This is why Messi is the goat. Imagine being loved all over the world, but in his own country, it's only on the condition that he wins a world cup. He had the hardest task in world football and he executed like a stone cold finisher.

As a Bangladeshi, I couldn't have been happier. I was waiting for this day from 2010, since i was 10 years old. Talking about superstition, everyone was doing everything they can. I was also the same, even though i am an engineering student and believe in science and logic, i did not wear the Argentine jersey for a whole month because the first match they lost, i was wearing one. When i stopped wearing, they kept winning. So yeah, looks like it worked😂. Anyway, very happy to see Bangladesh being loved so much in Argentina and also the fact that it showed up in this video. We love you all.

I'm Bangladeshi. I experienced my first heartbreak during the worldcup '06 when Argentina lost against Germany in the penalty shootout. I was six years old and crying so much after the match. My Dad hugged me and consoled me. I cried the same after the final in worldcup '22. My dad hugged me again. But this time, the reason was completely different. That final completed my cycle as an Argentina football fan.

A so now I must say this: This is the apex of what Eli has managed to contribute to the alternative football scene. I sincerely want to thank him for bringing into light the most beautiful side of this wonderful phenom we call football. This episode is not about the sport, it’s a sociological exploration of a country, and the extent to which football can move its population. Football will always belong to the people. Although we are not one nation, the joy and connection we feel when Argentina wins is incredible, and we genuinely love the team from the bottom of our hearts. When Argentina won the World Cup in 2022, Bangladesh went wild with celebrations across the country. I am Argentinian and football is overrated. Just a cheap passing emotion which is compared to eating a good chocolate or having an orgasm. I wish we could channel that passion for a greater cause. But no. It's always cheering for a bunch of rich people kicking a ball. Oh well...
@urimacchiavello6989 күн бұрын
@@DepressedCapitalist true, but, have you asked yourself why that is? “Why do I get so f#%n emotional over some stupid game that’s not gonna fix my day to day problems, I mean this players won’t pay my rent, nothing in my life is gonna change weather they win or loose. So why is it that it hits us so deep??? I hate football for that exact reason, because I’m Argentinian and I live far away from my culture, and every time my team platense plays I can’t help it to curse aloud or yell at the tv or sometimes even cry, like recently when platense came back to the first division. Ask yourself that question and see what you come up with, personally I don’t think is a cultural thing, I think is a human thing, a condition, and I hate it, but I cannot change it, and neither can you
@DepressedCapitalist9 күн бұрын
@@urimacchiavello698 Yo tambien soy Argentino. I've asked that question many times. The answer is always the same. And it's ugly. Whether we like it or not, we are controlled by a simple sport. We have put all our passion into a fruitless sport. We have been living worse and worse since the return of democracy. All governments fuc... us, old citizens are dying, poverty keeps rising, insecurity is rampant, the cost of living is outrageous, high prices make essential things accesible only to a few. And yet, we don't complain. We keep paying taxes and watching football. Governments know we are sheep. The last time we were all in the streets was not to complain about how we live and force authorities to do something. No, it was in the obelisco to celebrate a football game. We are cursed with the fruitless, insignificant passion of football. Abrazo mi amigo.
@urimacchiavello6989 күн бұрын

Love from a Bulgarian man here that has always been a Barca fan supporting Messi in every competition possible. This video and the past ones brought me to tears so manny times because it has allowed the Argentinian people to finally show their love for Messi after he grabbed the Word cup by the scruff of the neck and brought back the world cup for his people. This video has also shown me how emotional the people of Argentina are and has shown me how passionate people are about the game that I love. I remember the 2014 final and the heartbreak that i had then even at the age of 10 back then it was my first world cup that i had actively watched and I didn’t realise how hard it would actually be to get to the world cup final. The 2018 world cup elimination had me crying again, they were tears that I couldn’t explain to my friends and my mum because they don’t watch football and dont understand how emotional and passionate I am about this game. I was truly happy when Messi finally won an international trophy for Argentina in 2021 but I couldn’t imagine what was about to go down at the 2022 world cup. I love this sport and Argentina forever. I hope that by watching this documentary, they'll understand why I wanted Argentina, and therefore football, to win that day, and why I went through the same emotional rollercoaster as Argentinians. 💙🤍⚽

