke people rocked to cause it hit us in the feels. This, Tupac, Big, that late 90s early 2000s was different. Ok this is long enough, thank yall for what you do it keeps my PTSD from 21 years in the military at bay. Keep doing it and congrats in your success

Waiting on yall to do a two parter for Kim followed by 97 Bonnie and Clyde. One of the best rhyme schemes he's ever done is Business ft Dre. Absolutely eats the beat with such fluidity and smoothness. As far as inspirational music he's done like Not Afraid, Till I Collapse and others I'd have to put Sing For The Moment up there with them.

As a 42 yo I’ve been listening to Eminem since 1998 when I was in high school…the Slim Shady LP always hits different because that’s where I started with Em. Doesn’t matter what songs anyone thinks are his best, as long as they are appreciating this man’s intellect and creativity. On a less serious note, would love to see y’all react to “Berzerk”. Pretty sure it’s the one and only time you’ll see Rick Rubin in a music video…he only did it because Em asked him to 👍

This song will always be a top 3 Em song to me. You have to look at a musical track record that long through the lens of time. Taking this song back to 99 when it was released and I was a senior in HS...as a white dude with no "real" major white rapper and being a life-long hip hop fan this was AMAZING to me. Finally a rapper that I could relate to and not feel like I'm fronting when I'm vibing and relating to his lyrics.

When I was young, living on my own in the Bronx, there were those days when I woke up needing to make a choice: go to work that day, or eat. Some days I chose to go to work. Other days I chose to eat. That's why this is in my personal Top 5 Eminem songs, and I won't object to it being listed at #4. Dreams and aspirations are fuel to the soul. But sometimes the future, even a potential one, must take a backseat to the reality of the moment and the basic needs of survival. I was lucky to find a small but tightknit group who lifted each other up, who have remained my life long friends to this day.

One of his most raw songs. Wish Em still had the hunger in him like he had back then

This is my favorite song from Em. You can tell he was hungry and oretty muc down and out. If he never made it and this was the last we heard from him, oh man. No cartoony imagery, celebrity disses or corny wordplay, just straight to the point frustration and real talk.

Storytelling, rhyme scheme, lyricism, and the passion makes this top 5 material. He was in this situation when it came out. This was the first time I heard the hunger in Eminem and knew he was special. It's no surprise to me that 24 years after this, he has the most KZbin streams in 2022

I like this song because he wrote this before Dre even knew who he was. This was the struggling version of Em and it hits with many people including me

I worked in radio when Eminem show came out. I definitely listen to his first couple of albums on the low from my parents 😆 you guys definitely need to hear his first two from start to finish. They are crazy. From some of the best lyrics to some of the darkest parts of his life, his emotions in his songs are on display. I really think that's what hit home for most of us youngster back them. He came out and said things with no filter. Dark, cool, collective, dangerous, an Einstein of rap, hip hop, poetry, and no fucks given.

Been listening to this since i was 14, I’m 42 now 😂… when I tell you when Eminem came out- he put ALL OF HIP HOP ON NOTICE!!! Consistently dropped lyrical masterpieces since then. Imo the only folks who come close to his talent are from his era.

The songs I love most by Eminem always have a lot of emotion and intense lyrics... so I can see how this would be someone's #4 song by him. Especially because it's relatable.
