I don't mind football league clubs having sponsors on the back as they can do with extra money and it doesn't really hurt anyone. But I really don't like the idea of sleeve sponsorship at any level. @Mack.Flurry37 жыл бұрын
A sponsorless option will come at a cost though. They will likely have to take less money from their sponsor at that point. Will the increase of shirt sales make up the difference in lost sponsorship. Also, keep in mind this doesn't take into account that many people like or don't care that there are sponsors on the shirts and still buy them anyway. Most clubs would likely be leaving money on the table by selling sponsorless options along side the sponsored versions.

I really don't get how people complain about the money that's pumped into football. Think about it, every source of entertainment, including football, comes at a price. And everyone who pays that price, the "consumers", are effectively giving money to football clubs. We're left with a choice of paying nothing and seeing nothing, or paying to watch. And most of us choose the latter option. We as fans collectively fund each and every transfer that happens. Money's a part of the modern game, so if you don't like it but you're still watching football, you're only aiding something you don't want to see. That's not very clever, is it?
@Mack.Flurry37 жыл бұрын
Jake Horwood, you sir, understand capitalism.
@clayneid6 жыл бұрын
Jake Horwood - The thing is, many of us fans watch it because it's what our parents, their parents, and their parents watched. It's a way of having community with your local (or ancestral) homeland or region and showing pride of the community. Also, so much of the football money comes from advertisers... who are now who the teams answer to, not the fans. It's one thing to give a team your money and them have a vested interest in doing what you want them to... and another for the teams to be making most of their money from advertisers and instead being more worried about appealing to corporate senses than community senses. That is where the major breakdown happens to me. I support Napoli and Portsmouth, because those are the two teams I have the closest ties to (and St. Johnstone in Scotland, but only recently learned of that heritage), and I realise that money is the way of the modern game... but at the same time, both of those teams also do alot of things right for me. Napoli's players have proven to be extremely loyal; Hamsik has been courted by big teams with big money offers for years and he has turned them down because he loves the city, Koulibaly, Callejon, Mertens, etc. have all also turned down big moves to stay with Napoli, and of course you have the local boy Insigne. That is how football "should" be... even if money is a big factor, you should have a community of players instead of a bunch of mercenary employees that leave the first chance they get to make more money. And at the end of the day, the team does enough to show that it is first and foremost a team for Napoli. As for Portsmouth... they learned that money cant buy you everything, and are now in the third division slowly building their way up through smart business and improving their infrastructure. They aren't blowing massive money on players but instead are living modestly and slowly improving their infrastructure to work their way up. There aren't foreign fans coming to see games, they aren't changing everything to appeal to Chevy or Lotto or whoever... it's just smart business and slowly working your way up.

Better than a break in play dedicated for adverts. Plus, when done right, shirt sponsors become iconic. If I tell you to think of companies such as SHARP, JVC, Newcastle Brown Ale, Carlsberg or Jeep in a footballing context, you likely will know what team I'm talking about, as these sponsors typically correlate with very successful periods in their respective clubs histories, or with iconic, classic kits.

@kopfkino91016 жыл бұрын
I think the value of a kit sponsor will not increase if you add more sponsor logos on the kit. I follow swedish club football and in sweden there's a trend of less kitsponsors. Having more than seven kitsponsors or so it's not unusual in sweden. Allthough many clubs have realised that the sponsors get less exponation sharing space with others. It's harder to remember Chevrolet for an example if there's other logos on the same kit. So now many clubs in Sweden get better deals selling exclusive exponation rights on the kit. So I wouldnt think that more kit sponsors in the premier league is the way to go for more revenue.
@h3nder7 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't care.Some adds actually look nice on kits and who knows?I think the Chevy logo makes our kit a bit nicer.Plus if it is going to help small teams afford better players it means they will play more interesting football and we might have a 7th prem winner this season.Who knows maybe Liverpool or Everton win it but maybe Hudesfields little cash boost allows them to go on and do a Leicester.

Advertising doesn't bother me too much. Sure, some look awful, but that's usually the only downside. I support Man City, but I've never flown with Etihad, nor will I buy Nexen tyres because they sponsor our sleeves and a bridge outside the stadium. Same with Tag Heuer sponsoring the Premier League clocks during games. It's just promoting a brand... the companies pay enough to have their brand recognised and we get better players joining our league. (I would like to see ticket prices lowered, but that's a different argument entirely.)

I feel as though the front sponsor should be the uefa sizing across the board. In the league of Ireland we have front, shoulder, and lower back sponsors as well as sleeves and it just ruins the kits imo.
@michiadams7 жыл бұрын
This isn't too bad. You have to find a balance in sponsorship to get in good money and still have the kits look nice. If you compare theses kits to some Ligue 1 or Austrian Bundesliga clubs, this is nothing. Some kits are just plastered with sponsors, which makes them really ugly. In the Bundesliga sleve sponsors are now allowed too, and the tight regulations against betting companies and politically questionable countries seem more lenient. While Gazprom for Schalke used to be the only sponsor really bending the rules now for example my club Bayern have sponsoring from a qatary airport on their sleves. Those weird betting companies and other questionable sponsors have already taken over other leagues, but especially for the Bundesliga regualtions like this mean trouble.
@w1nterS0ldier177 жыл бұрын
It will affect the look of the shirts. In my opinion is bad. And I come from SouthAmerica where sponsorship like this has been applied. The shirts look ugly as hell. Just with a bunch of brands around everywhere on the kits. It's a horrible decision that will affect big leagues like the EPL in the future. Of course as opposed to SouthAmerica, clubs need the money and they do not earn as much as an EPL team would. They should just change it back. If they allow this now, it will slowly be allowed in other places too

Times change. A legendary captain and world champion of my nation once nearly resigned football for protesting against ads on the shirt but that was in the 50s today football is different. As a South American I don't mind this, to me the worst thing the English did was demolishing Wembley that would be unforgivable in my country, but a couple of ads in my team's jersey... What's the big deal?

Let them fill the shirts with whatever they want but lower the ticket price so more working class ppl and kids could be on the terraces. Keep the balance!

In the long run with I think it'll be good for championship clubs. Allows them more cash to compete if they get promoted, and help stay afloat if religated.

I agree with some of the below, South American style shirts are cool and side sponsorship is better than more tv ad's.

If an f1 car has no sponsors on it, fans think somethings wrong.

I do remember as a 4 year old in 1979 that I was not impressed with shirt sponsorship. As the years passes I became OK but with the current state I feel there is over kill with certain clubs right now

Lol, this is nothing compared to some teams here in Belgium. Look up the Sporting Club de Charleroi or the Sporting Lokeren kit. It's completely filled with advertisements.
