Detroit has become a battleground for the soul of American soccer. With a wildly successful 4th division team enjoying grassroots success and an investment group eager to bring professional soccer to the Motor City,
Formerly KICK, we have joined the COPA90 family to become COPA90 US where we are North America’s voice in the global soccer conversation. From weekly shows like Walk Talk Football to documentaries that take us all over the world, we are here to share how football feels and passionately tell the stories no one else does, in our region and beyond. This is the soccer generation that we're building together.

If the MLS, NASL, USL just got together and came to an agreement to establish themselves as 1st, 2nd and 3rd divisions and implement a relegation/promotion system - this country would dominate and become more competitive in *world football*

It would be great would make the MLS be in conversation with other European leagues. Unfortunately club owners have agreed to not have a regelation I think it stemmed down to ownership and money. Root of it all.. capitalism

Not necessarily. It’s important to remember just how much of a distance MLS is from the other leagues. USL is running on finances much more similar to non-league. Any relegation from mls to USL would bankrupt a club. It’s just far too big of a risk for a sport that has been growing so well in its current form for over 25 years

What I really appreciate about this club is how genuine it is. With football in the US it’s so manufactured, it’s cookie cutter really. There’s no soul behind it, just millionaires and billionaires who only care about making money. DCFC got it out the fucking mud it looks like, and it’s why the authenticity of this club cannot be questioned. Their involvement with the club and the community is exactly what club football is all about. After all, the club is a reflection of the community itself. Look at all the great clubs of the world. Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern, Borussia Dortmund. So many others I’m missing, all direct representations of the communities and areas they’re in. So fucking awesome to see this in US football. In a world of fakes and pretenders, DCFC got it right. Cheers.

This is what a football club should look like, it grows organically with time, people of the surrounding community start to feel passionate and somewhat part of the club which brings them together. This is pretty much the same story as every club in every major football country and league around the world, its pretty cool to see it in the US, to see a club bring people together without even the "hope" of being able to get promoted and go through the leagues to the promised land (MLS) is amazing and sad at the same time, being able to go through those emotions of euphoria by going up a league or sorrow of not making it is a large part of our game and its quite sad that the structure in the US is pretty much in favor of people buying they're way into the top league which doesn't help a club or its fans feel as passionate as they do about some of the lower clubs which grew organically with a fan base that cares more about the community and the impact of the club on it rather than seeing older players coming over for a pay day and fun in the sun, for US football to really be considered as a major player in this sport it has to bring in promotion and relegation. this will even help the development of players, like they say in England a player doesn't really develop until he plays against "men" who are playing for their livelihood and their mortgages which usually happens in the lower leagues this doesnt mean just send them out on loan to a club who might just fight for the league it also means sending them to a club that is struggling to stay in the league and when people who work for the club depend on results for their job (club employees) its a different kind of pressure which really does change a player and the person who is being developed. sorry for the rambling but i do feel passionately about soccer in the US, even though i'm not American i can see the potential and have been a for more than ten years now, i'm sure if i can feel this passionately about the sport that i love and many others love which i can see from your videos there must be a solution to this problem or US soccer unfortunately will be stuck in mediocracy forever. A message to anybody who disagrees with me. I understand that the American mindset is all about business and profits but soccer was never meant to be like that, all these giant soccer clubs became HUGE because of their history, many clubs have gone bankrupt in Europe and probably many will go bankrupt in the future but at the end of the day soccer is meant to be enjoyed and being part of a larger league with promotion and relegation gives fans and players more chance to enjoy this game that we all love and also gives clubs a fair opportunity to show their creativeness on how they compete with other clubs that richer than they are.

It's part of a globalist/UN propaganda campaign to better control the world's human population. If you have the power to create friction between people you can control them. These globalist types know that singling out very small groups of people for promotion it will irritate others. This is also true in race relations. Instead of increasing comity it increases friction between groups. This allows for more rules/laws/control and less freedom. Not unlike the Olympics soccer/football has been used as the circus part of the bread and circus philosophy governments have used for eons to control their idiot masses.

i think the video is somewhat unfair to MLS fans, fan groups like the Cauldron in KC, the Iron Lions and Ruckus in Orlando, fan groups in Toronto, even the 3252 of LAFC are just as passionate as these guys, MLS has recognized the fans. Just because a team is big doesn't mean the fans aren't a part of the club, and being small doesn't necessarily make you niche. Now that being said, Detroit City FC is a great club and they have great fans, and it would be great to see that team and that group in the MLS, but that can't come about without steady financial backing and better facilities. There is no reason why Detroit CIty FC can't be an MLS team and keep its homegrown feel, but there is no reason to hate on MLS for wanting to put another team there if they can't come to an agreement with Detroit City FC. I hope that if Detroit gets an MLS team that everyone included can come to an agreement about the club including: new owners, Detroit City FC and the Northern Guard.

