How I love that generation of Expedition 😍, she's still got 100-150K to go most likely, solid motors... That taping noise isn't serious, 5.4L 2 and 3V make all kinds of tap, ticking noises. Mines makes that noise at only 186K, it did it since I bought it. That was a score! Edit: Really miss the live bidding to, should bring it back!

I have a blue 03 Expedition Eddie Bauer with the 5.4l and it’s loaded for the year and I absolutely love it no issues in the the last 5 1/2 years that I’ve owned it and it had 137,000 miles when I got it and now has 168,000 and is strong as can be

I was becoming very "hit or miss" on viewing the walk around videos because I never knew what happened to the cars you found. (You stopped doing the weekly update videos some time ago.) Bought my wife a new Expedition 6 months ago. We have a 2004 with the 4.6 . with 400 thousand miles on it. One alternator in it since it was new and every 100 thousand miles I put new coil packs and plugs.. still runs great. I keep in my my big storage building now. Drive it once a month now. Never thought she would ever want a new one. She loved this 2004. Tried getting her to get a new one for ten years. She finally found a new one at dealer that she wanted lol

All 3 cars Randy bid on them are quite decent : Expedition, needs some stitching for the front leather seats and a good clean polish, Honda truck & Buick with some fresh paint would be nice as well or at least fluids+new filters, a bit of work cleaning, washing all are good to run in decent shape.. yup.. Randy got some good deals in there.. ;0)

The ridge line is based off the Honda Pilot platform. If you look close enough when inspecting the vehicle completely your gonna agree if you know Honda's well enough.

That Expedition is a good buy. The little bit of "lifter" noise you heard is pretty normal for these. They all do that when cold. I have a 98 Expedition 4.6L with 213k and it is perfect...makes that same noise when cold. Cold air, absolutely nothing wrong with it. Paint is a bit faded in places but I love it dearly. They will last forever if maintained. Much rather have it than a new one! I am not sure on the generation of Expedition you bought, but in the previous generation they have the 4R70w transmission and torque converter shudder was common. You would swear the transmission was about to fall out from under it, when all that was needed was a trans service. My 98 Expedition was awful when I first got it, but I did a complete trans service and drained the torque converter...shifts awesome now. Maybe you can get lucky too if the mechanical issue is transmission related.

The Expedition has the old style spark plugs. Not the plugs that break off.

I have a 04 expedition eb, its the year right before they switched to the updated 3 valve 5.4L, mine has 240k still runs like new everything works even the cooled/heated seats

my mom had one of the previous body style expeditions that was a state vehicle, hers she sold at 530k miles after putting over 200k on it herself. only major issues she had was a rear end rebuild with axles and fluids. and that thing is still going a dozen owners later sitting over 600k. those things are surprisingly reliable.

The mechanical damage on that Expedition is the fact that it has a 5.4 3-valve in it. Those things are utter trash and a good $8k-10k when you need to replace the engine. I heard the ticking shortly after you started it so it's probably just started. Depending on the history of the vehicle and maintenance you may still get a good 10-20k miles out of it before it starts misfiring. Good luck!

If the Expedition is a 3 valve 5.4, that clatter is probably cam phasers. Expensive, causes intermittent non-start issues, eventually won't run at all.

Randy, I love this new style and content. It is very satisfying to watch you bid on something you like and then win it. When you were going through that Expedition, I was thinking "Dang, I want that...I'd pay $3-$4k for it but oh well". Your old format would just leave us all guessing but when you whipped out your phone and I saw the buy-it-now, I immediately felt the need to push the "bid" button and that's exactly what you did. To me, that was SO satisfying because it comes full circle without the wait. And now comes the bonus content in the form of future videos where I get to see you take possession and find out if you really scored or not. Even if you didn't and lets say the transmission was a complete failure, you still won because the anticipation of the content will keep us all coming back for more. Awsome. People always talking shit about 5.4. I had a F150 supercrew 5.4 every body said it was junk would burn valves at 150k it had 298k when it was totaled still ran great. My friend took the engine out and used it in a another f150 he put another 25k on it then sold the truck running a driving fine

That Expedition was a score!. And the 5.4 is solid on those as well. 2004 was the last year the Expedition got the 2V version which has no VCT hence no cam phasers nor solenoids to worry about.

@@tmoz1228 3V was officially made the upgrade engine for 2005MY. You may have seen an early 2005 Expedition with the 3V engine with a build date of mid/late 2004 but the VIN will say it's a 2005.

Only thing about the Expedition or any Ford with the 5.4Triton is you have to lift the body off the frame just to change thespark plugs, and you better hope you have the right tools and soak the threads hours before, the spark plugs are about 6 inches long and will break off in the heads of your aren't careful!

I stopped watching TK for awhile bc he'd do a walk around for half the video and the other half.... he'd show that days live auction (most of the time it wasn't even the city that he did the walk around in) and he'd show what the cars were going for... he rarely bid... and every video bitched about how people were over paying!! Those videos got old and stale real quick!! I still watch his walk arounds every once in awhile. I definitely like your new format

Hey Randy I bought a Ridgeline for 3200 from IAA that had front damage. If you get it for 3500 I'd call it a great deal! Check your AC compressor clutch relay that might be the problem.

Expedition is pretty nice for its age. Had one in 1998 with same 5.4 Triton V8, no problems. Gas mileage poor, 12-16 mpg, but runs on 87 octane. Will not win any drag races but will tow anything. Send to the Auto-Spa.
