I'm not from the Pacific Northwest, so I never understood why I was supposed to hate Portland Timbers as a Seattle Sounders fan, and then they eliminated the Seattle Sounders during playoffs, and at that moment, I decided I hated them too. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't hate the individual players, I think that they all have positive attributes, but I hate the team. Before that, I was largely indifferent, so long as they lost against the Sounders. Now I want them to lose every game they play.

The love they have for the team, the chants, the tifos and flags, the log and songs traditions, I love it all! The 2015 MLS cup was the first one I got the chance to watch (I live in Europe so timezones are a problem) and honestly, despite obvious not liking the fact the Timbers won, I still enjoyed the hell of that game and respected the passion that some Timbers players showed. If you acknowledge that this rivalry has history going back to the '70's, then you HAVE to acknowledge that Seattle has FIVE league titles and Portland only has 1. Seattle has 2 A-League titles, 2 USL titles, and 1 MLS title. Portland ONLY has 1 MLS title. So no, Portland weren't first to win the league. Seattle was, between these two clubs, and Vancouver was the first Cascadia club overall to win a league title when they won the NASL title. You can't pick and choose which parts of history you're going to acknowledge and which parts youre going to ignore. If you acknowledge the footballing history in Cascadia, and not just the MLS history, then Seattle is the far more dominant club.

Come on, MLS. You know for a fact that the biggest rivalry in North America is América vs Chivas. América vs chivas has more history than the MLS. Not to say Portland vs Seattle isn't a great rivalry, but saying it's the best in North America regarding football (the s word football) is a gigantic stretch. And if by North America you mean US and Canada, then just call it the best rivalry in the MLS, which is, for a fact, US and Canada.
