Why does floating seal have to balance out the fixed scroll ? What does it exactly do ?

It really job is to protect the compressor from running into a vacuum

@@RefrigerationMentor can it become loose and make knocking noises? We have had few compressors that were running at zero psis and after the leak repair and recharged we started hearing some kinda knocking noise but compressors haven’t failed so I assume the bearings are fine

@@Guyhakverdi do a performance test on the compressor through the compressor app or software and see if it’s running within specifications.

What about these newer horizontal scroll compressors
@RefrigerationMentor3 жыл бұрын
ZBH & ZRH horizontal compressor have no internal scroll temperature protection. As a result, an external discharge line sensor is required for all refrigeration and heat pump applications to provide loss of charge protection. Well a contractor was about to change an evaporator out for the 3rd. Time before Mr. Harold Nelson figured out that the line set attached to the ceiling rafters was the issue, as R410a was flashing before it got to the metering device.

Once both lines were insulated enough & lower the attachment to the ceiling rafters, problem went away.

when you had a chance to look inside those compressors, that’s when you really understand the true cause of failure.
