Because they basically rolled it's not their job in 1981 I don't know if the court back then was more Republican or Democrat but I'm pretty sure they revisited a case close in 2017 when Ruth was still on so it was a split and they still rolled it's not their job to protect and serve , maybe you should be more ticked off about the 1967 decisions that gave police officers and judges immunity to civil rights lawsuits considering both cases involved racist cops and racist judges arresting black people in recently desegregated States they granted these immunities to protect these racist cops and judges from civil rights lawsuits

My son has autism, when he was 9, he climbed up into the top cabinet and got a hold of an epi pen and shot it into his thumb. He was having trouble breathing and freaking out. I called 911 and told them that. 911 asked if I needed cops. I told them no, he's scared! They came anyway! I had to shield my son and shove the cops off him!! EMS was my saving grace! POS cussed us an tried to hirt my baby! I so wish I knew our rights back then! I did get him fired later on. I caught him sleeping in his car running in our subdivision one night, took a video of him, and took it to the chief! Keep cops away from our babies!!

My son has autism. He was also 9 in 2005 when the agency that the school had contracted with to help him instead physically restrained him and called the cops who handcuffed him. THEN I was called. We had to pay an attorney to make sure this wouldn’t come back on him later in life. It’s still something he talks about. There was another police incident later where they called me immediately and I was able to talk to them and explain his situation. But why not when he was 9 and having a rough time with his tutor?

Back in 1980, I was in the Principal’s office, volunteering. (I was in junior high.) I witnessed a black CHILD, a little girl that I knew, being manhandled by police, handcuffed, and then given a SHOT IN HER ARM to calm her down… and no one did anything to help her. She wasn’t even a bad kid! The office workers and Principal supported those cops! Her rights were completely violated, and I’ve never forgotten it. It traumatized me, and made me very nervous about cops. (Plus, I never volunteered again. I lost trust for everyone in that school.) This has been going on for far too long! But it gets swept under the rug. It needs to STOP! It doesn’t make children respect police officers. It causes them to distrust police, and become even more rebellious. And the thing is… it wasn’t even necessary! They could’ve talked to him (and HER) in a gentle manner, not immediately thrown him down and cuffed him, because… he’s a CHILD! A MINOR! I am embarrassed FOR police officers. They think, because they carry a badge, that laws don’t apply to them. And unfortunately, in many circumstances, the ‘powers that be’ allow them to perpetuate that false narrative.

They'd fear repercussions. These cops clearly feared nothing. Hell, they even talked to the school employees (teachers, admins, etc.) like shit and clearly didn't give a flying fck that it would get back to their superiors. It did and nothing happened.

The problem is the cop dept found no fault in the cop's behaviour. They are the ones that are criminals, allowing such acts to continue without any restraint. Cops are nearly all bullies; that's why they are in the police force, to legally bully people and throw their weight around to feel important (instead of ugly, unpleasant and fat). So if they are allowed to, they will act this way.

The family should not have to sue. An independent federal entity, completely detached from police and normal courts and judges should investigate and have special courts judging all these cases. And the investigations should go as high up as needed within the police. The most disgusting thing in this case is the chief say the cop did nothing wrong. One unfit officer is a small issue affecting few unfortunate souls that can be easily dealt with and addressed. An ethically and morally corrupt chief is an issue for everyone, and can only lead to things getting worse.
