I love this series because it shows such a realistic process of designing an apartment. Many interior videos just do it all at once. But you show that it takes time.

@hintex487 “creating home”, yes totally ❤ such a good distinction from simply decorating or renovating which I think many designers and influencers miss the mark. Daniel does a beautiful job of bringing together thoughtful design and creating home in an approachable, realistic, and maybe more patient way.

I had to stop midway to write this comment. I not only love the way you put things together but also LOVE the way you explain exactly why you are doing something. For example you explained why you would put the deeper shelf on top and not at the bottom. This just shows clarity and depth in your thinking, and explaination skills. Big fan. ❤

I think what’s amazing about your space is how well it reflects your personality. From what you present on your channel, your voice and demeanor perfectly align with the atmosphere of your space. I also noticed how well you communicate your design decisions. As I watched, I found myself agreeing with your choices, but the way you articulate why something works (or doesn’t) is a talent in itself. You have an eye for form and function, and your thoughtfulness about how others will experience your space is something I wouldn’t have considered. I love exactly how it looks now and wouldn’t change much, but I’m excited to see what you do next!

I’ve recently started watching interior design videos on KZbin, because we moved to a new house and I felt like I needed to learn something about why certain things work. I stumbled upon one of your videos (I think the one on lighting) and soon after I had binge watched all of your videos. There’s something about the way that you put theory or explanations behind everything that’s just so unique. I know now that it’s unique, because I later went on to watch a lot of other interior design youtubers and they don’t come close. Your style is certainly interesting as well. Very low tech, down to earth and “real”. The coffee and that we get to see you sit down is kind of brilliant. And this is probably just how it came to be and who you are. But funnily enough, in a recent video by 20M-follower-KZbinr MKBHD, he says that people want less “produced” content nowadays and that he’s going to do more content with simple cameras and out of his studio. And this is exactly what you’re doing; maybe by accident you are striking this perfect balance and giving us this “realness” that just makes your videos that much more interesting (combined with how good you are at this and how well you articulate the why). PS: I think this is my second comment ever on KZbin after joining 20 years ago and having watched thousands of hours of content.

One detail about the chair and how it's positioned is that the leather straps add a swoop that aligns with the edges of the coffee table and the color of the leather ties it in perfectly, too. It's a subtle dynamic movement in the space.

The way you layered those shelves is so subtle, but placing the deeper one on top does make that desk area feel more enclosed and cozy. Accessible and replicable on a budget. Also huge shout out to that silvery sphere punctuating the end of the bookcase. Iconic.

Ahh I love this video series! I had a thought about the "built in" desk... I think it would look even more cohesive and built in if you added plywood sheets to the sides of the dressers, so that the gap behind them isn't visible anymore and the leg area underneath the desk is kind of "boxed in"? Would feel even less floating then, I think. Sending love

Before you paint the side table(good color choice!) maybe wipe it down with acetone in case it has been waxed (like pledge, etc) to remove wax which might be a problem with laying paint on top of. Sand the wood afterwards with a 220 grit and wipe with a tack cloth before painting. Nice video, enjoying the developments re yr apt😊

Love that you kept the ficus plant. It softens the space with the round leaf shapes. For the cuttings, cutting off all of the leaves except the top 5 or so will help it focus its energy to grow roots. Its likely in the climate you are in being winter, the cuttings have too many leaves to be supporting without yet any new roots. Your space is amazing.

watching you go through your living room chair journey is actually such a good example of how to use shape, texture, color, and material to create a space. once you're satisfied with your set up, i'd love to see a deep-dive video of you reviewing how each of the chairs changed/impacted the space and what you did and didn't like for each of them, the stuff that contributed to your ultimate decision. all three are sooo different but don't feel out of place or random for what you've shared about your personal design identity. i think that's really fascinating and would love to hear your thoughts on it in more depth.

omg stumbled on your videos while brainstorming a lighting solution for my bedroom and I love the thoughtful content you make that feels like much more authentic design that requires greater presence in the space you occupy -- honoring the character of your home, the culture and style of your city, and seeing value in the objects you use (not masking them as something else and appreciating objects that were crafted for longevity). I honestly hadn't thought of my design values much before this or thought about how they relate to my values in the rest of life, so this was very clarifying, especially because our values are I think quite similar. I'm often a blunt person, and I find honestly much more comfortable, and I think a design philosophy of prioritizing function and respecting the materials used creates a more honest and thus more comfortable home. it's not a stage, it's the place you live, and it's so much better to embrace that necessary functionality. i'm also excited to see your lampshade journey for the one that tragically broke, because i have a beautiful antique lamp that i've been stumped to find a shade for (mostly because modern shades don't fit it).

