What is beginning to happen at places like Copart and other places like auctions is they are letting inside certain slippery (shaded) kinds of ppl that see these less expensive unfortunate cars on those lots and they cut wires to discourage other buyers from bidding on & purchasing the cars. That is exactly what happened to your Pontiac. Some slimey creep cut those wires. I can tell ya that from my own endeavors with this shit. I have seen cars 4-5 days prior to auction they act run fine and inspect look for all that shit because I have found stuff like prior to buying one and after buying on auction lots. It really pisses ya off when ya know it was deliberately done to the car. It's been 2 times now when I seen who I was bidding against on these certain pieces I would walk over to em and ask em to leave if not we were gonna have a problem. Twice now since I have a good relationship with most of these places know me, know me even personally from dropping cars off here they eject these bastards without having me to say a word I just point em out walk over to the pay or speaker booth point em out and they get ejected and told not to come back. In the first case I actually VIDEO of the car the wire harness. It was mistake . I just video the cars so I don't have write down all the details of them on paper. Takes too much time when places only give ya an hour to 45 min to walk around inside video of the car speaking to the camera is much faster than writing the shit all down. In my first case I went to Public Auto Auctions.com here and showed them my video of the car in tact and then how I received it after the auction. The actual owner called me to get a DVD from me and then when it happened again all I had to do was to to the check out booth they handed me the title over BEFORE I paid for their car and ejected the 2 guys or couple bidding on the car. They did that 4 me the second time and lord and behold this month I did not find any sabotaged cars this month.

Here's the thing. Yes, you want to make a good profit for the time you put into these flips. But I suspect that there's something more important going on. When you say, "I think this is going to make a really good daily driver for someone...", I get the impression that this intention, more than just the $$$ you may make, is what you get a kick out of, Randy. That attitude is one of the main reasons I'm a subscriber, brother.

Absolute a great deal. Those are great cars. You're totally under rating it. Those 3800s are great motors and just change the oil and maintenance it'll go 300k miles. Love my Pontiacs. That car with miles and no rust here in Michigan will fetch 3k easy! Just bought a 04 grand prix with 230k for my son and didn't even hesitate to buy it for $500.

@ry-rm5wo4 жыл бұрын
It is a good engine that can last 200k-300k+, with good economy and power, mostly very simple to work on, but not without faults. Many of the 2004-2005 series III have exhaust valve seal issues which result in high oil consumption starting around 100k-150k miles. The series II, and some series III have problems with a failing lower intake manifold gasket, which is fixed by using the updated GM aluminum replacement. Both II and III use plastic coolant elbows from the alternator bracket (really coolant flows through this bracket!) to the engine which crack, and lastly the series II sometimes get warped plastic upper intake manifold plenums. Many series II and Series III start engine fires when the front value cover gasket fails, GM did eventually recall this on most models.

Just an FYI for you sir. Hope this can help you in the future. On some of those gm engines,there is a passage in the intake that goes from the egr valve to the throttle body. That passage gets carbon build up in it and clogs up. Throws a code for egr flow insufficient. Don't replace the egr valve. Just clean out the clog in the intake. Save's you a lot of head ache and aggravation. Lol this happened to me with my buick. Had a 3500 series engine in it.

The MAF sensor measures air flow going into the throttle body and is normally located between the throttle body and the air filter box (in the plastic tube/hose) cleaning it usually resolves the issue. I don't know what that was up by the alternator.
@ratbert864 жыл бұрын
Randy, there are redundant sensors on the accelerator pedal. When they do not read the same (one gets glitchy) the "correlation" error comes up and the reduced power is turned on to force the repair.

Randy you do a great troubleshooting job. That's all you can do, just follow it down logically and see what you can find. It's not worth going crazy, considering the car's value. Good to see you taking a diagnostic approach this time vs loading and shooting the parts cannon. This is a lesson I learned too but with a car I was not intending to sell and had payments on it. Your throttle position problem will be in your TPS sensor(Throttle Position Sensor!) it's in your throttle body! But I'm sure you know that by now! What was the vacuum hose unhooked by the EGR wires that had been cut? Looked like it went to maybe the PVC? On those 2 dash parts They are simple to replace and to do so just slide a Flat screwdriver or a dash panel removal tool under the edge and slide up and down , when you get to a clip just gently pry outwards! I've had mine in and out countless times! Oh I have a Galaxy Silver Mist 2004 GTP! I painted those two dash pieces the same Silver as the car is, is one reason I've had them out so many times. Keep saving these Pontiacs Man!

With as dirty as you found the throttle body you'd have to guess the car hasn't seen recent maintenance. I'd clean the MAF sensor and change the air filter too. Check your fuel trims before and after. You might see an improvement if they were restricting air flow.
@mike305344 жыл бұрын
The reason the dash is broken on your Pontiac GP GT1 WIDE TRACK is that the previous owner was banging his fist there because it had no power to speak of. He checked the owner's manual for help on the reduced power, found nothing, slammed dash pocket door and broke it. From there, raised the hood, noticed the bolts were missing, blew the hood shocks up slamming it... Goober, the free advice mechanic over at the Race Trac Station, says a cheap replacement for a throttle body is to bolt on a single barrel carburetor for a 1961 Chevy 235 ci inline 6 cyl. Goober claims he's done that several times on customer cars. Goober also suggested that the gas pedal problem is bad wiring between the new owner and the pedal itself. He recommended checking the scrap value of that car vs. repairs? You can call Goober for free, but he'll have to ask you to reverse the charges on the payphone at his office...
