Can you really get arrested for flipping off and yelling an expletive to a police officer??
In this “COP REACTS” video, I break down a recently released dash camera video of a Vermont State Trooper arresting Greg Bombard for yelling an expletive and flipping the trooper off.
Sit back and watch as I give and explain my thoughts (as a police officer) on the incident.
*TLDR version - although Vermont statute technically makes the action “illegal”, the US Constitution and US Supreme Court case laws says it’s not illegal. This trooper should have let it go and move on.*

Just another thought. Cop should not have to look up basic laws, especially the ones at the enforce every day. Too many people are arrested because the cop doesn’t know the law and ends up, having to sort it out in court, which takes up everybody’s time and money, except for the Officer . It’s time to abolish qualify immunity to officers that act on what they think, and not act on the actual laws. Ignorance is no excuse for not knowing the law but yet many officers have no clue of the laws they are enforcing.

You see that’s the problem cops looking for a reason to pull people over when they don’t have a reason to. I mean you can’t condone the cop looking for a reason to pull him over after he flicked off the Officer. You need to do some soul-searching, and maybe find another profession

I like your breakdown and appreciate the input from the cops' standpoint. My video opinion: alot of Maine cops tend to be assholes anyways, so I learned in the 3 years I lived there. One swore just because my husband had big veins that he did drugs even though he had no track marks at all and made him get out of the car And go behind it in a completely unfounded traffic stop, where he proceeded to hound him incessantly about the drugs he was supposedly doing before giving it up and letting him go. By unfounded, I mean there was literally no reason to stop him, nor did the officer provide any reasoning. Also state of Virginia, where I live now made a similar arrest recently. This case where for the officer overhearing someone using profanity while on the phone🤦

@@georgecraytin9838 first off, I’m not a cop! I’m a ER Trauma nurse and I’ve been assaulted at work on several occasions, had ribs broken by a drug addict who couldn’t get drugs, spit on by patients with mental health issues, kicked and hit by a patient who was suffering from severely low blood sugar levels and as he was kicking and hitting me, I had to start an IV so I could administer an amp of D50 to bring his sugar level up and jumped on by a patient who was high and felt he was waiting too long so he jumped over the counter! So you’re right about other professions also being dangerous! However had it not been for the police officers working the ER, I know for a fact that myself and my coworkers who were attacked would’ve been hurt much worse! But to say a police officers job is not dangerous has obviously never been called out to a fake call just to be ambushed and killed, had someone walk up to their car and shoot them just because they were a police officer; ran into a burning home to save an elderly person or a child or ran into a building with an active shooter! Yes, there was a school shooting where a cop who was on scene but because he was a coward or was too afraid, didn’t enter the school right away and because of his actions, more kids were either injured or killed! 2nd - I’m not saying that every cop is a good cop!! As in every profession, you have good ones and bad ones! Just as they’re good nurses and bad nurses, etc.. I know I will bust my ass to help save a patient in cardiac arrest or bleeding out from a gunshot or stab wounds, where there are a few nurses who won’t break a sweat to perform chest compressions or even bother holding a patient’s hand to comfort them as they took their last breath! As I previously said, everyone is entitled to their opinions and it doesn’t mean I’m right and you’re wrong or I’m wrong and you’re right, we just have to agree to disagree!!

@@georgecraytin9838First off, I’m not a cop, I’m a ER Trauma nurse of 30 years! I’m not saying there aren’t bad cops but there’s a hell of a lot more good cops than bad ones! A lot of professions can be dangerous, for example in my career in the ER as a trauma nurse, I’ve been attacked and had ribs broken from being violently pushed into the crash cart by a drug addict who was high and looking for more drugs! I’ve been jumped on by a man who jumped over the counter because he was told he had to wait to be seen because we were in the middle of a code; I’ve been spit on by mentally unstable patients, kicked and hit by people who were brought in by the police with fake complaints because they thought if they came to the hospital they wouldn’t be arrested and I thank God for the officers who worked in the ER! I’ve also treated police officers and other first responders hurt or shot in the line of duty! I can clearly tell that your are anti-police but I bet the next time someone tries to break in your house or pulls a gun on you or one of your family members, the 1st call you’re going to make is to 911 for the police to come to your aid!! If you don’t think a cops job is dangerous, then why don’t you put on the bulletproof vest, the 10 pounds of gear they have to wear and go run into a situation where there’s an active shooter or respond to a call about a nonexistent lost child just so someone can ambush you and try to kill you just because you wear a badge?!?

There was no legal basis for the original stop in the first place. I would not stop, cite, or even make contact, let alone arrest an individual that displayed the bird in my general direction. I would do one of these three, I would wave, say how's it going or just ignore them depending on what I was doing at the time. I am also, not from Vermont. Even if I was from Vermont, I would not push this issue. Officer discretion. This Trooper has an ego problem. This happens to every cop. If he can't handle it he needs to loosen his ego.

First of all, how can a state get a law on the books that is in direct violation of the first amendment ? Freedom of speech trumps saying a bad ( obscene) word in public right? It would be different to threaten someone with violence . Possibly disturbing the peace if he was screaming at the top of his lungs . That law should be re written with some more clarity.

States pass unconstitutional laws all the time and attentive constituents catch it and sue. Politicians sometimes think we, the people, don’t monitor what they’re doing to ensure it’s constitutional. The legislature in Vermont definitely needs to write a better, more specific violation as this current law seems unconstitutional