just an tip, if you plan on adding more weight to the desk (like another computer or something) over time you might see the bottom piece of plywood start to warp or look weak. now i doubt it because it looks super minimal but another idea could've been to have a truss like element underneath the plywood with like a 2x4 and that also empathize the horizontal language. sorry if that was so unhelpful but i really do love your space and all your videos noah ❤

Is it possible to paint a swatch on the side table to see how it dries? Maybe underneath? Suggesting that because of a terrible experience I had putting regular wall paint on a wood desk. Even after sanding and priming, the paint never dried down nicely and the desk was always sticky. Picking up heavy objects off the desk, like my laptop, would make this awful unsticking sound. I would use chalk paint or something made for furniture if I ever did a project like that again (but those don't come in as many color options, I know!)

A couch against a wall makes the space feel smaller, counterintuitively. Giving furniture space to breath pulls focus away from the hard boundaries of the room. Sitting in the center mass of a room also feels more social, which he seems to want. Negative space has just as much value as filled space in a home.

Can I ask an advice question? Is it ok to use task table lamps for ambient lighting? I sometimes find pretty task lamps but don’t have an “task need” for them but am thinking of putting one on a side table for ambient lighting anyway? Is that weird?
@dearvernonАй бұрын
I’m not Noah or a professional so take this with a grain of salt lol But I would definitely use a task table lamp for ambiance! I personally think they work as cool and interesting pieces of lighting (even if just “for the vibes”) so no, I don’t think it’s weird at all if that makes you feel any better :) They’re quite good for that since you can turn most of them to point against the wall for example, and have the light project that way (if we’re thinking of the same kind of table lamp). You can almost treat it as an art piece with the light shape on the wall (depending on the lamp and place I guess). Again: with a grain of salt! :)
@antonzavarzin7208Ай бұрын
Table lamps is just a form of a construction. The light from the lamp will bounce from the surface of your table / wall and will produce some level of ambient in the room. It just depends on the level of that ambient light. If you like low key ambient light like in latest batman or any other dark movies - it will work

I feel so guilty sometimes when I don't get a paint color right on my first try or I buy a piece of furniture I thought would be perfect and it just bugs me and I have to keep searching for something that will click or get it re-finished/re-upholstered and boom it suddenly becomes 3x more expensive and time consuming. But this series make me feel better bc you are an actual architect and you have so much knowledge yet these videos show how things take time and a lot of trial and error. So thank you for sharing your process! Otherwise I hate to say this but I'm afraid those plants are not getting enough light where they are. We need to talk about how plants never thrive in the spot we need them to be for decor purposes.

Interior design is my hobby for the last 20 years. I like the aesthetics of a leaning mirror, but it leads to distortion, if you're using it for your primary full length to check yourself out then I would mount it. Regarding fabrics, I think you're just into thread dyed or textiles where the pattern is woven instead of printed as you mentioned, which relates to your preference of more authentic materials. I'd love some thread dyed bed linens but can't justify the price currently.

You made me laugh with your armchair saga :-) one day, you will exhibit all your armchairs collection and maybe lampshades creations? I have one question: in your dining room/office, are the wood and chests sealed with something? If not, the would is going to become a little dirty where your arms touch it while you are working on your computers, on the drawers too. I’m not saying that YOU are dirty, it’s just a happening fact, I experienced it myself. I would recommend a satin clear varnish or at least some wax to protect the wood. It doesn’t need to be everywhere, it’s actually better to keep a small area (behind or underneath) not sealed so the wood can breathe. Just a suggestion from someone who has worked with a lot of wood and a lot of paints, varnishes, waxes.

just FYI on Muji, they use cotton from Xinjiang, which is known as a place where forced Uyghur labor (slavery) is used to pick it. When called on it, Muji not only refused to change their supply chain but actually promoted that their cotton was from western China, to help their market share in China. I don't think it's so morally objectionable to buy **non-cotton** items from there, like your file folders, but I personally have chosen a total boycott of Muji products because I just can't condone a company knowingly benefiting from slave labor. I'm sure I patronize companies that also use slave labor, but if I become aware of it I try to stop.
