I just received two Cooper Cutlery knives, the Battle Axe German Hunter, and the Weed & Co. German Hunter, both with Stag scales both very similar, and both made in 2021. Cooper definitely needs to step up the quality control if they want to compete with GEC. For now they are on par with Case, and dare I say… Rough Ryder. Cooper is just starting and I’m sure that with time will get better. On to the knives. Both have minor details in the fit and finish, scale to bolster transitions are a little rough, both show gaps between scales and frame/bolsters, as well as frame and spring. Blade centering is off by a hair on both, no half stop, and little to no wobble. Blades are somewhat sharp, highly polished with no scratches, same as the bolsters. One of them had a nick on the blade’s edge that took a few passes with the sharpening stone to correct. The spring sits flush in the open position, and a hair proud when closed. The scales themselves are beautiful (I’m a sucker for Stag), the pins are all flush, no cracks. Otherwise they seem to be solid good EDC knives, not sure about collecting value as of yet. I will definitely keep my eye on Cooper Cutlery, I hope they keep getting better and bring us more patterns to choose from. Now, keep in mind that everything I said is from a collector’s point of view. If you just want a good strong and practical knife to EDC and beat the crap out of, none of these details matter. I’m sure our grandfathers didn’t care about any of that.

Why let this out the door ? It seems to be a case (no pun intended ) of ship what we have and we will tighten up Q.C. later . They start out with high standards and then the compromises start. It's A shame. Great Video. Peace , Be Free.

I would give my hunter a big "MEH" at very best. There is a Crack in each cover from end to end and they do not fit that well. The blade is way to one side when in the blade well and it has a lot of wobble when open. The blade is also very thick behind the edge. I was hoping for another great American slip joint manufacturer but they have a long way to go.

I don't mind 440 on a knife like this. There's definitely a lot of better steels, but it just isn't a big factor for me on this one.

Yes I have the Mountain Man. Much nicer! I haven’t gotten one yet but all reports seem to show that the 2024 knives are REALLY nice!

I still wish them well but remain less than impressed. It appears they vibratory hone the crap out of the blades like Case does which will make it virtually impossible to get that perfect blade to backspring fit like a GEC. I don't think the shields are pinned, which is a shame as well. There's really no excuse for your knife to leave the factory with that machining mark. That's a classic "it's good enough" mindset which will lead to bankruptcy.

I know it sounds weird.🤣 but you know that shine on the blades of a rough rider knife? Like a good shine, then where they hone the edge, it's kinda murky shiny right above the grind.

Just one more thing sir! (Columbo) The nickle silver has a yellowish tint. Indicative of Chinese nickle silver. I just think that these knives are Chinese materials assembled in winchester Ohio.
