How Jack Warner Stole Millions (And Possibly Sent USA to the World Cup)

Amid all of FIFA's scandals, none is more colorful than the rise & fall of Jack Warner. As the defamed Trinidadian fights extradition to the U.S. and a $50 million lawsuit from CONCACAF, George Quraishi of Howler Magazine visited Warner's home island to find out what locals make of the former FIFA VP. Is he a Robin Hood, or Sepp's sickest sidekick? Quraishi learns, despite all the money Warner stole over two decades, credible Trinidadians believe his biggest crime may have involved selling out his own country in a 1989 World Cup qualifier against the United States-a game that stands as the most important victory in U.S. history. If these suspicions are correct, it would mean that everything that came after was built on the back of an epic, World Cup-sized fraud.

Many more untold stories... We were supposed to qualify in Costa Rica. Jack made sure a winning line up not be used. All Costa Rican news papers had Philbert Jones as the threat... the one who scored... Did he start against Costa Rica again...hell no, a bunch of "shit hounds" started that line up.

It'' sad but both sides are right .I was 10 years old trying to go to that game and from what I can remember, so many people could not get in the game because of overcrowding that country was behind to team just like Panama during the last world cup cycle (losing to the US). Winning that game , help the US where I live now but , the lost for Trinidad was much more than that . the game was played 19 November 1989 , and what happen less than a year later . Jamaat al Muslimeen coup attempt July 27 to the 1st of Aug. 1990 (right after the world cup ). yes, the 1990 world cup was over , but don't you think the country would have had something to unite about if Trinidad played in that world cup . MAYBE we ill never know some can say Trinidad would have lost all their games but the same can be said about the USA going 0-3 in the group stage . It is just speculation that the US had to win the match and Jack Warner and referees were in on underming T&T's chances of winning the game. What is clear though that the decision to parade the players in boiling hot sun for such a distance was an attrocious one and the decision of the referee not to award a penalty was also bad. Also that Jack Warner over all hurt T&T football was just simply a fact.