From what I have seen I don't see how MLS has ruined it for Orlando, the club there I feel has done a great job with the fanatical standing section allowing the supporters to maintain the atmosphere and being a one entity league I would think that MLS would have had some say in that

I totally get that, I love what NG do and what DCFC do, I think there would probably be a way for both sides to work together, but both will have to make concessions and surely as supporters they want to bring their style to more people and get more people to love soccer the way they do and surely MLS's reach can help with that. I just don't think taking a stand against MLS helps them in the long run.

I see a lot of people calling these fans "cringy". Most people here just don't get it. Football/Soccer is passionate sport. It's not like american football or basketball where most people are simply bandwagons. There's more "passion' even in college sports than in Pro sports in the US. I went to a Barcelona game in Dallas at the Cowboys stadium and we started a chant and some man told us to sit down, I was like wtf this is not a library this is Football/Soccer. Most people are not used to this culture, and now that we have it in the MLS they simply call it "cringe". Most Americans just don't get it and yes, I am American.

Americans loved soccer back in the 1920s. That love was renewed in the mid-1960s, through the 1970s with the NASL & the ASL. It grew too much and collapsed in the early 1980s, re-started with the 1994 World Cup & MLS, stumbled again, but had grown since.

And what would soccer be without them. Jut like you'd watch a game without the sound being turned on. They might not pay that much attention to the game, but have you never been wondering how players can get such a high morale thanks to them ? They help DCFC win the matches

While I truly admire you guys for doing much with so little resources, I hate to admit that MLS in the long run is your best option for the future...the teams that you play each year vary because they change so much and going into MLS will provide stability for Detroit City FC....good luck with your future!!!!

I wish the ownership and the Northern Guard would adopt a open mind on being a part of a real MLS bid. The hipsters and fans that have never invested in soccer as youth and never support kids in the real aspects of grassroots soccer think the deserve a "club" in their trying real hard image of being unique. Hint.... you're not different. Passion is not unique, it should be a shared way to bring a great club to market and to our city. It's not about being saved. That's some BS invented perspective by the NG around why other markets want to be MLS franchises. Meanwhile, I can't take a 5 and a 8 year-old to a game because of the profanity laden songs and "pretend" thuggery the NG needs to show they are "a different breed". Who invests, what their motivation in isn't important - you can merge culture and passion with a real business that drives commercial and grassroots success. They aren't mutually exclusive.

I love what detroit city has done for soccer in michigan but i still want an mls team and honestly i think the only reason they are so convinced itd be terrible is that theyd have competition. Also why cant new teams ever be original with names lol if the mls team is detroit united or some other generic name im going to be so pissed 😂

They're thought that an MLS team would be terrible is true for them. The MLS won't allow flares, smoke bombs, chants that include swearing, etc. The northern guard isn't family friendly. MLS wants to be family friendly more than anything

The MLS should go to Ann Arbor, they have the MLS attitude. Detroit City is not MLS, its special because the kids that dont get paid and play because they love the game, the fans respect them even more for that. Local beer, fowling, smoke, swearing, and real fan base is what make DCFC great.

If they're happy with the way they are, that's fine. This is as big as they'll ever get. They're not all that inclusive either. I don't find them that "cringy" per say, but I think they've got inflated egos. Their club will never truly grow and MLS is the only option which means losing a lot of your supporter group. They're a blip, and they'd better be happy being a blip.

Juan Ramirez because it's not what our city needs at this point. Not when we already have a passionate club. What good does a billionaire buying public land and using TAX PAYER money do for a city which is yes on the come up but still not in a great situation financially
@huamanJR
@huamanJR 7 жыл бұрын
More teams can compete in the city it's really up to the casuals and who they want to follow. NG choose their team, now others can choose other teams. I don't see a issue, managing a team is a business foremost you compete to win fans over. If someone comes in with money well guess what time to step up your game; simple as that.

Mate this is what business people do, every team is about competing for fans. You can always oppose their ideas by going to the city meetings and letting the mayor know not to use tax payers money, but at the end of the day; it's a business, a ideology of what you create. Competition is what it is. Fans decide it at the end of the day.