This documentary explains Argentina like nothing I have seen. Notice I don't say only Argentinean football, but Argentina as a whole. That final was EVERYTHING. When the final penalty went in, I went onto my knees, I thanked God, and I dedicated the win to my grandparents, who I felt in the room with me, physically. I think every Argentinean understands this, I think every Argentinean dedicated this win to a loved one who has passed, who they either experienced 1978 and 1986 with, or who told them about it. It's something too powerful for words to explain. It doesn't matter if you like football or not. For every single Argentinean this was a national cause. For two or three days, like hasn't happened before or since, social differences, political divisions, were irrelevant. In every city, town or village, everyone from the children to the grandparents went to the street together to celebrate, to embrace, to release from years of frustration, not just of football but the whole situation of the country. Not even in 1978 or 1986 was there anything like that, in just Buenos Aires 5 million people tried to go the Obelisc to celebrate, I don't know if any football game in hitory has seen a reaction like this. Long term did the society change because of this? No. Possibly the hard work and humility of the "Scaloneta" expressed a new ethos tof a younger generation compared to previous Argentine values, and helped to popularize this. But did this game lead to any economic or political difference that would not have happened anyway? No. But that is besides the point. The moment will be with all of us forever, whatever else will happen. The memory of seeing what our parents and grandparents saw, of seeing the hwole country proud and united, of the good honest people together int he streets wihtout fear of gangs or politicians, of the young people with their dreams having an example to be proud instead of being ashamed or angry of the country, that is the mirror of what Argentina can be, and whatever will happen in the future, we saw this example and we will not forget it.

I'm an Indian, I was so emotional with this victory for Leo. I cried with every win and the most after the final. But to see the Argentina perspective and what Messi really meant to them earlier and after that one Montiel penalty is so stupid and illogical. But that's what Argentina is, now he's their God along Diego. Had teary eyes watching this, great work Copa90, probably one of the best documentaries I'll ever see

@tarunnagra36399 күн бұрын

I’m from Pakistan and was studying in Sweden at the time. I’ve been an Argentina fan since my father told me about Maradona and 86 as he heard it on radio. I suffered with the team in 06’ 10’ 11’… 2014 hurt the most. But in a small Swedish city of Uppsala in a small bar surrounded by French students I remember weeping like a child on my knees & the best part two people (one from india and other a South American) came to hug me i didn’t know any of them. Then I called my dad and told him… you told me about maradona 86 I’ll tell my kids about Messi and 22. Thank you Copa 90 for this beautiful documentary

I've been watching Eli and Copa90 for 12 years. I have loved everything that Eli has made. But this series is, without hyperbole, the greatest piece of football journalism I have ever consumed. I have never watched anything that has made me feel the range of emotions that this series did. The 2 year wait for this series was absolutely worth it. Eli, THANK YOU for sharing your passion and your gift of football storytelling with us.

I'm a Nigerian, Messi has hurt in the WC alot 😂 but 18th December 2022 I rooted for Messi to win He deserves it I'm sure, that day they were Frenchmen who wanted Argentina to win because of Messi😅😅

Argentinian here, I watched the whole series and every single episode has brought me to tears, especially this one. Just remembering the nerves, every emotion felt from start to finish that day. Watched the whole WC with friends at my place, we sat at the same places every game, sang the anthem stood up and watched every penalty kick hugged as if we were players at the middle of the pitch. The moment Montiel scored the penalty, all I could think about was my 8 year old self, crying while my father hugged both me and my sister the day we lost against Germany back in 2014. While my friends ran out of my house to celebrate in the streets, I stayed inside crying and messaging my family through tears of joy, I had finally seen my national team, Messi, win a World Cup. Thank you for posting this.

Not all Argentines had the same opinion as those two unpleasant people who you interviewed. I'm 28 y/o and I grew up with people my age who loved Messi. When I was about 9 years old, my dad showed him to me on TV and said: look, he will be the best player in the world and he's Argentine. I remember my chest filling with pride. He is my idol. And he was before he won the WC. I thank him for the beautiful person he always was and I will cry tears of blood when I have to see him retire from the national team.I don't know of anything else than Messi in argentina. I can't imagine us without him. I know that most Argentines love and respect him. You are speaking with a minority.

That is exactly what he was saying though. For the people that lived the days of Maradona and 86", and what that represented, Messi needed to win the World Cup. For people your age, he was everything winning or not.

I’m not even Argentinian, but watching this video has overwhelmed me with emotion, bringing me to tears. Argentina and Messi truly deserved to win the World Cup-not only because of their history with two previous titles but because their victory in 2022, in such a dramatic and thrilling manner, was extraordinary. The people of Argentina and fans worldwide endured incredible tension and heart-stopping moments throughout the match. Messi solidified his status as the GOAT, but Emi Martínez delivered the save of a lifetime in the dying minutes of extra time, denying Kolo Muani’s golden opportunity, along with another brilliant stop during the penalty shootout. In 1986, Diego Maradona relied on Jorge Burruchaga and José Luis Brown to secure the win against West Germany. Similarly, Messi needed Emi Martínez and Di María to seal their triumph as the champions of the FIFA 2022 World Cup.

You don't see the sociological problems of these people!?! The hive mind mentality and borderline psychosis! This country would never be ready to compete in the 21st century! Countries are moving onto AI, space travel, quantum computing, and robotics. And these people are willing to shoot each other for a soccer match! Don't you worry how easy can be distracted, manipulated and deceived just by a soccer ball because they think they can't compete on anything else!? Doesn't that worry you!?
