Alex Grichuhin RRT-RCP, dives into the world of pulse oximeters, unraveling the truth about their functionality and shedding light on their limitations. Join us as we explore the purpose of pulse oximeters and their actual role in tracking health metrics.
With clear explanations and expert insights, we clarify that pulse oximeters are primarily designed to measure heart rate and oxygen saturation levels in the blood. Contrary to common misconceptions, these devices provide a reliable pulse reading but do not provide a direct measurement of oxygen levels.
Through detailed demonstrations, we guide you on the correct usage of pulse oximeters and help you interpret the data they provide. Discover the significance of understanding the distinction between heart rate and oxygen saturation, empowering you to make informed decisions about your health.
Join us in this video as we uncover the truth about pulse oximeters, equipping you with the knowledge to use them effectively as a tool to monitor heart rate and gain a basic understanding of oxygen saturation trends. Stay informed, and stay empowered!

I learned when I was in the hospital the most accurate reading is on the ear lobe. Reading on finger was 92. When they put it on my ear lobe it was 96.

An Emma is about £1500 here. For the number of times I'll ever happen to chance across someone needing CPR, have a BVM in my pocket or bag and have someone else or two around to help with squeezing the bag and compressions, it's not worth it. I only use a PO to assess casualy pulse rate, unless the SpO2 is very low. The day I bought a spare thinking I'd never use it on anyone I found a ladysprawled out on the kerb. Susp PE, chest pain, hx of cardiac problems but refused to go to hospital.
